CASTLEVANIA-AKUMAJO-DRACULA-X-PC-Engine-SCD-CD-ROM.jpg

My favorite Castlevania. The definitive classic Castlevania game. I remember pouring over import previews of the game back in the 90s in EGM and not actually playing it until early 2002-- when I got the game for 5000Yen with a Japanese PC-Engine while in Japan.

Who else is super fond of the Adventures of Vampire Hunter Ryu?

Dracula X is available for your vampire hunting pleasure on the newly released Castlevania: Requiem on PS4. The port is okay, the OST looping issue is just as stupid on it as it was on the PSP version, but-- hey, playable Dracula X!

Fantastic game. Fantastic soundtrack. The two best Belmonts are in Smash. I'm so hyped.

My last purchase on the Wii Virtual Console, absolutely terrific game and I hope they'll bring it back again. It's so good!

I just played through it again on the PS4 release. Still holds up as one of the best Castlevanias.

Richter has come so far... See you in Smash!

Never played the original Rondo of blood (ClassicVanias are not my cup of tea), but goddamn is the soundtrack amazing.
His cameo in Portrait of ruin was pretty cool.

Feels like Resetera is just a series of polls and birthdays these days.

Fortunately, this one is worth celebrating.

I was playing this over the weekend, after seeing all the coverage for that Castlevania two-pack on the PS4. Besides the amazing soundtrack and nice visual upgrade, it's one of the best entries in the series, because the moderate difficulty makes it easy to just get into the game and play.

Phenomenal game. The only thing that disappointed me was having to wait years to play it. I couldn't find it locally in the pre-widespread internet age.

I think Gerstman has a good comment on the latest Bombcast when he said something like Rondo had a mythical quality to gamers of that era.

He's absolutely right. I used to stare at pics in magazines back in the day and read about Rondo and it was like some mysterious holy relic I could only ever dream about. I was never going to see a TG-16, much less a Super CD.

It wasn't until like 2017 when I realized that it was on the eShop and I bought it immediately. It was like I was seeing something I wasn't supposed to be seeing, and it was everything I had hoped it would be.

So strangely unique in the series, given when it came out. So almost alien. What an amazing game. I still feel strangely honored to be able to play it lol.

I just finished a 100% run of it on the PS4 version and goddamn, the soundtrack is as good as i remember.

The best Classicvania by far (if you endure the difficulty).

Good to know, thanks. Someone in the CV Requiem thread wrote it is not available anymore.

It's there but difficult to buy as you cannot add Wii Points to the Wii anymore. So if you want to buy it you must have existing "spare" Wii Points already on your Wii to be able to make the purchase. So you need 900 Wii Points already on your Wii to buy it.

Oh I see, Nintendo making it real difficult to get old games from the Wii VC.

So many Castlevania threads these days, I love it. I've played the game through many times now, but its difficulty is a bit overstated I feel. I actually consider it on of the easier (or best balanced) games in the series. It's probably the best of the Classicvania's and definitely a top 10 of all time game for me, the love and attention this game got is palpable when playing.

25 years of perfection!
K1gXfwD.jpg

It really bums me out that Konami went for the easiest solution instead of coming up with an actual collection available on all platforms, but oh well, game is still available in some form on a modern platform and our man is gonna be in Smash which is certainly more than I ever hoped for.

More people than ever are giving this masterpiece a try and I'm happy for it. I'm replaying it yet again myself and loving every moment, the movement, the alternate paths and production values are so great, it's a real shame we never got another Castlevania like this.
It sucks cuz the Wii VC one is marginally better because the screwed up looping really pisses me off that much.
Huh, was it any different? I don't remember much from the OG version, but I thought the looping thing was commonplace for games with red book soundtracks from that era.

I discovered it back on the Wii and was blown away.
Definitely one of the best 2d action games of all time. I can also agree with it being considered the best Castlevania game ever, even though the rpg fan in me will always slightly prefer Symphony. But Rondo is a much more "perfect" package than Symphony for sure.

Plus I love those PC Engine cutscenes, they look so cool even today. And the soundtrack is great for when I go running or hiking. That shit will get you pumped like nothing else.

I sort of remember it looping without as much of a gap or restarting from the very beginning-- it's been years since I've played it on OG hardware as my Turbo needs recapped lol.

Yeah, the Wii Shop is going down and that sucks. So many games that will be hard to get after that. And even now you can't add new points any more. At least there is Castlevania Requiem for Rondo, but for a lot of games (like Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth) there's nothing to replace the Wii Shop.

That really sucks. I hope Konami will release CV Adventure Rebirth on other platforms. Would be a shame when it would be lost forever.

Hah I totally relate to this. There are still quite a few games from the 90s and 00s that I was always really curious about but never tried. Every so often when I'm in a retro mood I track one down, and I always feel like a kid in a candy store.

Hell, I just beat Rocco and I'm thinking of buying it on ps4 just in the hopes that I'll have permanent easy access to it assuming we get BC next gen.

It's one of the easiest Classicvanias though. The first one on NES starts out easier but gets really hard after stage 14. Dracula is insanely difficult in that one. III and IV are harder than Rondo from the beginning.
