Is there an OT for 76? I was about to preorder to plest the ps4 beta but then saw reports that there are no NPCs so I'm hesitating and looking for more info. I was going in dark because I was looking forward to this so much, but now that I've taken a peek, I'm worried.
There are no human npcs wandering around giving quests with dialogue options but there are ton of quests from robots, terminals, journals, corpses, holotpaes etc.

Here's a summary of all the activities and changes in the game.

I was ACTUALLY able to level up from 3 to 5 on my X without the automatic system shutdown today........but then it happened trying to chose my Perk Cards for level 6 :/. Also crashed and turned off Xbox once when I tried to Fast Travel.

It was a lot more fun today because everyone was so much more spread out over the map. Felt a lot more like Fallout without 10 people trying to use the same thing at once, the first day was nuts.
Yeah its odd,one of our X1X's shut down on the perk screen but the other one didnt. Needs patching pronto!

So I played it last night and I thought it was pretty fun, I'd still rather have a proper Fallout game with dialogue options and settlements with human NPCs but the world seems interesting to explore and the gunplay and movement seem to be a step up from FO4.

It's so... weird. I don't think it's a game for me. When I'm not seeing other people it's quite allright, but even more clunky and "early accessy" than Fallout 4 - which is amusing.

But then people run around, they take the loot (it's not shared if youre not in the group I guess) and make the world feel silly. God I wish there was just a single player mode.
This is EXACTLY why I couldn't commit to The Elder Scrolls Online, and why I know I won't enjoy 76. Just give me the damn offline option, so I can pay the same money, play the same game, but not have to be annoyed with online annoyances like other players showing up and sprinting/jumping everywhere (immersion breaking, which is a huge deal for me in RPGs, go figure), and respawning enemies because devs still can't figure out a proximity system for respawns like in offline games and think being a pseudo-MMO means they can get away with this nonsense. The amount of times I was trying to read a note in an ESO dungeon only to be interrupted by enemies respawning on top of me while reading... Grrrrrr.

What I would give for solo-dungeons in ESO with no respawns (you know, like a TES game). And what I would give for an offline mod-supported Fallout 76 (you know, like a Fallout game). I will never understand the decision to pursue online ONLY rather than online optional, but I'll keep waiting for that private server option with mods Todd suggested could happen.

I've heard the way it works in Fallout 76 is NPCs that are killed stay dead until all the players in the server are far enough away from that area and then it repopulates them; so if everything in a small town were killed off and all the players went to the other side of the map and returned, they'd respawn. No respawning right in front of you in the middle of a fight.
This could be wrong though as I haven't played it yet myself.

This seemed to be the case in the town i was in last night (flatwoods). When i entered the town, there were enemies. All of the players killed them all, and they did not respawn as many of us stayed in the town.

But there is a public event in the town. And that happened twice while i was there. So if you are in a location with a public event, you will encounter spawning enemies from what i can tell.

I had some (non-event) enemies spawn right in front of me, so it seems it's a bit buggged.

I had an invincible scorched walking around in my game as well

So far impressions are mixed. Game got a little rough on my og in spots, but nothing unplayable at least for me. Are you supposed to start with zero special points and just gain a single perk per level instead of packs though?

That's definitely how it should work if they've designed it well, but from the reports I've been seeing/reading it doesn't work that way. Fingers crossed that's because it's bugged though and will be fixed soon. Regardless, that's only half the problem for me, and an offline mode with full Bethesda-size mod support is what I'll need before buying the game. Though I should clarify I'll be perfectly happy to stick to FO4 if that never happens, and I am happy to see there's still an audience that will enjoy 76 for what it is.

I can't 100% guarantee this, but I don't think that's how it works. During the beta last week my dog was way too active so I decided to take her for a really quick run. I had just killed a group of Super Mutants and set up a new camp site and got in that menu thinking maybe if enemies do respawn they'll leave me alone in my camp. So I went to take my dog for a run. I was gone around 10 minutes and when I got back I was dead. I could have been killed by another player I suppose, I don't remember if I had hit level 5 yet where PVP becaomes a thing. But when I did respawn the super mutants were roaming around again.

Wait a second, those times can't be right? 4am in the bloody morning for Australia. Who the hell thought this was a good beta scheduling? And to ask people to pre-order because of this supposed help in fixing bugs and stuff, Jesus.

I have RDR2 on the way, and yet I'm more interested in trying this beta. Never would have predicted that.

I am not a fan of the enemy re-spawning system being so fast. It's disruptive and breaks the immersion of the game. I also generally dislike that if I clear a place out, it re-spawns. Obviously that cannot be changed since it's a shared online experince. Maybe an option in the future for the world to be empty of other players for solo-play? I would enjoy that.

Played yesterday and today. Didn't rush anything, hung out in flatwoods, sutton, and gauley mine. There is a surprising amount of stuff to see and do in those places if you don't rush through and you read everything and listen to all holotapes. i'm not really a fan of listening to holotapes to flesh out story but i find it works well here. In other games i find it breaks up the action too much, but here it makes scavenging interesting.

The main issue i see is bugged enemies. many of them just stand around or there is lag in when you shoot and they go down. hope they can fix that.

Had yet another great session.

Loving every second with this game.

Did a side quest called Cold Case

Did an event.

Explored quite a bit.

Died a lot.

Finally caught up with reading notes and following the plot.

It's crazy to me we still have many more beta hours to ply with prior to launch.

Day one

Another great co-op session and this time the perk screen worked without switching the Xbox off.
Dare I say I was happy to drop RDR2 for another test session.

So people are thinking weapons could have up to 5 legendary effects. The little diomonds represent the amount of legendary effects on weapons. That's what we farm for I guess. There is gonna be some insane weapons. Also I've read if you break down a weapon you get to maybe learn the weapon effect or something? That's unconfirmed though.

Yeah, drops below whats feels like 25 FPS and even complete freezes on XOX for me.

It's joke. They are such a big company and instead of really commiting to making a real, huge alpha/beta, open for all, they are writing letters with warning about bugs and problems at launch. Technically it feels and looks like some kind of DayZ/Rust early access thing. It feels like a game with bigger budget thanks to audiologs/VO, interface etc. But holy crap, switching from RDR2 to this feels like playing GTA3 after GTA5.

anyone playing solo?

impressions?

Me. It's pretty fun. It feels like Fallout. I was able to join a few players for an event and then immediately go my own way.

The aiming feels really unresponsive. I do play a lot of shooters, and I know this isn't one, but it felt pretty mediocre. Fun to explore, looks pretty good on the 1X.

After playing elder scrolls online, My biggest concern here was that this would look, feel and play nothing like the other fallout games. After 8 hours, those worries are gone.

The exploration, lore, world building is all fallout. I've found non-VATs combat to be vastly improved over the other games which is what needed to happen since vats functions more as an auto aim than anything. So combat is serviceable as well.

The biggest difference is that there is, up until now in my experience, far less interior exploration and "dungeons" to explore. We'll see if that continues to be the case.

Personally, I love it .

I think the general consensus is that the game is fun to play but performs rough. At least that's the main issue for me. I haven't found any wild bugs myself (though I've read a different experience from others), but framerate is widely inconsistent.

On a more positive note, I finally managed to find a Snallygaster. They're nasty, I love them.

After really enjoying the first session, I've mellowed out a bit. The game feels very front loaded as far as content goes, hopefully there will be more event variety at launch. I also feel the player count isn't quite adequate. There's massive chunks of the map that will just be completely unpopulated.

I'd really love to hear their reasoning for not doing a big beta earlier on.

Its like they looked at the process a lot of other huge online games go through and said "nah, we don't need to do that. Our single player QA team is probably fine for this".

I really enjoyed it, but I'm glad the PC beta is starting next week. I've been holding back on actually making any progress because I want to save it for my actual playthrough.

Overall, I'm significantly more positive about 76 than when they announced it. I was on the fence as to whether I wanted to keep my preorder, but now I'm sure that I do.

I haven't played this yet but from the videos I've seen Bethesda is running into the same problem Rockstar is. Create this beautiful, expansive, open world but make the gameplay a chore. Not updating the weapon mechanics from Fallout 4 looks to be holding back the moment to moment gameplay. The combat looks so...clunky. The fun from this game seems to be the exploration aspect, but I don't see the combat game play holding up over time. Say what you will about Destiny but it's moment to moment combat is great and this is type of game Fallout 76 is going up against. Bethesda needs to learn how to modernize the moment to moment game play in their games. Especially when they are losing the narrative hook for a title like Fallout 76.

I heard this feels like Elder Scrolls Online with Fallout skin and playstyle. Those performance issues are jarring, we are in due for next-gen.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Elder Scrolls Online. Nothing at all.

Also the performance issues are very much engine related, I'm afraid. Compared to it Red Dead Redemption 2 runs very well and looks so much better in every regard.
