Is the CERO rating that useless that Sony thought that making every dev go through the ERSB (and presumably forcing them to pay for both of them since i'm pretty sure they won't) was needed?

Can't be the ERSB rating as Sony doesn't accept that either: see SK getting a rating with the mode and then Sony still telling Marvelous to remove it.

Fuck all those creepy anime fucks that get off on seeing teenaged, polygonal panty shots. Good for Sony to evolve.

I will proudly kink shame people that HAVE to look at video game and plastic doll panties or else they just go crazy with sexual frustration.

The growing evidence over the last couple weeks of Sony seeming to have implemented an additional content policy above the ESRB is, to me, unfortunate. I'm not in favor of what they appear to be doing and for the time will be shifting my spending, as much as possible, away from their brand. Even if the message isn't to my liking, I would, at the very least, appreciate if the company openly addressed the situation.

Is this out of the pocket of Sony? If not... how those small devs that make visual novels are going to do it? And if it becomes a known issue for the JP Players... will they buy stuff for Playstation still?

I saw a video of one of these senran kagura games and It was of of control. I personally found it pretty funny in an absurd way (i mean wtf with the slapping event? omg) and I'm not mad that people want that but I think it is more than reasonable to control that on a platform. It's not decent lol.

Censoring of scantily clad girls under 18 is good. But this push for censorship of everything from those who lean left of late is troubling. Kinda reminds me of the censorship push from the religious right in some ways.

Yeah, this is the big issue. Devs and publishers can go through all the necessary steps to get their game released and now Sony can effectively put a roadblock in the way just so they can get their way, adding in all kind of expenses and manpower that didn't need to be spent otherwise. I don't see what Sony gains from moving in this direction, other than a moral victory that everyone will forget about in less than a week.

Good. If Sony can lead the way in destroying the stranglehold that the more deviant parts of the otaku fandom have on Japanese game design, I'm all for this.
Yeah Sony will save the gaming industry! /s

Well, if this allows for the continued growth of Japanese games on PC (and potentially Switch), then good... I can only applaud this decision then.

This. After Dragon Quest 11 orchestra mod and the recent flock of Japanese games onto the steam platform, i've been using my PC more than my PS4, which i used to play mostly japanese games and exclusives.

I don't know exactly what the complaints are. Are they pissed because Sony is blocking pedo shit and female sexualization?

What's sexually explicit in Japanese games on major hardware, though? Nudity is already heavily censored as it is and I don't think CERO allows for sex scenes to begin with.

The common theme with all of these games is that they have characters that are intended to be children being sexualized in one way or another. That seems to be what Sony's cracking down on. They don't seem to have an issue with sex or sexy designs when they're meant to be adults. As you see with the recently released SCV. Cyberpunk also won't be touched even though it's obviously going to have a bunch of content that would fall into that category. What it isn't going to have is children being put in that way.

This sounds super heavy handed no?

Didnt we create the ESRB for this? Quite frankly we should be really up in arms about this. No one, I repeat NO ONE has the authority to tell you what you can or cannot view, play, read, watch, or see. This is disgusting.

Seems like Omega Labyrinth got both PEGI and ESRB ratings as well, so this is clearly Sony pushing things further than demanded by the ratings boards.

Maybe this is why DOA6 is toning down the sexualization? Tecmo was probably aware of this for a while and designed their game to be safe from issues with this.

I think I'm gonna need to see an actual source on this one (beyond some random social media post) as forcing secondary certifications in english on games that will never be released in english makes zero sense.

Cry me a river over the animu censorship though.

I am really not sure that what look like a spiteful comment by a erogame maker, relayed by the cesspool that Hachima is would be a good starting point for this kind of discussion.

I guess the point is that they're already so heavily neutered as it is that I'm not sure what point there is by sanding them down even further. If Sony doesn't want these games at all, just kibosh them at the concept approval stage and be done with it. What they're doing here is frankly more alienating.

The ones not reading the OP? Agreed.

The vast, vast majority of the OP is dedicated to Japanese comments pissed about the censorship aspect of the issue. The first sentence frames the issue as one of censorship. You cannot expect people not to comment on it, especially when it's a very big problem for a lot of them. Get mad at the OP for not properly highlighting the other issue at hand, not the people commenting on the actual content of the opening post.

Additionally, one can be happy with the result (less pedobait games) and upset at the system used to achieve said results (making the review process extremely unfriendly to Japanese developers). This is how I feel and I'm sure others do too.

This makes me really sad. Hopefully, the Switch can successfully pick up the Vita audience and Steam also picks up in Japan.

As expected, of course people will react like that. Also, it's amazing how the comments are so similar to what we have on the west. lol

Where do you think those games launched? Those type of games are normally sold in Asia in general and in Japan.

No hentai is allowed in any console, this is the same for Japan.

And those two franchises have quite a content on sexualization and many other things so huh, sure.
Sexualization ≠ Borderline porn (or at worst, child molestation).

Funny how some people dislike using the word censoring when it's censoring something they believe should be censored. Censoring is value-neutral IMO.

I'm all for Japan addressing its perverted issues, but I can see why this method would annoy some Japanese people. It would be like Japan forcing American companies to fix their gun violence problem by making them censor violent games with Japanese standards.

I loved Uncharted's blood free modes in Japan. I wish we had that kind of censoring (of just a mode really) more. I would also definitely always chose a "no fan service mode" too.

The irony of that comment when Chie had many extra costumes sexualizing her and oh, she's underage as well. I guess that don't count.
