Depends on how big my shopping cart is. If it's full, I'll go to a person so we can bag more quickly. If it's like, 6 items, I'll use the self checkout.

I use them if I only have a few items/small items or if they're particularly busy and the lanes are more open.

I always use the self service because I love grocery shopping while doing my own thing, listening to music or podcasts or whatever. I spent my entire busy-ass day between colleagues, meetings and patients and if I can choose to do my shopping without forced pleasantries, I will. It's one of life's small pleasures.

honestly yes, but it depends on how many goods I have.

If its just a few things / less than a bag full then yeh. If its a lot of stuff then I'll go to the counter and they scan while I pack for efficiency.

I try not to unless there are incredibly long lines at the staffed check-outs. I don't want to give the stores an excuse to cut more cashier positions.

Almost exclusively. Only times I use regular checkout lines are when I'm buying an item with an attached security tag. I even stopped going to the closer grocery store because they took the self checkout system away, but didn't hire any more cashiers to replace it with, meaning I'd be standing in line for 15+ minutes to buy my 3 items.

Not ever. I shop for a family of 5 so having to look up and/or enter the PLU codes of various fruits and veggies takes way too long.

If I do that, I'd expect them to discount my groceries.

Also, Fairway doesn't have self checkout and that's where I shop most frequently.

I always use them if I have a hand basket and can put everything into 1 or 2 bags. After that I just go to a register so I don't hold anyone else up.

Yes yes yes. Whenever possible. It's much quicker for me than queuing for a person, since many people still seem more comfortable to go there. And for big groceries there is always Amazon Prime!

Here the battle is already lost - usually only 1-2 staff checkouts, and so they get lineups. So you inevitably use self-checkout instead unless you have a big grocery cart of things. Though, I've been to a few self-checkout only places and those end up having basically the same amount of staff to deal with the checkout process?
