Yeah I'm real curious at what went behind the scenes at gamexplain in regards to this leak. They just put out a short video saying "lol its fake" and never referenced it again. This is the same channel that dissects every little thing and they aren't going to talk about the biggest rumor in Ultimate's cycle? If it's fake then who cares?

This does kinda put GameXplain in a weird spot, in that it suggests they know the rest of the roster or at least have an idea of certain characters that are on it, which will make the next predictions piece or speculation video a bit... difficult, I imagine, since they'll either have to "predict" what they know, or predict something they don't actually think is in the game.

I think it's odd as wel, they had discussions about Smash Wii U NX years ago when the Switch wasn't even announced.

Yeah, Nintendo telling people to be quiet wouldn't work in this case, but leak bait was still possible, even if unlikely.

To be very fair "Is Banjo in Smash???" is a bit less serious than questions about actual issues.

It feels like Gamexplain knows the full roster. They don't want to do a discussion because they already know this leak is fake and it would be awkward to discuss. No point in giving a fake leak a discussion and playing it up for the fans.

A) they know it's fake and have seen footage or have info of characters mia

B) they think/know it's real, and are fully on board the "don't want to ruin the surprise" hence the comment of "not wanting to give this more exposure"

C) they think or have strong reason to think it's fake, and don't to waste time getting people excited about it

D) they think/know it's real, and are afraid to talk on the record for fear of being blackballed by Nintendo

I get that, but they don't have to do that. Just have a discussion about if it's real or not without making a judgment.

Instead they DID make a video about why they know it's fake... but game up without obviously bs reasons because they couldn't name the real reason.

Honestly the idea of Nintendo putting out bogus info to employees is more likely then them telling Journalists to shut up.

I'm excited for a game with everyone back in addition to long awaited fan favourites like K Rool and Ridley. Mechanically Ultimate might just be the most sound in the series too (only played around 7 hours so can't be definitive yet)

It's weird how the GameXplain crew has to get secondhand hearsay like everyone else in the industry when Sakurai himself writes their paychecks and helps brainstorm their features.

One thing for sure is that the Golden Sun Battle Theme is one of the greatest video game tracks of all time and I'm not even a huge fan of the series, lol. It's remix is going to be sick. I wouldn't even care if ISaac is in the game if we get a remix of it.

They to acknowledge it in some way because it was a huge main stream leak...so like if they didn't even do that, it would be very weird.

I'm surprised we haven't seen many serious attempts at fake leaks about Spirits - what with it being this big mode and all.

In this short video, Larry Lurr explains why he feels many of the mechanic changes (speed buffs etc.) might push Smash Ultimate' meta towards more of a rock-paper-scissors structure (Heavies/Grapplers > Rushdown/Zone Breakers > Zoners > Heavies/Grapplers).

I was getting at that. I don't get the whole treatment of journalism in this context as this super serious separate beast from Twitter personalities, when the end result may involve less noise and bickering but basically the same amount of actual new information.

And yeah the massive collusion cover-up stuff is silly. Though I could totally see emails being exchanged where Nintendo reps are off-the-record (justifiably) really upset Sakurai's surprises got ruined. What a week indeed.
