IV is not harder than Rondo.
I beat Rondo. I didn't get past the fifth stage I think in IV.

Rondo is also the first Castlevania I played. The order I played them in is Rondo, back when it released. Then SotN on PS. Then III, never beat that one. Then IV, same. Then much later I on Wii VC. I is the only other Classicvania I came close to clearing.

I'm surprised they never released Rondo back then on the TurboGrafx-16 outside of the Japan, that system could've used all the help it could get. It required an add-on right, was it not available anywhere else in the world?

Well yeah, stuff like this is subjective, but IV is widely considered the easiest classic Castlevania pretty much.

Rondo isn't /that/ hard either tho, I find CV1 and 3 much more challenging.

If you owned a Duo-Engine, you could just import (CD games were region free). I don't think NEC or Konami were interested in pushing the console outside Japan at that point. It was mostly relevant in Japan for its CD drive and the content that enabled.

I wish I enjoyed the pre-SOTN Castlevanias but I just can't deal with how slow the walking speed and jumping feels.
Playing as Richter in SOTN and then playing as him here is just such a wide difference.

Maybe it's time I gave it another shot.

Yeah, Rondo isn't that hard relative to the others but IV's multi-directional whip makes it a cakewalk up until like the clock tower. In fact, I'd say that part of the difficulty in IV is wrestling with the awful swinging mechanics.

Rondo definitely feels the fastest of the classic ones. Not only is walk speed faster, the ease of jumping off/on stairs makes it a lot faster paced too.

Maria in Rondo is faster than Alucard in SotN. She has like two moves for fast traversal, cartwheels and sliding crouch.

My favorite Rondo song is Ghost Ship Painting. I only noticed much later that it bears some similarity to Laid So Low by Tears For Fears.

It got re-released on Wii and PSP before the PS4 collection. That's a pretty huge install base to put the game on.
I mean, sure, but it's not like it saw a wide release in brick and mortar stores. It's limited to specific platforms and services; not really had the exposure a title of that quality deserves.

Great game. Its SNES cousin is also pretty good but really hard. It's much better than the reputation it has.

Guys, been around for awhile and have beaten a handful of Castlevania games (1 and 2 on Gameboy were my first).

Just got around to playing this with the newly released Requiem collection and I am over the moon. What a brilliant game and this collection will likely make my personal top 10 for the year just off Rondo alone (I've beaten SotN many times over).

Currently at stage 5 now. Tried making my way through some of the alternative routes but got my ass handed to me.

Love it
