With the hubbub over the recent release of Rockstar Games' latest open-world epic, Red Dead Redemption 2, it's brought to mind how consistent a developer Rockstar has been over the years. Of course, that's despite them having only been releasing only two franchises, Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto, over the last five years. Obviously, with Red Dead now in the books, fans will likely be gearing up for the inevitable Grand Theft Auto VI, which is very likely to not even make this generation of hardware, making this the first since the 16-bit era to not have an GTA released exclusively for it (port of V notwithstanding). But it also brings to mind a time when Rockstar wasn't just the Red Dead and GTA machine it is today, but came out with a wide variety of software, from shooters to racing games to even survival horror, but all with the developer's trademark edged humor, flippant sarcasm, and of course, plenty of style - and occasionally some brutal violence. Max Payne, Midnight Club, LA Noire, Bully, Manhunt, and hell, even a Table Tennis game have come to store shelves with the Rockstar logo pasted to the front, and I'm wondering....which of these games would fans like to see make a return?

Isnt Bully 2 heavily rumoured?

Bully 2 is in the works.
The rumors that suggested that weren't exactly from reputable sources, and given Rockstar's lack of interest in the IP since the last game's release, I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think Rockstar is interested in games that aren't guaranteed megahits, so that likely pretty much rules out anything other than GTA and RDR at this point. I'd love to see it happen, but I find it incredibly unlikely.

I've been wanting a new smuggler's run for so long.
I'd take smaller and more diverse games from rockstar over these huge games with tons of crunch time.

Given the probably 5-6 years until GTA VI's release, I'm sure we will see R* return to at least one other franchise in the meantime.

Hopefully they still have space for Bully 2 and a new Max Payne game.

Imagining the gruesomeness of a Manhunt game on current gen gives me the willies. Bully 2, rumors or no, would definitely be interesting especially given the current atmosphere of cyberbullying.

Still waiting for Agent.
it's crazy that they still haven't officially cancelled it or taken it off their website.

red dead revolver wasn't exactly a mega hit either yet rdr happened. they can turn bully into a huge series with a sequel, if they want to.

Don´t know man.

It seems like they have consolidated all their formally independent studios into one giant machine.

Given the incredibly long dev cycles it is hard to see them doing anything but GTA and RDR for the next two decades.

Wouldn't a strong factor be what Sam and Dan Houser want to do?

If they say they have a great idea for a new Bully who would dare tell them no?

They reportedly had been wanting to make Agent for a long time. It wasn't a new concept when it was announced for the PS3. But I think a big issue now is that they've entered a point with their games where it basically takes an entire generation for a game to be completed. So I think even if they did want to make Bully 2, they'd have to factor in the possibility that GTAVI wouldn't release until some time around 2026 or so because their games are taking longer and longer to develop now.

The only Rockstar franchise I care about is still Lemmings, so I expect I'll be waiting a while. (Tho I wouldn't complain about a new Uniracers either.)

I would kill for a new Max Payne. Doesn't matter if we play a protege and Max is the mentor, but a game stylized as Max Payne with updated gameplay from MP3 is what I'd kill for.

I said kill twice. I don't mean it.

Maybe I do.

I'm with you there. Would really love it to happen, and could be a good game for them to do that could not require as huge of an investment of a GTA. As long as they keep the smaller more focused scope of the first game, which is part of the reason I really want another. A smaller "world" that feels more personal and smaller scale story.

I think a smaller project like Agent or Bully 2 is actually more likely than GTAVI at this point due to where we're at in the current console release cycle. I think that the window for GTAVI to realistically release at this point would put them well into whatever the next gen looks like.

My two cents.

No. GTAVI is their next AAA game that isn't a re-release or remaster. It'll go:
-RDR2 online
-pc RDR2 release
-next gen RDR2 release
-RDR2 online expansion(s)
-GTAVI
Over the next 5-7 years

Sounds right. Bully 2 would blow my mind—that's like my Shenmue 3, my Last Guardian. It's so incredibly unlikely. But it would blow my damn mind.

Chinatown Wars 2 for the 4DS or bust.
Separate it from the GTA franchise, just like the Mana games did with FF, it deserves to stand on its own.

Want Max Payne 4 but would like to see them do something totally new to be honest.
I feel like a modern Bully or Manhunt would essentially be something new. I'm really curious to see how they'd iterate on those games. There have been plenty of titles since that share some of those games' DNA, but no verifiable spiritual successors that I know of.

They're both pretty unique IPs.

Saw someone talk about the idea of a college-based Bully in another thread, which is really interesting. There's a lot you could do there, plenty of tropes to riff on in Rockstar style.

Bully 2 is not happening. If it was in development I'm sure it's been scrapped. Not an ideal time to make a game about school bullying.
