Many fond memories of the early games. I wasn't into the shift that 4 made, but its influence was massive. Have to respect the legacy.

Have long wished that 3 would eventually get a PC port, clear as day now it's never going to happen. What I wouldn't give to be able to revisit its multiplayer though. That and United Offensive are the series highlights for me.

Not even joking, your entire post mirrors my feelings perfectly 1-to-1.

Love the COD series.

Played the hell out of COD1 on PC then COD4 was a total game changer for consoles. Series has been up and down since but there's been more good than not. Even at their worst, I always find COD to be a high quality experience every year and I genuinely don't think there's a bad one (disclaimer: only one I've not played is Ghosts).

This is one of the rare anniversaries that seems surprisingly small. CoD still has never topped CoD2 in my book - partially because the PC community for CoD games died after Modern Warfare.

I played MW2 so damn much on my 360. Even though I haven't liked each of entry as much as MW and MW2, they have all been enjoyable.

The 1 aspect I hate about the series current games is how little they care about announcers and themes in everything after MW3/BO2.
Generic announcers with little thought put in to Spawn, Defeat and Victory themes.

Truth has been spoken. After 2 they really got lost with dumb corporate decisions like 3 being console exclusive and now they don't even have a singleplayer campaign. Not to mention how the multiplayer is now about abilities and stuff...total loss of identity.
I remember my friend winning an Xbox 360 arcade at a local CoD 2 tournament, since then nothing even remotely similar event involving cod.
Oh well, at least these oldies are forever out there for me to replay every now and then.

I enjoy the COD games but it's a shame to see the campaign go with the newest one.

I'm enjoying Blackout though, and I like the higher TTK.

The original Call of Duty and its expansion will probably always be my favorite Hollywood-style military shooters. So many tense sequences and memorable missions. Whatever highs and lows the series has had since then, that first game is untouchable.

Black Ops 1 will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish I could go back. I can't believe its been 8 years.

Halo was more influential than COD.

Eh.

I love Halo but the biggest thing (which is a big deal) is that it made Console shooters viable. Which obviously still a big thing today. But there is many gameplay mechanics who origins can be traced back to Modern Warfare even by non-CoD games today.

Black Ops 1 was my favorite but honestly Black Ops 4 is very very high up there for me also. Haven't really been this addicted to a CoD game in a long time and I'm enjoying all aspects of the game currently, mostly Multiplayer, I can really see me playing this as much as I did before.

Didnt really think it would happen for me again but it did.

Solid series, congrats to the various studios that have us all COD games these past 15 years!

From the main series, I've only disliked COD3 and Ghosts. The rest have been good to great imo. I personally also throw in a mention to Black Ops as my personal favorite game in the entire series, and I've enjoyed every game in the Blops subseries so far.

Black Ops 1 is the best and still the pinnacle of the series overall, every single multiplayer map was awesome. Even the DLC ones.

Nuketown, Summit, Firing Range, Stadium, probably others I'm forgetting. It's been awhile.

I started playing them when my brother got me into MW2 and I've played every one since (including going back and playing the previous ones too).

Treyarch are the only ones I actually get hyped about though. <3

Also I don't care about the single player at all, I've played several of them just out of curiosity and they're so damn boring. So suffice to say Blops 4 being multiplayer only doesn't bother me at all. :) On the other hand the rumored MW2 without multi is lolwhyevenbother to me.

Blops 1 > Blops 2 > Blops 4 (probably, still too new) > MW2 > Blops 3 > AW > WW2 > IW >>>> MW3 >>>>>> lolGhosts

The campaign was the best imho from the nuCODs (MW2 and onwards).
But CoD 2 had Burgundy, Carentan, Toujane, Matmata and Railroads.
Oh, and no dlc.

Halo was more influential than COD.

It definitely wasn't. CoD has major influences over non-shooter franchises. Even looking at just other shooters, CoD 4 set the standard for loadouts and unlocks acquired through levelling up, which even Halo copied to an extent in Reach.

COD 4 for me
Overgrown
Crash
Pipeline
Ambush
Backlot
Bloc
Broadcast
Countdown
Crossfire
District
Downpour
Strike
Vacant
Wetwork

Shipment and Bog were the only maps that weren't perfection.

I came from hardcore counterstrike on pc. I did not think online shooters on console would work untill i played the BETA of COD 4 modern warfare.
Damn that game was good. Got to play with people from my hometown via Xboxlive and it was so much fun evening after evening in the parychat.
That lasted until Black ops 1 and then people lost interest or got reponsibilities with kids etc.

COD is still some kind of guilty pleasure for me. I still love the constant action. It is great for blowing off steam after a long day of work.

COD4 still remains my favorite and I play it once in a while via BC on xbox.

United Offensive was brilliant and low-key the best COD.

It's MP laid the foundation for MW, introduced domination, first iteration of scorestreaks with the rank system the allowed you to call in Artillary strikes when you hit Sergeant.

And the SP was paced to perfection. The Flying Fortress section was one of the best turret sections. The attack on Foy fantastically lifted from Band of Brothers. The whole Battle of the Buldge section was great.

And then the cherry on top the Battle of Kursk.

Damn the expansion pack was great. One of the finest ever in my opinion. Hats of to the developers of Gray Matter at the time because in my opinion they really expanded on the foundation that IW laid and paced to road to MW with their vision.

COD 1 was my MP shit back in the day, been playing ever since. It was awesome having seen Band of Brothers and kinda recognizing places and stories too.

Some of the games piss me off sometimes but I always enjoy them. I hardly played AW or BO3 but the rest of the mainline games I have been there.

I didn't really like BO1 when it came out, it took me a lot of time to warm up to it. I remember the PS3 version was absolutely garbage around launch so that will be part of it. Not long after I switched to X360 and that was that. The map packs were great. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it's definitely the one I look back on the fondest.

The series really has given me a lot of fun times with my friends so I'm beyond thankful for that.

I've had a great time playing COD over the years. I think I've bought almost all of them, but did rent a few instead when it was really struggling early in this generation. The multiplayer is still a blast to play. Something about that fast action and quick respawn that just works. You can just go in gun blazing and get the kill or be right back in the action a second later if you die.

I think COD4 through MW3 were the high point of the series for me. Most of those had what I want from a COD, which is a great campaign, fun multiplayer, and some kind of co-op mode like spec ops. Zombies unfortunately is something I've never been a fan of, it just never felt fun to me. I hate that it's been shoved into every COD now and wish it would spin off to its own thing. Black Out is fine, I'm not a big Battle Royale player, but I've played a few matches and it's a pretty good version of it. Multiplayer has always been the main draw, and I'm enjoying BOPS4 multiplayer, but I'm disappointed in the direction COD is moving to with the other content in the game, especially the lack of campaign.

COD1 is still the best IMO. For me the franchise lost something when moving to health regen (you can argue the about the whole genre TBH).

I know they had their reasons to make it "flow" better, be more flashy by throwing more enemies at you etc., but it never got as tense as some missions in the first game on veteran.

Also, I need to finally play United Offensive. Never was one to play expansions with a few exceptions, so I missed out on it.

While not cutting edge, the polish and range of animations in those first couple of CoDs was so far ahead of the pack at the time.

Then later MW1/2 evolved and perfected (for the time) multiplayer content. I have such great memories of this era.

After a lot of years off I jumped back in with the new Black Ops - meh.

Yeah, i agree. Was my first COD multiplayer experience, it was something. Nearly all the maps were fun to play, all DLC maps were great too. Its one of the reason i might give a chsnce to Blops 4 knowing they got 4 maps of BO1 in and 1 from BO2 , which was good too,

Somewhere
Black Ops 4 is a spectacular return to form in Multiplayer and Blackout is a great BR.

Glad to have good COD back. Here's hoping Treyarch keep the ball moving.
