I see a lot of people saying things that I used to think about chiropractors. However, I had a sharp pain in my spine that my doctor couldn't do anything for. It would often just lay me out. Went to a chiropractor, was gone in 4 sessions. No pain and it's been over a year.

I know people that go for adjustments like every month. I do think that's overdoing it, but they do help people with back pain.

This reminds me of the men who wait the toilets In Bangkok. They'll massage your back as you wash your hands, pass you a towel, etc. But many of them do a movement very similar to this. They will put your neck into a lock with their arms, then jolt it in one direction and it'll pop.

As good as it feels I always get a bit anxious about it. I can't justify three seconds of feeling good for a lifetime of disability, and you this is what I'm thinking as they move you into position. But most of them insist on doing it as part of the service in order to secure that $1 tip.

I grew up with a mother who basically only believed in alternative medicine, so I experienced many chiropractors for many years. On one hand, I personally doubt the value of chiropractors, but on the other, none of them where anywhere as crazy looking as the videos being posted. I had my neck cracked in many different ways but never like the video and it never hurt or surprised me.

First of all you dont go there judt for fun but becsuse you dislocated something. Sometimes after a bad night my neck cant be turned to one side anymore, once my niece pushed my chin up and I could hear it crack. It stiffened right after. My joint structure there is pretty useless, I should compensate it with muscles, but that's simply not realistic for me. Anyone believing that cutting open your body at such a crucicial spot would be more promising and manipulating the bodies own structure with human enchantment: If we havent found a good tooth replication that works well, why'd you expect anything else work out better? Any doctor will tell you stick with nature as longas it is possible for you. Artificial is an alternative, but no solution.

In such situations it does make sense to see a chiropractor. My GP specified in it as well, so I can walk in and let him fix it. However, he's doing it slightly different.

Sitting up straight on a chair left hand right knee, right hand bent behind back feet firm on ground, then one fast look to the right, one fast look to the left. Switching. After that I stand infront of him and he hooks under my arms and lifts me up.

At the end its chair position again and with both hands he slightly lifts my head.

It knacks a few times, and afterwards I can move my head again freely.

Ik there's no actual medical benefits here, but how good does it feel getting your back/neck cracked. That's all I'm interested in

I went to one last year. He was too nice. Like, he seemed really sketchy. I had to sign a bunch of waivers. He used some electro stimulate thing on my lower back, then cracked my neck and back. I felt a little better, but later that night I got really sore and had to use an ice pack. I ended up going three times. I would say it helped a bit and made my back feel a little looser, but it went right back to feeling the way it did after a few weeks. Chiros definitely seem sketchy. Probably will never go to one again.

The main difference with a Chiropractor and a proper physical therapist, I mean apart from the obvious of one actually have proven benefit and a general sound theoretical underpinning, is that you'll walk out of a Chiropractor feeling like great, most physical therapy (aside from some light massage) you'll probably feel worse after it. Of course the 'positive effect' of the Chiropactor is extremely short lived. While it'll take the PT a decent amount of time to have an effect but that effect should be long term. That's the big con of the Chiropractor (although most of them buy into the 'benefits') and it keeps you coming back: fits right into today societies need for quick 'wins'.

I haven't gone to the chiropractor in years but when I first suffered a herniated disc in my low back from a weight lifting injury, the adjustments definitely seemed to help get me back on my feet.
The placebo effect is a very real thing. Not saying it's fake either because the mind can do wonderful things for pain and id rather attribute it to that than junk science.

Don't care what people say, I believe they are needed occasionally. I had a terrible pain in my leg, and the doctor didn't see anything wrong and didn't even give me pain meds. I think he thought I was just there for the drugs or something.

While doing the exam with the chiropractor I noticed my one leg was actually shorter than the other and I had to stand with the one knee bent. He did the adjustment, my legs were back to normal, and the pain went away completely a couple of days later.

Well I mean if the videos are on YouTube they must be true.

Take it how you want to boss. I agree it's nuts to see a kid go from bedridden for 3 months to walking within a few visits; I just chose to watch a ton more and approach it optimistically instead of hand-waving it away, calling it anecdotal and placebo.

There's a reason why chiropraxy isn't a legitimate or protected (para)medical specialty. It's in no way based on tangible scientific evidence. You watching a ton of youtube videos with gullible optimism isn't changing that.

The only good chiropractors are the ones that are also formally trained in proper physical therapy.

It's about as nuts as someone that one homeopathic doctor who claimed that bacteria, viruses and fungi are all part of a healthy body, and thus can turn into each other if need be.
Bunch of nonsense to make such grand claims about chiropractors.

Go see a physical therapist and then get a massage for the muscle pain relief. Just don't listen to the masseuse when they try to tell you about all the toxins massaging releases. Even yt has videos on lower back exercises that can be done without weights or at home that will help strengthen the back and core to relieve back pain. I would never see a chiropractor.

Never been to a chiropractor mainly due to the fact the science behind chiropractic care is lacking at best. From what I hear, the lactic acid released from "cracking" your joints does give you temporary relief, but in 24 hours the relief generally subsides and you're already on the phone scheduling another $200 appointment to get adjusted again. This is how chiropractors make money.....repeat customers. If chiropractors actually healed you with an adjustment there would be no reason to go back every month haha. Thats why I prefer just getting massages. Neither massages or chiropractic care will "heal" you physically but massages do feel better than bone cracking so I choose massage.

While we're on the topic of bullshit people buy into, I would never let someone scrape my skin (gua sha) or cupping (where your back looks insanely disgusting after). Doubt there's any scientific evidence to back those up either.

I don't know what was wrong with your leg and I'm glad it's better now but... I wouldn't put too much stock in the "one leg shorter than the other" thing. I've had so many patients who've visited chiros tell me the same thing, and not one of them genuinely had any meaningful difference in the length of their legs. I've come to conclude that chiros say this because it sounds like something that can give you issues and gives you the belief that they can fix it.

I'm a GP. There are tons of people coming through my office with musculoskeletal issues that can't really be pinpointed beyond concluding that they're harmless and will resolve on their own. Yet, somehow, chiros always come up with a diagnosis even if that diagnosis makes zero medical sense. I guess it's how they build trust.

All nonsense made legit by sport stars.
Reminds me of those athletes that will shill for stuff like health drinks sold by pyramid schemes, or those extremely stupid hologram bracelets.
Like this:
PB_Silikon-Armband_FCB_red-white.jpg

The official FC BAYERN Power Balance™ silicone bracelet.
"The Power Balance™ bracelets and necklaces with the unique holograms were developed by athletes in the USA and can be worn comfortably in all sports. In addition to many successful top athletes, Power Balance™ is particularly popular with people who are also active in everyday life. The knowledge that our well-being depends on the natural flow of energy, which is thousands of years old in Far Eastern cultures, is also increasingly being accepted in the West. Power Balance™ was created on the basis of this philosophy."

I wish people weren't dumb enough to support this shit.

I've been watching a lot of "guru" head messages from India lately after the death of baba. And they always end with some untrained dude manhandling their neck and it freaks me out every time.

Chiropractic was invented by a dude who believed he had restored someone's hearing by cracking their back. He believed that problems with the spine were the source of all disease. He also believed in and practiced magnet healing. Some of the common tools used by chiropractors to measure "subluxations" rely on the ideomotor effect, making them essentially dowsing rods for your spine. Studies comparing the effectiveness of spinal manipulation to mainstream treatments show at best inconsistent results.

Chiropractic is not science based treatment and is needlessly dangerous for the results (or lack thereof) that you get. People have died from strokes caused by spinal manipulations that chiropractors perform. This is quackery, plain and simple.

Are all shenmue fans just broken people? Only you guys could walk into a thread full of people who seem to think chiropractic practise is quackery and go, "actually, no, chiropractors are good, come watch my bullshit video to see why"
