Getting ambushed on the road is really annoying. No cover and trying to shoot them from horseback, usually without much deadeye has resulted in me dying every time so far. Just gonna try booking it next time

I feel like this game was made for people who played GTAV as a life sim and followed all the traffic laws.

It's insane how little problems I have with the controls in general for this game. Like I have no problem with any of it, except tapping X to sprint for Roach.

Like I got into a firefight yesterday with free aim and no aim assist against 4 or 5 guys and I had no problem taking them out. The slow pace of the gunfights and slower movement make this game pretty easy to take out enemies.

Remember everyone, TURN DOWN DEADZONE and UP AIM ACCELERATION. I had to fuck with it a little to make it feel better but once I did, mo problems.

I'm in the same boat as you. After reading the impressions on here I expected the worst, but it feels like a pretty normal game control wise. Maybe a little more stiff than I would like, but nothing egregious.

Is there anything wrong with playing the game as a proper outlaw? Or will hijacking people outside towns ruin my reputation and block other activities /missions/etc?

Got asked for a challenge for shooting, lost, guy wanted to double or nothing, I agreed, while he shot birds I shot him in the head, got good money from that, but then I had to kill like 4 other dudes to not get a warrant. Game has some fun ways for you to so whatever you want.

I'm just now getting around to playing this. I know the game is huge, but these fucking install times are killing me. I only have a small break to game while my kid is napping, and it's going to be all spent waiting to play this thing.

So I just helped this fucking idiot Micah
and we slaughtered a whole damn town...

Even though I wore the damn mask I'm still now wanted dead or alive. The bounty is $300. That's like all my money. Should I just get myself killed to have it cleared? What are my options here?
Is there any detailed explanation of how the bounty system works yet because it seems to be so inconsistent. I did the same mission this evening, with the mask, killed loads of people, no bounty ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd just like to say mapping a face button for movement in a game this pretty is a crime. I like to ride my horse around and direct the camera around me to look at the environment, and its pretty tough without contorting your hand in a weird way or (in my case) owning an elite controller and using a bumper for A. I also wish there was a 'toggle horserun' option for the cinematic camera. Making me hold A doesn't make the ride to the mission any more engaging.

I really have no issues with controls otherwise, but it was an issue I had with AC and other open world games as of late.

It's crazy how many unique encounters and dialogue outcomes there are in this. The world feels so alive.

Did Sadie suddenly disappear for anyone else after the first mission taking her into town? (Rhodes) Got her the special request item and she's nowhere in the camp. Looked absolutely everywhere...

Yeah same here. I'm on the chapter 3 and I need to delivery an item to her but I cant find her...looks like she vanished lol

the absolutely most ridiculous complaint that i read over and over is the fast travel one...it is a game about riding horses, a real cowboy would have even never taken a train back then. here you can take a train, a coach or upgrade the camp to get fast travel

in 30hours i rode the train 2 times from one side of the map to the other. you just miss things when you use quick travel and it just doesn´t fit the tone. this is a game meant to be taken slowly, not zooming around the map, running around the camp and stuff.

there is a reason everything is so slow and deliberate- for example even the collecting herb animation is slow and there for a purpose: it is to take you fully into this time and slow you down. we live in a fast world where everything is connected and mostly directly available, this game is made to take it slow and don´t rush through. it is like being teleported to a different time and place and i just think they have done everything right.

hell, even when it takes you 6months to play through this game, embrace it and don´t get angry at it, there are enough games to rush through but this game just isn´t made for that.

i get when people think it is too slow for them but i for one wouldn´t want this game to be any other than it is. it feels so refreshing and it is a bold move for a AAA game to have everything in place to slow players down and not to rush it.

So this was probably already asked here but I got the legendary bear pelt, then encountered some woman on the road and offered her a ride home. I left the pelt by the road, thinking that it will be there once I return but I guess someone stole it and it's gone forever right? Serves me right, haha.

Edit: forgot to mention that I got ambushed on the way back and died.

Yep, you gotta book it to some cover while taking a couple of pot shots. Once near a big boulder or building, get into cover and take em out

Do not try to take them on alone

Isn't it because the people in the police station see you when you walk in there at the start of the mission? Even if you put your mask on afterwards they probably figure that you're the one who broke him out.

FUCKING THIS.
I hate it.
Got my ass kicked everytime and its frustrating.
I mean I even one time tried to ride my horse to some sort of cover only to get popped in thr back trying to do so.
How the fuck does one survive these ambushes.

Right now I'm doing everything I can to avoid leaving Chapter 2. I'm trying to live in this part of the country, doing only what looks like sidequests from the mission descriptions, and playing poker and hunting. Am I doing this wrong?

Very, very unlikely unfortunately. Ever since GTA 4 their games felt like shit to actually play.
RDR2 really puts it on another level though, you are not really controlling Arthur but rather suggesting him to take a certain direction. And then wait for him to do it...in some way...at his own pace.
Ya.. I am still trying to like the game. It's not a bad game. But just have so many big flaws.

Yeah i did this pronto including increasing look sensitivity, it's amazing how much better the game feels. Not sure why it has such an awful default. Also anyone know how to stop your items form unequipping? a bit tiring hving to rechoose my selection over and over.

There were a couple of those in the last game I couldn't get and missed the platinum. Was pretty gutting considering I got 100% in the single player. I reckon the posse one will be easier to get on this one mind, it was fruitless on RDR PS3.

My horse is called Janet. Binged Good Place recently.
I platinumed RDR1 because I loved it but the online stuff was just not fun.
With Red Dead Online releasing separatedly this time I thought it was gonna have its own trophy list. Oh well.

I'm also very glad fast travel has been nerfed.

It makes me think about where I'm traveling, things I might need to get done in town or animals I might want to hunt along the way. Also keeps me from bee-lining story missions more effectively and naturally than say, level-gating content.

There is no wrong way. Do what you feel.

If you just started chapter 2 then lots of the missions teach you new game mechanics though.

That's weird, I left without a bounty. Maybe because I killed litterally everybody. Anyways, I'd spend what money you have. Expose yourself to a officer and immediately surrender. They'll throw you in jail and take what money you have left. Then you should be good after.

It won't clear if you die. I tried that when I accidentally got a bounty in town, and it was still there after I died.

Fucking WOW

Do you have a gallery of all these gifs?

I do. I'll update it with my next post, though that'll take a while. I'll include most of the gifs I've done, which is already 50+. I don't intend on creating a gallery for them yet, since I plan on making a lot more, like 150+. I'll tag you in the next post so you can have a look at some of them. :)

That's a banger of a kill cam. Would've been even better if it didn't cut to the Arthur shot and went on for a few seconds longer.

I really like the kill cam. It disrupts the pace more often than not, but you get cool little cinematic shots every now and then.

I extended the shot in the field by almost double the amount, but yeah, I really liked that shot too. I just showed the cut to Arthur because I love the detail and it made it a smoother transition back to real-time. :D

I guess it's inevitable with a game this complex, but I am finding myself frustrated by some of the jankiness related to the way people respond to you in the world.

Was standing in a bank and put my controller down and accidentality took my weapon out, quickly picked it up and put it away and walked outside the bank. The lawman inside followed me out and, without warning, escalated it to a shootout.

Also a fella just walked in front of me as I was rounding a corner and almost turned it into a fight which would have resulted in me being arrested as I'm in the middle of town.

Its avoidable mostly, but it does feel janky as hell sometimes.

Unclear on why something happened here:

I was just free-roaming after a quest and hunted a deer. I was too far away from my horse so I picked up the pelt, put it on someone's horse and stole the horse (had the kill the owner because he shot at me, and the horse got stuck and I couldn't get away, what can you do, right?).

I headed back to camp and ran into some O'Driscolls on the way, who chased me. Got a message that I had led them back to my camp, and shot one so I could get away.

Suddenly I got a cutscene showing some moving clouds and I was back in camp, but on my regular horse, so the pelt was gone.

What happened?

Also, I can't figure out what it means when there is an exclamation point next to an icon in camp. Anyone know what that means? Such as on the ammo icon. I had previously picked up some extra ammo at that spot before, but there's nothing there now but still a little exclamation point.

Thanks!

I kinda wish selecting the fists in the weapon wheel makes you not draw your gun out or something. But all things told, it doesn't really happen all that often, so it doesn't really bother me.
