I assume they did as it was a full priced game that sold well and they are a tiny team. They've earned a lot of goodwill with these updates too so even though there was a sharp decline in sales after launch I bet they've done well in sales and stuff since then.Cool that it's free. They really must have made bank on that initial game release if they have the money to not charge for content updates like this lol
Yes as I quoted you.
Maybe don't jump to conclusions and I won't either :).
You only need the base game. All the updates have been freeI'm interested in getting this soon, do I only need to get the base game that's been available for a while? Or are there paid expansions and more stuff? I held off on buying this because of the inicial reception, but I've seen the turnaround and I really want to try it now.
Exactly what I wanted to read :D Gonna try and hunt a physical copy.
Even before launch Sean was saying that players could ignore the journey to the centre of the galaxy and stay put if they wanted, using trading between local star systems for profit as an example. Base building might be antithetical to the journey to the centre of the galaxy - though base building is also possible on your freighter too, so you can technically still do both to a degree - but it is congruous with the game's survival/sandbox nature. It's a feature a lot of people wanted in the game prior to launch as well. Can someone please explain: isn't base building antithetical to the game's underlying premise of moving from planet to planet and never going back?
Don't get me started on this shit lol.Can someone please explain: isn't base building antithetical to the game's underlying premise of moving from planet to planet and never going back?

That's positive if they're fixing the performance. I got the game after NEXT but was so unimpressed by the horrifically uneven stuttering and frame dropping that I refunded. Granted, my rig isn't going to play the game with all the bells and whistles but I couldn't deal with how choppy the game was. If that's out of the way I might buy the game again. Finally, they did something with the oceans! I'm apprehensive of any big update to this game though, given it's up-and-down history with performance issues (on PC). NEXT dropped the framerate on planets to a low I've not seen since the awful launch state of the game and it's only in the last couple of experimental updates that I've seen an improvement, albeit a significant one, bumping performance back to more or less where it was prior to NEXT.
YES. I really really hope the game will be on sale soon, it's suddenly interesting for me.Looks so much like Subnautica (which is a good thing as that game in brilliant). Interested to see the types of predators people get.
Hah, ever since Subnautica, I'm the opposite! Can't get enough
I think there's always going to be some stutter and frame drops in there, especially when entering planet atmospheres. My main concern is overall performance, because moving around a planet at below 30 fps (below 20 fps in extreme cases!) wasn't a pleasant experience. The patch notes for the second to last experimental update prior to Abyss mentioned optimisations to certain biomes and I assume it's that which gave the game a big boost in performance (for me). That's positive if they're fixing the performance.
