The Subspace Emissary's cutscenes totaled ~50 minutes. If they chose to do something similar this time (and I really doubt it) they'd probably need to add like ~20-30 more minutes at the very least since we're gonna have double the playable characters in this. Plus the CG will have to be in HD.

So what are the chances they decided it's worth paying for 1-1.5 hours of high quality HD cutscenes this time?
Fan demand could increase the chances. Look at Ridley, for example.

The sad part is this is all about conditioning the community to accept a small stage list as soon as possible. This will easily be the first thing in Ultimate that will upset me.

Edit: dp

I totally agree. I'm glad I don't play that way nor do I have any friends that force the group to .

Agreed. Even if the Grinch leak didn't exist, Kencineroar would still be a anti-climactic and disappointing ending. People like to bring up how Brawl and Smash 4 didn't have super hype newcomer reveals, but introducing a new series to Smash (Pikmin and Xenoblade) is infinitely better than ending on ANOTHER Pokemon newcomer (and I would still say this, even if it was Decidueye in Incineroar's place).
Those rosters were also not officially revealed in full before release. Sakurai is definitely building up hype by intentionally showcasing every character.

Guys, the game itself is beautiful, they don't even need CG cutscenes. It can easily be in-engine and be on par with brawl's cutscenes.

They should just release Spirits modes cutscenes in theatres as an epic silent movie trilogy.

Eeeehhhhh, the game looks good & all, but I'm not sure if the in-game models are good enough to be used in cutscenes. You can easily see the edges in the models if you zoom in close.

My favorite event match was always Melee's Event Match 37: Legendary Pokemon. That was the only event I played over and over again to the point I still remember the number after all these years. Wish we had more cool events like that. Brawl's event matches definitely did not scratch that itch for me.
is that the one with the legendary-only pokeball match? fucking loved that

They're definitely one of the best parts, even if the later challenges can get mean. I've always liked the ones that kinda put a twist on mechanics, IIRC in Brawl there was one with the Pokémon Trainer where you had a full party, including Pikachu or something? Unless I'm just imagining that
Imagine what you can do now with pokemon trainer.

Mew2King and Zero uploaded the rest of their stage viability predictions. It went as expected:

That's a lot of legal stages

Thinking that Isaac's trailer was delayed is low-key kind of sociopathic and also demonstrably false.

Like, they announced Animal Crossing right after Isabelle and that directly references Smash and her trailer, do you think they made that trailer in a week?

I don't believe that Isaac was planned to be announced at the Direct, but calling people who suggested that "sociopathic" is ridiculous. And insulting.

To this day there are Pokémon episodes that have never been released because they were delayed because of an earthquake, then never aired.

Before the direct, there were insiders talking about how "we would understand" why the Direct had to be delayed once it aired, implying that it had sensitive subject matter.

It's a thing that happens.

When we have so many potential options, of course the Smash community would become less forgiving of minor stuff.

The competitive community makes me so sad. The game can't even come out before they're figuring out how to reduce it to as few moving parts as possible.

On the other hand, when we don't have any idea of the form the meta is taking outside of a now months outdated E3 demo with only a tiny fraction of the content, it's a little concerning to see a couple of the loudest voices talking about how small a pool of stages there is without any sort of suspect testing.

Obviously they aren't going to speak for the whole community, but I'd be worried about this kind of thing painting perceptions.

Who do you guys check for reaction vids about Smash (if you even watch those) ?
Personally my fav ones are always Etika for the hyperbolic reaction, Maximilian Dood and D1x.

Yea? Why wouldn't they. Having 3 different Battlefields means characters that are good on Battlefield will have less of a chance of their stage being banned.
I guess I assumed for variety but that's whack as hell if stages are banned by pros because of that.

Would you rather have people die to bullshit

Oh, no. I'm not saying I don't get the internal logic with regards to fairness, etc. They aren't sad for making the cuts; it makes me sad because there's a lot of great content that, a month and a half before release, is already being jettisoned away. And the truth is what the tournament community declares fair and unfair trickles down to the more casual parts of the community, even if it's as simple as "I wanna watch some good Smash battles," logging onto YouTube and seeing Smashville 9 out of 10 times.

Whether the leak and up being fake or not, one thing is sure, we probably are seeing of the ugliest side of the Smash fandom right now.

Seriously, some people are taking this way too seriously...

The all-stars have all gotten in now, the only characters left are either from new series that would need to be DLC or are characters that have developed super-fanatic following that have been waiting forever to get their character in like Ridley and KRool, of course this was going to be a bad session.

I think the biggest hint towards a potential Story Mode with cutscenes is the fact that all of the characters have a high quality 3D model this time. For Smash 4, a lot of character renders just used touched-up in-game models (most notable with Dr. Mario).

The fact that they have models made that can be used for story mode cutscenes is a good sign.
