Like I really have no idea how OLED owners are saying the HDR implementation looks fine.

No matter what the range on the scale (80-500), shadows look grey instead of black on my C8. It's garbage and looks so much better with SDR. The (very) minor loss of peak brightness is totally worth it with it off.

What do you have dynamic contrast set to and are you using HDR Game Mode or regular?

I went from Pro to Xbox One X.

The difference is massive.

There is definitely a difference, but not that "massive" unless you're doing pixel level zoom-ins. Check these out. I tired to do 1 : 1 approximations of XBX shots from my Pro. The results are respectably close. Open these in different tabs and go back and forth, the Pro shots exhibit extra softness but otherwise they're generally close.

OK, some more approximations of some XBX screens seen earlier in this thread on the Pro. Both XBX courtesy of Theorry

The Pro is great if you forget the Xbox One version exists, which I will do now. Though looking forward to replaying on PC when it does eventually come out. Also I have HDR turned off. Like it better, though I suppose I don't have my HDR set to movie mode.

No the Pro version is not good inferior to many other PS4 Pro game. I hope a patch will arrive as soon as possible. If it is a few months away it is ok too. If no, I will wait PS5...

Man reading these HDR peoblems, i decided to have a look on my E8 OLED.

HDR off looks SO SO much better. Colours are more vibrant, and the game looks cleaner. Almsot like some of the blur is gone.

HDR on looks bad. Like colours are dull, and it blacks are grey and lools washed out.

Wtf Rockstar.

Also as a weird thing i dont know why, i set my E8 to high and my PS4 to auto, and on the brightness calibration i cannot see the rockstar logo. So i set TV to Low, and PS4 to limited and still no logo.

When i mismatch them i can see the logo. Is this normal?

ATM i have always had my PRO set on Auto and my LG set on high. I have noticed when set to AUTO, the PS4 defaults to HIGH. I know this because i can swap between HIGH and auto on the PS4, and no black screen as it changes. But as soon as i click limited screen goes blank for a second while it changes. This is regardless of if TV is set to low or high.

This is strange as well same as anyone elses?

I have a TCL P607, the 'recommended' 100 luminescence for LCD screens left everything incredibly dark for me, the more I increased luminescence the more the screen started getting washed out and losing contrast (even though my contrast on the TV is 100). The HDR in the game ain't right.

It's much better with HDR = off in this case.

Primethius isn't wrong at all. There is quite a huge difference between Pro and X versions..even DF states that in their analysis.

I can't see the logo with my C6 and Pro. I turned my Pro to output 1080p and turned HDR on. So far that's how it looks the best to me. With 2160p and HDR it looks a little washed out and blurry.

LG B7/ PS4 Pro user here. I really can't understand this issue. At one mission (when you hunt a legendary animal for the first time), the red color of the flowers in that area pops so much more with HDR on. Same with the sun for example. There is such a larger margin of brightness with HDR on AND blacks are deep black (as it should be).

This is the first game i have played to look like this. And i never notuced until i saw some posts and thought to look.

The brightness is more with it on, and you can see straight away with the white text boxes etc. They are super bright. But Everything else just looks washed out. The difference is massive. I will probably end up playing with HDR off and thats a shame.

I just cant workout why unless i mismatch my RGB or turn brightness on the TV up to 68, i cant see the logo. Something has to be wromg somewhere.

Do you turn it off in the system settings? I have the same TV and was debating trying both ways to see the hub bub.

At best i can manage to get the hdr to look about as good as sdr. Meh. Ill just go with sdr then.

Any idea how long a full download will take on xb1x presuming i m getting the max possible speeds their servers allow?

It is... something. The game is gorgeous but at the same time it's just slightly fuzzy enough for you to notice and it's kind of driving me insane. I feel like I'm developing glaucoma playing it on my Pro.

Worst thing is there's no reason for me to pick up an X1X, aside from RDR 1 and 2. I don't really want to add another box to my setup, so I guess I'll just finish the story and then wait and hope for the PC version.

Playing on an 1X and it looks gorgeous. However, the HDR issue needs to be patched. I have a KS8000 and the game is too dark on the recommended HDR settings. Also, high dynamic contrast has to be used and it causes oversaturation. I turned off the HDR and everything looked great. Hope Rockstar fixes this.
The recommended (100?) setting didn't make any sense at all with my TV, I have a Sony XE93 and I cranked it up to max (500) and still get dark black levels and super bright white levels with the details intact. The game looks gorgeus.

DF has already done these approximations with better accuracy and, consequently, more authentic results. Which this very thread is made for.

Sure, not saying the Pro version is magically superior in any way. DF did their approximations and I just posted mine. In good-case scenarios, the Pro version is still a respectable replication if not a direct 1 : 1

I had my hand on the buy button a little bit ago.

Now I'm starting to see a lot of complaints about the game itself. I didnt even finish the single player of GTA5 and disliked GTA4. I'm hearing they play a lot alike.

Between that and the subpar effort from R* we got from reconstruction I haven't purchased yet. If i do buy I'm going to play on base and 1080 because the blur would drive me insane.

Someone said their is a slider for sharpness and it's set all the way up. If it's on pro turn it down and it will get rid of some of that.

Anyway still undecided and I'm also still in the middle of SM.

I've popped the HDR off on X, I just can't get it right at all and it's annoying, to be fair it's about the only gripe I have.
Sat and played dominoes for 30 mins, I didn't win, this game is going to steal a lot of time from me. I need to continue on with the story and stop getting distracted.

side question does the play disc ever completely stop spinning on X or is this like gtaV where assets are streaming from both disc and hard drive?

Are the valuables meant to be donated to the camp or do some shopkeepers buy them?

Edit: Whoops meant to post in OT.

Does everyone turn on the Game Low
Latency setting when playing single player games? I use a monitor for multiplayer games, but play on a 47" Vizio for
single player games.
I have the Game Low Latency setting on right now, but In afraid Im missing out on better picture if I turn it off?

Playing on an X, the game looks unbelievably good. IMO the intro section sort of hides the beauty of the game a bit, once you get out of the snow it looks incredible.

You're copying the entire content of both discs, so it only spins for the first few seconds and then stops. Everything is done via HDD. This is true for all consoles.

General stores can buy them IIRC but you can also donate to increase your gang funds (which help in upgrading the camp)

I have been wondering this as well. Why won't anybody buy them?
Because they were looted/stolen? But how would they know? XD

Thanks for answering also wtf why did I post that in DF Analysis? xD

I think with so many threads on RDR2 I've lost track of them.

I've changed my mind about hdr. No matter what setting, it is actually washing the picture out, mind you I still get dark blacks but it is like colors only are washed out. And if you compare night in sdr, and night in hdr, the whole scene is far far too bright, almost like the moon itself that illuminates everything is two or three times as bright. Sdr just looks like I'd expect everything to.

Even with the way reconstruction works, still shots will look a bit cleaner than the actual game in motion and still XBX version is significantly cleaner.

Once you get to Valentine and you experience a few different times of day you can see how well this game hangs together. On base PS4 when you're in the middle of town, you'll probably notice it dip just a bit below 30 fps during the day - but only in moments, and Arthur walks with a slow gait anyways so it lessens the impact a bit. The majority of it is very cohesive.

What the updated tech (at least from GTAV/RDR) does for R* is it makes their "drive/ride to a location while having a chat" mechanic much more palatable. That and the way they integrate characters with moveable objects (like three or four characters climbing into and riding a wagon as passengers while you drive), or have characters keep talking among others while you're on a mission task, makes a difference with immersion. Other games wait for your character to reach a specific spot, or wait for you to activate a hotspot to start an interaction with a character, but this game makes starting a mission or task more natural. In motion it comes together very well.

User Banned (1 Day): Platform warring.
People switching over to an xbox one x simply because of rdr2 being superior on it are absolutely ridiculous! Each to their own, but it is a bit silly, especially when rockstar haven't even commented on a potential 'fix' if there is one.

The ps4 has far more exclusives and even multi platform titles on par with the x, so there are very few reasons to own microsofts console.

I expect the vaseline issue to be resolved but it does remind of the gta4 situation where the ps3 version was quite blurry compared to the 360. Patches weren't as regular back then, but if the community are vocal enough rockstar will fix this. It is sony who are feeding rockstar and not microsoft, so i am sure they are smart enough to pay attention to them.

If this is a case of ensuring that the game is effectively '4k' then i really do not know what to say! In this case a toggle to 1800p will do.

Have more people tried this on the pro pre patch?

Some people aren't switching, they just have the money to spend and $500 is nothing to them.

I would say there are enough reasons for the switch and most likely this is the tip of the iceberg. Coming multiplayer games might start to show even bigger differences.. And then there is the game pass and bc features..

All in all, it is not totally unreasonable for the switch. But it can also be that many guys/gals here have 500 quid just laying around so.. ;)

I'm really disappointed with the washed out graphics. I don't know if this is how R* wanted the game to look or some bad HDR implementation. Colors are also saturated. (XB1X)

I hope a patch gets released and would fix things
