Starting to see what previews meant by R* blurring the line between side content and main missions.

Every time I wander into something that I'm sure will be a throwaway thing it has the same level of presentation and involvement as the story missions with the gang. Crazy.

Damn near unprecedented too when you think about it.

Even something as awesome as Spider-Man has side missions that seem (mostly) like an afterthought.

How do you get your horse to follow whoever you are riding with?

I'm holding a to match their speed but I'm still needing to actively steer to avoid going off a cliff

That felt off to me too. The only thing I found that works is to switch it to cinematic mode and just hold 'x' on PS4, or I guess 'a' on Xbox.

Those impressions about the gameplay are rough. Why the heck most reviewers skipped this very important aspect or mention it very briefly like if it was nothing, yet they still gave it a 10?? The hyperbole they create with this kind of AAA games I swear. I never read their reviews anyways because they almost never provide the real facts/issues about the game, they just (for the most part) overhype things. Reading people's impressions after the game launched is the definite way to go IMO to truly get a sense of what you should expect with the game.
Because to a lot of people including a lot of posters here, the gameplay isn't an issue and the gameplay plays fine

I have this O'Driscol guy in the barn in the beginning on the ground. I guess I'm supposed to tune him up, but all it's asking me to do is focus on him and no other button does a thing. Am I missing something or did I hit a bug?

Damn, that was crazy.

Drove back up to GameStop to exchange my Special Edition (it had no Special Edition code and had two pre-order codes) and they had to open seven other copies before they found one with the right code inside. That entire batch of copies were screwed up and had double pre-order codes and no Special Edition codes.

Whatever person/machine was packing up that batch screwed up biiiiig time. Now that store is opening every single Special Edition before handing it to the customers, what a headache. All those busted copies. Damn. Feel bad for those lads. Imagine they're gonna have some very angry customers once they run out of proper Special Editions and have only busted ones left that don't have the goodies.

I played RDR1 honorably since John always struck me as a decent guy deep down, but Arthur seems like a motherfucker. I think I'm gonna go black hat.

The chapter 2 mission 'A Quiet Time' might just be the greatest mission I've ever played in a videogame. Simply amazing. I can't stop laughing.

I'm still very early, but I really like hot they introduced John Marston.

I thought he was going to be Arthurs very good friend and looked up to him, but it seems they do not like each other much. Should create for a very interesting dynamic through the game

I admit the controls really feel clunky and absolutely need time to get used to but the thing is that it's very fitting and serves a purpose.
With this focus on realism and seriousness it wouldn't make sense for Arthur to run around like a 20 year old athlete. It would take you out of the immersion that this game wants to build. This realistic and cinneastic experience would really be ruined if the gameplay didn't match.

So in the early parts of the game where you and the group are walking I was just walking around with my horse in a crazy way, acting a fool, bothering my friends by running past em and just acting like a idiot really.

One of them said something along the lines of "what are you all running crazy around for?". That impressed me for sure.

I'm usually not a huge HDR person, because I find it hurts my eyes after a few minutes or seems too dim and bothers me. Anyone else feel that way? Wondering how the Xbox One X HDR will fair for me. I'll find out soon enough, just looking for some opinions.

I know I have said almost nothing but negatives but there is no denying that this is likely the best looking game ever made, particularly on the X.

So how do bandanas work? Because I wore mine while robbing the backroom of a shop and wore it throughout the entire escape sequence, but when I went back to town with it off, the sheriff still recognized me. The rest of the town didn't, but lawmen still did.

Played for five hours last night, some impressions:

I like how the controls feel. I like that it feels more like operating a marionette than a traditional action game. I like that Arthur feels heavy and movements are imperfect. The Kotaku review really nails it saying the controls "perpetuate the convincing illusion of an unknowable parallel world."

Call me crazy, I actively like "tap x to sprint" and I'm not just being contrarian. It keeps the game moving at a slower pace when not running, grounds Arthur in the world more, then feels intense when you have a reason to sprint.

Shooting is solid. I'm playing with Free Aim and have no complaints. Need more time with it but I'm comfortable saying it's probably the best shooting in an open world Rockstar game.

I really like the melee system. It's so simple -- just attack and block -- but the animations take it to the next level. Can't wait to go pick some fights.

Still early, but the conversation function was overblown for sure. I'm a white hat and nearly every conversation is over after I *Greet* and the NPC *replies*. Another press of the Greet button just yields a "welp, seeya later" statement.

Lastly, smdh at anyone saying "I hate GTA, should I buy this?" The answer is no. GTAV is one of the best selling games of all time. Why would R* feel a need to radically alter their philosophy about how these games should feel and function?

So this was probably addressed before but is anyone else having problems with the dueling in this game? I keep pressing L2 but dead eye won't trigger. I have to switch to the alternate controls just to get it to work.

I hate it when tutorial hints are one and done.

One popped up explaining what I think was about tracking challenges but I paused as it came up and then it was just gone.

saw this tweet, an interesting thought. Does anyone here agree?

Absolutely agree. A lot of things in here are intended to be realistic in the hopes of making things more immersive but instead end up repeatedly dragging you out of the experience. For example changing clothes because your character might get too hot is realistic but instead of feeling immersive, it comes across as another game mechanic I have to deal with and takes me out of the experience.

I haven't slept yet - still playing 17 hours later. My playtime is probably closer to 13-14 hours though because of breaks and food. Says I'm 23% done with the story and 20% done with overall completion. Crazy!

Posts like this make me feel old!
I had to give up at around 3 am yesterday and today I'm tired.
Still .. I'm going to play again when the kids are in bed.

20 years ago I could do an all-nighter without much side effects..

I'm at 6% :)

It's completely different to how RDR1 works. Basically what you do is softly hold R2 for as long as you can until you're ready to fire in which case you pull it down all the way, aim at your opponent and shoot. Felt a bit weird at first but I like it.

Already contributed over 250 dollars to the gang lol, just got a trophy for it. Better get something good out of it soon!

I'm already wearing all black going full asshole sunglass emoji

Holy shit dude get some sleep, your health is more important than any game.
Thanks for the concern but it sounds worse than it is. I'm using this game as a distraction to reset my sleep pattern after doing back to back animation work for clients in America and Australia. Gotta get back on British time quick before more work next week so just staying up for a few more hours and then I should wake up at a normal (local) time tomorrow.

Noticed I could antagonize my own gang. First thing I do is track down Strauss.

Arthur: You sicken me.

Strauss: Not this again.

Had me a chuckle. Think I choose to pick on this guy every time I come to camp. Gotta bully the neeeeeeeeerd.

Nope. I love every second of it.

Only played 2 hours so far but the opening is really strong. I was immediately intrigued by the characters and all the drama surrounding them. Also having the player first control the game right in the middle of a desperate situation is a great way to show who everyone is and how they matter to eachother.

First chapter done. What a fucking experience it already has been. I have no issues with the controls or the gunplay, and I'm really really digging the writing so far. The atmosphere is amazing. This feels so much more than just RDR with updated graphics.

Posts like these have pushed me over the edge and now will buy. I grew really bored fast of the first one but I'm going to give this a chance now since fellow peers are raving about it

Thanks for the input.
