Was just playing Zelda 1 on my 3DS and in the middle of dungeon 4, I accidentally did my sword attack where I sent a sword at the old man in the dungeon. And he responded by sending fireballs to attack me! Never did this before and it just blew my mind >_>.

I was playing Oracle of Seasons recently and I chuckled to myself at the classic Zelda sort of twist where you burn the grass to find a hidden staircase, talk to the old man, and... he charges you a ton of rupees to repair his door.

Those wily old men hanging out in caves.

Nintendo letting you attack NPCs before it was cool.

Can happen in the original as well.

For real, then the NPCs start calling you thief for the rest of the game.

OP I did the same thing to discover this. Accidentally hit the attack button and was met with a barrage of attacks. I was always curious whether you could actually kill them or not.

I always did this anyway, call me thief all you want, that bow is expensive and I want it.

I've known this since forever but still love it. Those old guys are not kidding around.

It really bothered me that even at the end of the game you would be continuously called Thief... But oh well.

Yup, and it increases the kill-count too (y'know, "10th ennemy has the bomb"). So, you could attack him 9 times then kill the next ennemy with bombs to get a pack of bombs.
