Who do you...

A) Prefer to play as first in the original?

B) Prefer aesthetically?

C) Prefer as a character (personality)?

D) Plan on playing as first in the remake?

Me, personally?

A) Claire A, Leon B. Why? It's canon, and I'm a sucker for canon.

B) Uh... uhhhhh. This is hard. Leon, I guess - he's one of my favorite character designs in video games, period, and his design is more consistently good across different games. His RE2 design isn't my favorite version of him (that honor goes to RE4) but it is his original look, and its blue contrasts with Claire's red very nicely in this particular game. I also love his hair. If I could pull it off in real life, I totally would. But few people can...

C) Leon is wildly inconsistent across games, but it does show that his experiences change him. He starts off as a boy scout, always wanting to help others and coming across as naive and inexperienced, but well meaning. In his return appearance in RE4, he's a wise cracking, super confident badass who comes across as having his shit together almost too well, cracking jokes even in the most dire of circumstances. In RE6, he's mellowed out in his middle age, becoming a sort of fusion of the two personalities and maturing as a person. So he gets my vote for character growth, even if it was an accident of inconsistent writing.

D) Claire, probably. For old time's sake, and because the last time she was in a mainline game was... way too long ago.

Overall, I prefer Leon to Claire, but that doesn't mean I don't think Claire is also one of the best protagonists in video games. I prefer her to Jill, character wise, for her confident attitude, relationship with Chris, and motherly love she shows to various characters throughout the series. I really love them both.

What about you?

A) Prefer Claire because it makes sense.
B) Leon for no particular reason tbh.
C) Indifferent between the two characters
D) Assuming that Leon has better health, I'll likely start with him while I get comfortable with the gameplay.
If the character differences are not pronounced in this game, then I'll likely go with Claire first.

Isn't it more "linear" this time, where it jumps between the two depending on the chapter?

I played as Claire first originally, so I plan to this time as well. Though it seems like Capcom expects people to start with Leon.

I don't have strong aesthetic preferences this time, but do like the red jacket. I want to say i prefer Claire personality wise, but I'm not sure it's the same this time around.

Edit: what, we don't get a choice? God damn it.

Do we know if the campaign is actually split or not?

Is there even a choice in this version

Didn't they confirm that there isn't a choice in this version?

I thought they said there was no choice, it's all linear?

Rely On Horror: The original game had 4 different scenarios with Leon A/Claire B and Claire A/Leon B. Will Leon and Claire's scenarios mesh more into one overarching story this time around?

Yoshiaki Hirabayashi: One of the great things about the original was this sort of two character system where you could get a different perspective on events. Either as Leon the rookie cop, or Claire as a student—the 'zapping' system as it was known where there was A parts and B parts to each character. We still want to replicate that feeling of seeing two sides to the same story through both character's perspective in their own way. So for that reason we have a Leon campaign and a Claire campaign, they're separate and you can choose which one you want to play first. We did simplify it a bit and make it more elegant by eliminating the A/B distinction and sort of meshing together what happens to the character's A and B scenarios into one story. I think players today, they want these sort of deep/intense experiences with the story, and by stretching it across 4 scenarios the story gets spread a little thin and create a sense of repetition by going through the game multiple times to see everything. So for that reason we went with two campaigns that still show all the events of each character's story rather than have it all split up.

They confirmed you can choose which campaign you wanna play first, but i have no idea where this interview is.

I'll play as Leon first cause that looks like the intended way to play the game.

That's it, thank you. I was getting it mixed up with the simplification of the A and B scenarios into one cohesive storyline.

I don't know honestly. Back in the day I played my first time as Claire A / Leon B 'cause a friend of mine told me Claire would have access to the crossbow and I wanted that. I'll let the moment inspire me

A) Claire. In the original it was because it supposed to be easier and i was young and afraid of the horror game. Later i didn't prefer one over the other, both are important for the story. But in the end i prefer the Claire route because we get the "Umbrella Soldiers try to steal the G-Virus" Cutscene (to this day one of my most beloved CG-VIdeos).

B) Between Leon and Claire? I like Leons blue Police Rookie Outfit. But Claires Biker jacket is also cool. Can't decide.

C) Leon. I like the rookie cop falls in love with spy narative a smidge more interesting than biker girl searches for brother and saves little girl from hulking daddy.

D) Claire.

Oh and to elaborate, while I like both, Leon will always be my favourite RE protagonist. The whole rookie cop thing in RE 2 is fun, but his selfconfident attitude in RE 4 is super fun. "Your right hand... comes off?"

Design wise, I reall like what they have done. Leon looks great, but the updated look for Claire is awesome. I enjoy her new look than the one in the original.

If it's split up I'll go with Leon first again. Leon is my favourite character in this series.

Leon because I like his awkward character. Like no one takes him seriously. Esp. how he tries and fails to play knight in shining armour for Ada always was hilarious

This is a difficult choice when I replay RE2. I prefer Claire generally as a character but she doesn't get the best weapon in the entire series in the shotgun. Gotta play both A and B scenarios anyway though so it doesn't matter too much.

In the next game I'll probably use Claire first though.

Leon is my answer for every question. One of my favourite characters of any medium and his RE2 version is my favourite era of his.
