Batman TAS |OT| Bat-Magic HD

Batman The Animated Series (TAS) is available in HD for the first-time ever on the DC Universe and will release on Blu-ray on October 30th so I thought it would be nice to have a thread to discuss the show. As old fans revisit it in high-def, and new fans discover it for the first time.

Batman TAS premiered in Sept of 1992 and between this and The New Batman Adventure consists of 109 episodes over let's say 4 seasons.

The show features an outstanding voice cast including Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Loren Lester, Arleen Sorkins, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and many many many more.

Hate to be a downer in the first post . . . but are the blacks kind of washed out in the HD version? The right side is the new master, yeah?

Even if so, there seem to be a lot of improvements along the way.

Fun heads up for folks: my copy just arrived from Amazon and they're shipping these out in thin padded envelopes so my box is half crushed. The CE appears to be back in-stock on Amazon but at full retail price, I'm hoping I can just do a swap. I'm not one of the people who gets hung up about dings on stuff but this is pretty bad.

The set's in-stock on Amazon so they wouldn't give me a credit, said I'd have to return and rebuy and they would refund me the difference between the current price on the site (which is full retail) and what I paid on the preorder which was lower. Great. It's not super bad, but bad enough where I'm pretty annoyed. Like a $10-15 credit and I would have been fine with it. This was also paid for with 2 comp credits from Amazon on OTHER orders they fucked up for on me as well as a gift card so it's gonna be a nightmare getting that all reflected/back. Hmm.

Forgive me for being dense, but is there a non "CE" version of this coming out? I would really like all of the video content but definitely don't need the other stuff. Amazon has a different version listed but it doesn't seem to be for sale. It's been weirdly hard to find information on this.

What is the digital code for then? There is an HD version on iTunes now, but I'm not sure if it's this new release or not.

I assume there will be one at some point, seeing as one leaked onto Amazon with box art a while back. The price difference is enough that it would probably affect sales of this one enough that they went ahead and killed the listing ASAP.

Any good listing of the chronological order of episodes? I know BTAS has a random episode order even though there is clear continuity between certain episodes.

If I didn't know any better it looks like the Funko packaging area of the box is what's causing the problems. Looks completely hollow besides some cheap plastic to hold the figures. Still silly of Amazon not to send in a box, but maybe they honestly didn't know how fragile the packaging is. Waiting on a delivery notice for my set.

Almost all the ones I'm seeing are specifically damaged or crushed much more on the bottom, not near the funko area. Either way this is 99% on Amazon for shipping these in envelopes. I've seen one person who got it in a box so far.

Yeah I didn't explain clearly. The space of the box underneath the figures looks hollow so the bottom area is taking the most damage.

only time amazon will package a LE fine is if it is to big for their largest envelope. So for example the Master edition of breath of the wild actually came in a box.

All the episodes are listed by production order, which is how they should be watched.

I am pissed that they didn't think to use anything but some cheap and flimsy cardboard for the cover. I have ordered less expensive BluRay editions that had hard covers. On top of the corners being damaged, the font being scrubbed off on the top, and multiple creases in the package.

Mine was shipped Amazon Logistics, and its 2pm and still not out for deliver, so actual chance of this showing up before 9pm if it shows up at all today is pretty slim. Wonder if there will be any chance of it not being damaged when it finally shows up.

Ok, so after chatting with Amazon I decided to open my box. Thankfully it was just the outer box which was damaged. I was able to get them to give me $23 off the purchase which works for me.

How do you redeem the digital code? I don't see it anywhere.

it's in the book with the discs... like second to last page. just a paper sheet with a code.

My digital code forced me to use Vudu and it's the SD version, which sucks.

My set came undamaged, though.

My hope would be that Vudu will eventually update their versions, just like iTunes did. You can get the HD versions there. I'm mostly annoyed that I didn't have an option for which service to use.

Vudu can be REAL bad about fixing this stuff. They still offer Party Down S1 in SD and S2 in HD.

It should be FALSE ADVERTISING to sell a digital code with an HD set that redeems in SD.

I'm always anxious about HD remasters of 2D animation... in the effort to remove grain, the result is a loss of sense of depth and texture/subtle brush strokes/etc, the characters stand out from the environments more, and it looks just looks wrong. Disney is awful about this.

I hope to hear good things!

While the left side looks too dark, at 0:45 you can't even see any windows, on the right side the building looks too bright (though the sky is not correspondingly brighter)... maybe the original film was like that, but it looks almost exactly as if it went through a histogram equalization process.
