Not speaking for Steve here, he can chime in on his own, but what I believe he meant is that the banner itself is fake but that contents -- like Ken, as an example, may very well be real.
I think what they're saying is that there might be characters from the banner in the roster, but the actual banner leak itself is false.

This post is really weird because it implies New Pork is bad, when in fact it is among the best stages in Smash
So basically y'all have seen a banner that contradicts this one, is the only explanation I can get from that.
Well, I live in reality and this fake Grinch leak has not been very fun for a lot of insiders or the people who've been harassed. We probably wouldn't still be talking about this low res angled shot of a so called leak if people hadn't cyberstalked some dude and maybe a tenuous connection between his company and BN, which made it feel more real until it was a different company with no connection but the Hype Train had left the station and refuses to crash even though there's basically nothing support it any more.
I thought chair theory was bad (and stayed away because of it) but this is worse.

I seems more and more likely that the banner is real, but Incineroar was thought to be in and is either cut, moved to DLC, or a fake leak spread by the team to confuse people's expectations.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that maybe Sakurai decided to do more with Incineroar? I mean, the reaction to him being leaked as the fighter wasn't exactly enthusiastic, plus people have been championing Decidueye for a while. Maybe Sakurai was torn on which starter to use and they went with Incineroar, but they second guessed themselves and later decide to move him to DLC as a second Pokemon Trainer character. Obviously that's just baseless speculation, but it's one possible explanation for why a Pokemon character could be moved to DLC.

Every single character in the banner has been widely discussed aside from Chorus Kids (who have still been an occasional topic of discussion) and Mach Rider.
IF, and IF this is it while at the same time the contents of the Grinch leak are legitimate, I would like to point out that the dimensions of the bracelet and the banner are probably different enough where the printing company ACP probably received separate character arc to lay out as they please while making it look similar to the official banner. Of course that is just my speculation based on the fact they used a blank background as sort of a starting point based on what we've seen.

There are many RH characters worthy of representing the series. Sakurai chose Chorus Kids as the ones to represent the series and cut over and over again.
Ken, Shadow, Geno and Isaac from this banner seem like locks.
Mach Rider, Banjo, Chorus Kids are the three we probably should discuss.

I'm saying I know for a fact the Snapchat video and banner are fake, for a few reasons I can't discuss without endangering my sources, but they're fake. You're correct that I don't know if those characters are in or out.
The banner itself is a fake. That's all I know that I can say publicly about it.
I haven't seen the real banner personally, no. I doubt anyone on my side of the industry has.
I can't deconfirm any specific characters from the Snapchat video, all I can confirm is that the Snapchat video is indeed fake.

I stand firm in my stance that a second PT is the dumbest thing so, aside from not thinking Sakurai would do any of that, I would hope he wouldn't either.
