I was pretty hyped about Oikawa Shizuku (Idolmaster) finally receiving a scale figure. But she has gone up for pre-order and she costs ¥19000 on AmiAmi! What you get in return is what looks a good but otherwise unremarkable figure which is only 23 cm tall.

It breaks my heart, but yeah, I probably won't be getting her.

Somewhere.
It makes me wonder how far they are going to go with different types of skins. Looks like Cobalt Mercy has the golden version of her staff too.

Maybe it's time to consider a second job :p

Kidding aside, yeah it's bad now. I've seen lines double in price when compared to 10 years ago.

Otaku Mode is not really a good gauge of prices. They have a pretty high markup that's only offset by promos and bonus points.

Part of that is regular inflation, sure. But most of it stems from a couple years back when the ¥ was fucked and the exchange rate was like 120:1 in the favor of USD. Eventually Japanese manufacturers got tired of it so they raised prices across the board, then when the JPY evened out, they left prices as they were, because why not? These schmucks were still paying the asking prices without question. So here we are.

Personally, I've cut back a lot. Not because I can't afford it, but because I don't want to spend as much as it would require to keep up. And I'm just getting tired of the hobby in general. There will always be figures I want to own, but the list of figures I need has gotten much smaller in the last few months especially. I'm pretty much set at this point on just collecting the various bishoujo lines from Kotobukiya and some lewds here and there.

I started downsizing my collection and selling off my more impulsive purchases several months back and I've gotten rid of about 40 of them by now. It's a nice chunk of spending cash back in my pocket.

The only scales I'll buy these days are horror bishoujo and pre-owned stuff from before 2010 based on niche properties cause they're like $40.

Oh, I know about that, just commenting about how they're the only things I buy that really made such a big jump in price. American figures are no where near as bad but I rarely buy those.

Yeah but figure technology in 2010 was kind of lol.
IDK, all these figures that I own were released in 2010 (and probably a few more, since MFC updates the searchable "release date" to the latest re-release:

https://myfigurecollection.net/item/13815 - Alter Selvaria
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/27637 - Alter Momohime
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/9886 - Yamato Velvet
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/13763 - VN02 Miku
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/16890 - AxO Neliel
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/28128 - Yamato Asuka
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/33856 - Yamato Rei (a re-release of an even earlier figure)

You're not going to find a lot as extravagant as some of today's figures, but look where the prices were.

Hell, look at these 2009 figures:

https://myfigurecollection.net/item/10445 - MH Risty
https://myfigurecollection.net/item/9322 - ebCraft Selvaria (an absurd 16k in her day)

Honestly, I have a hard time considering anything to be worth that price anymore. Figure pricing has jumped the shark over the past couple years.
Pfft you put in a preorder for DX 2B didn't you? :P

I agree with you. Since 2016 or so I've only bought 2 figures because of A) ridiculous figure prices and B) not really a lot of figures I'm interested in and C) I expanded too fast got rid of some of them. 2B is the first non-bishoujo figure I've preordered since...Miku Mirai 2014 I think?

I'm happy figure prices increased as much as they have. It makes it easier for me to cut-back and only purchase a handful of figures each year, as space concern was becoming an issue. I tend to go for the lewd exclusive figures, as they tend to retain their value a lot easier than standard releases, but I do make exceptions at times for characters I really love (i.e., 2B).

I believe someone posted earlier about wanting a figure of a girl with some style with hooves? Well Revolve answered your call.

I'm not sure if it's NSFW or not. It's in the general bishoujo section of AmiAmi so it should be safe, if not I'll remove the link.

Edit: I'll remove the link, since I'd rather not draw unwanted attention to NSFW links and get this thread closed down. If you're interested, just search for Chiyo on AmiAmi.

Chrono-kun pls. I already got my order in. There's also an exclusive version with a different base, but I thought it makes the figure blend in too much and prefer the contrast of the original base.

Also yes, I'd call that NSFW. There are also like four or five other figures of Chiyo coming out from other manufacturers.

Yeah, I saw the special base. I do prefer it, but the additional cost of going through a proxy would be too much work. I'm not familiar with Revolve though, do they do good work? I'm also not familiar with the source material, I just love demon girls.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the exclusive base. But I think it obscures the figure itself since it's pretty much the same color as her legs. The standard base adds a nice contrast so the figure can be seen fully and easily. One of the few times I've opted to skip the exclusive.

As for Revolve's quality, most of their figures seem to be rated in the 9's and high 8's on MFC. I don't own any of their work yet personally.

Damn, she's super cute. Wish she wasn't 1/8 though. Probably wait for Dragon Toy's since she'll probably be 1/6 and pair up nicely with Marie. One way or another I'll be grabbing one of these Chiyos though. Love me some hooved cuties. If only Blizzard would do a Yrel statue.

Yeah, I can see it. The white of the fluffy base does give a much better contrast.

Ugh, I love her design, but I know absolutely nothing of the source material. Well a bit from a simple Google search but nothing substantial, and I don't generally like buying figures from something I'm not familiar with. She's beautiful, but I'll probably still pass. I'll give it some thought and see how I feel a little later on.

Yeah, she's really cute.

I don't particularly like Dragon Toy's sculpt (even though it's 1/6 scale, my preferred size for figures), Max Factory's Chiyo is a bunny girl version, so no hooves. Revolve's look the best so far, IMO.

No arguments there. The paint looks kind of flat on Dragon Toy's as well, honestly. I just don't know where I would put Revolve's is my problem. My only 1/8s are my Odin Sphere and Muramasa sets. Everything else is larger, and I can't stand mismatched scales on a shelf. Don't think I have any 1/8s ordered on the horizon either.

And yeah, can't say I'm feeling Aquamarine's sculpt either. Teehee indeed.

You could try placing it right in the middle of your dinner table. It would make for an interesting conversation when you invite friends/family over to visit.
