Maybe GameExplain aren't even entertaining the idea of discussing it because they don't want to piss off Nintendo. I mean let's say hypothetically it is real and GameExplain knows it is real, would they happily come out and be one of the first groups of people to break NDA and give it legitimacy?

A month ago they did a 30 minute video in the blog theory.
The comment in the most recent gamexplain discussion that I found interesting was when they brought up the sapling, andre said something like "if the sapling is golden sun it would have some interesting implications" which had kind of a weird pause after it. They didn't really follow up on the point very well either it felt like they shifted the conversation away from that point.
They didn't give Isabelle barking sound effects, so I think we'll be fine with Banjo & Kazooie (if they make it in). You could make an argument for Bowser, DK and Diddy being animalistic and thus making the animal sounds fitting, but I don't think that fits for the bear and bird at all.
A month ago maybe they didn't know things they know ("know") now.
I can see Nintendo freaking out about this leak and telling their press partners to zip it.
I thought it was because they removed the option to choose the chest size in the character creator which there is a debate to be had if you just wanted the character to look more like yourself

Mr. Grinch put a Trump Curse on "The Insiders" and now we have to pay Liam $5 to give Shadow guns in Smash before Joey the Gamer releases the evidence that Jon from GameXplain is up to sketchy business involving Incineroar leak-bait conspiracies.
That doesn't explain why independent people like Liam are so adamant it's fake. Unless they're paranoid of being mega black balled. Even then I would assume you'd just go silent over arguing the leak is fake while hinting at a missing pokemon/incineroar.
I thought the 4chan guy meant the insiders were orange garbage people with anus-shaped mouths when he said they had the Trump curse

Cover it. Say wow this all looks real but I don't know doesn't look too definitive. End by saying they could see how it's real but can't in good concience say it is yet.

The last direct is win or lose for alot of avatar bets, each lost should be a week added to the loser's avatar bet, lose all of them and you have to watch illumination's the Grinch in theaters

I want to be polite about this, but as someone who works in local news, the sort of coverage I've seen of the Grinch rumors isn't journalism either.
Vetting and protecting sources is one thing. But it would be a big ethical breach to flaunt information told to you in confidentiality, and no editor would let it fly to have the extent of your reporting on a credible-looking thing be "Thing isn't real. I'm not going to tell you why but it just isn't."
Blog Theory doesn't leak any characters though. Just gives a data range for how many there could be. A safe, manageable theory that Nintendo wouldn't get mad at.
It makes sense for Smash 64, they used realistic animal sounds in the Donkey Kong Country games. Post DK64, I guess he just wanted to stay consistent.
To be fair, it does sort of harken back to the Rare's SNES games, where DK and Diddy did make realistic ape/monkey sounds
