The thing about Ina that I can't stand, is she always tells you to use a "good" whatever. "Use a good mayonnaise," "use a good egg," "use a good potato."

Like, queen please, I serve my family bad shit, don't tell me what to do.

mainstream media literally more afraid of being called biased by an anti-science ideological movement than of being killed by a broken climate and is stunned that voters feel differently. oh dear god.
In most cases, mainstream media does not even talk about Climate Change unless it's shit like the climate report from a week ago. Al Jazeera talked about this a couple of days ago.

Has some new Missouri polling come out that has been bad? Every MO poll I've seen was +/- 2 on each side which seemed toss-up like. In contrast to ND where there was a long series of bad (sometimes REALLY bad) polls for Heitcamp.

Almost like...the Senate is in play.

No. I'm totally sure the reason he's showing up in Texas, Missouri, West Virginia, Montana, Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida (twice) is for a victory lap and not because their internal data is showing those races as tossups (or worse).

They're probably getting internals from both side with a slight Hawley lead.

Rush Limbaugh: "None of the stuff on that van, the stickers and the decals, very little of it looks faded, meaning it doesn't look like it's been there very long... As best I can tell, his twittering ... dates back to 2016, which is quite timely."
Yeah how could a man be so radically changed over the course of a single presidential election, BIGTHONK

Jives with the Talking Points Memo from yesterday.

I still think she takes it. Doesn't MO have some ballot initiatives up with this election?
Nope, that was in the primary.

I'm not saying she's done, I'm saying they're probably moving it for a legitimate reason, not because they feel like it. And we've been hearing the race may be trending towards Hawley.

Yea that Obama speech was something else. The sort of rhetoric that should be dominating the news instead of what is typically being focused on.

I was listening to an NPR story earlier this morning about how small oil/gas towns are now booming and more conservative.

I need an edit of this meme:

But Kennedy's face is the planet earth, with her lips, and the image says "fuck my existence, right?"

Gonna be rough when Green energy and automation wipe that sector out in the next decade or so.

I feel like every single day the overall fundamentals and just, like, national vibe moves more and more in our favor and yet lately it's paired with a daily update of "but the senate news just got worse again somehow lol ."

I know we have a terrible map but like what the hell. Gaining 40+ house seats and LOSING net senate seats is just..... what the hellllllllll.

I still have faith in our turnout but it's maddening.

The outlook for Dems in the Senate in 2020, in theory, is much more favorable than 2018, isn't it? I thought I remember reading that somewhere, may have been here. No idea if that's actually true though.

It is.

Less than ten of the seats up for reelection next month are GOP controlled. More than twenty are Democrat controlled.

Thats not going to be the case come 2020.

A lot depends on how well 2018 goes for democrats. Every senate loss in a single election hurts you for the next two, which is why 2018 is so bad for senate democrats in the first place.

Yeah it's nearly the exact opposite. The only really vulnerable seats are New Hampshire and Alabama (I should mention Virginia was surprisingly close in 2014, but I doubt it will be next time).

Democrats can hold even or even lose a seat this year and still have a relatively "easy" path to a majority. CO, IA, ME and NC will be prime pickup opportunities and even if we lose AL, the other AZ seat will be up for special election and could compensate.

Really doubling down on hating non-white people

The wealthiest nation in the entire world with a military budget exponentially greater than practically the entire list of nations combined, and half the country is SCARED TO FUCKING DEATH of a bunch of brown poors.

Republicans are the party of cowardice and Trump will prove how frightened they are of the outside world by locking the doors tight and pointing our vast military might at the scary unknown with shaking hands and sweat dripping from our foreheads! This he promises to you all!

The maps bad this time but in 2 years we got a few pickup chances in CO, IA, ME, NC, & AZ. Yeah AL will likely be a loss but as long as we hold serve this year we should be good. If the off chance we lose MO, IN & ND but pick up AZ, NV and hold everything else without TX, TN its still a win. We were so supposed to be blown out on this map and the fact that the swing state 5 are all cruising to reelection is fantastic.

The problem with the 2020 map is that if Trump wins re-election, he'll likely drag many Republicans over the finish line (as he did in 2016). Remember '16 was supposed to be a good map for Dems too, but those opportunities vanish when the opposing party's presidential nominee wins the whole thing.

also this seems extremely worrying?

Texas election officials confirmed that voting machines used in 30% of its counties (including its biggest) are switching people's votes, including the Senate race between Ted Cruz and Beto O'Rourke. The GOP-appointed officials say they have "no legal authority" to update them.

We bought a lot of our electronic machines after 2000 and we haven't updated them and they haven't been meant to be used for almost 20 years.

Counter point... He probably won't win reelection and if that's our reality we're fucked with or without the senate.

Also we gained at least one senate seats in 2016 didn't we?

Just for the sake of clarity, Trump ran behind most other GOP Senate candidates in 2016. Though I would agree that an environment that lets Trump win is probably an environment were GOP Senate candidates do well. Though it wouldn't likely be them being dragged across the finish line. Then again, Trump will be more popular with GOP voters in 2020 than he was in 2016.

As for that voting news, does Texas not use paper ballots or paper ballot backups?

Missouri has a redistricting/lobbyist, three marijuana, and a minimum wage amendment up for a vote that could drive up participation on the left. There is also a transportation tax measure being voted on that could spur the anti-tax righties to the polls.

The machines in TX have been affecting Beto AND Cruz voters. Cruz has been telling his voters at rallies to be sure they let the machine update before they save their vote. It seems more like old, wonky machines than nefariousness, especially since they've been open about it.

People just really need to check their selections before they submit.

we gained two.

This is the first and only election since the passage of the Seventeenth Amendment in 1913 where the winning party in every Senate election mirrored the winning party for their state in the presidential election.

2016 would've been a good Senate year without the Comey letter and last-minute collapse. Toomey and Blunt likely would've been goners, and Feingold and Ross would've had fighting chances.

We would've had 50-52 seats.
