Alright we're good then. I'm not a fan of hyperbole. The games are still well made even if you don't like them. Call Sonic Boom trash if you want.
They're literally the only RPGs with field puzzles, aside from Pokémon. I don't know why more devs don't put adventure/puzzle elements to their RPGs, they make games less repetitive and boring.
That orb thing and blitzball in FFX doesn't count, ya?

I wouldn't say Golden Sun is trash but I remember it being considered pretty generic and by the numbers at the time by RPG vets, while it was propped up by nintendo-only folks or younger people who played it as one of their first RPGs since it was one of the first notable ones on a nintendo system in a time when they were considered a precious commodity.
I haven't replayed it since it came out so I don't know where I stand on it but I remember enjoying it at the time. I didn't find the characters all that interesting though so Isaac in smash doesn't personally excite me, but I guess he'd bring some dope tracks with him lol

Puzzles? All you did was to remove orb and place orb. No brain was needed.
That DS game had no puzzles at all. But was a very solid RPG, I wish it wasn't ignored by many.
I mean you had to figure out where to place the orbs. So yes it was a puzzle.
Shivas temple and Bevelle required more. And if you wanted the chest that's one more thing to solve.

Odd enough only "PapaGenos" has been the only one who claims the leak is real (plus Incineroar), while taking full responsability and actually showing his face.
I'd be lying if I said the music he would bring isn't one of my main motivators for wanting him in the game.
The Mystic person on Twitter at first was on board saying it was real. Then like 15 hours later they said they were contacted by people and placed the rumor from "real" to "unconfirmed".
Let's think about this. What do insiders have that make someone say "it's real" to not real. Is it really just Incinceroar?
This. When people point out other examples of the sprout shape, it's not really to suggest that it might be the sprout from Paper Mario, or Streetpass, or Animal Crossing, or whatever. It's just to point out that it's an extremely common symbol used in media because it's a common symbol found in nature. Literally just put "sprout" in google images and most results that come back will look like the Smash item. Jumping so quickly to Golden Sun when it's not even an exact match for either of the growth psynergy sprites feels pretty ridiculous.
The premise that they would include a growth psynergy item along with Isaac also feels weird to me? If Isaac were to have plant powers in his moveset, like most people expect he would, why also add an item that uses plant powers? Seems redundant to me.

Admittedly I've only played the first one, but I would never say that I hate Golden Sun because that implies that it's a really bad or offensive game when it's really just very dull and mediocre. The djinn thing that it has is a neat idea that isn't utilized very well and mostly amounts to occasionally switching them around to get past the same few puzzles the game has. The dungeons themselves aren't very interesting with its puzzles or aesthetic. The combat system is very basic and exploitable, which would be fine but battles, even random battles, take way too long to finish so you spend way too much of the game with a battle system that isn't fun or rewarding.
The story is paced very poorly, often with really long overwritten cutscenes where characters exchange little of importance. I'm actually underselling just how long and dull Golden Sun's cutscenes are because they are borderline painful to sit through. The game feels really padded for content which is extra insulting when the game ends without resolving any of the plotlines it sets up and then wants you to pony up an extra $30 to get the complete story. That always seemed really scummy to me I'm surprised more people didn't complain about that. The characters are pretty one note and forgettable. Besides Isaac I forgot every single one of the main party's names. There was Isaac, hot headed best friend, shy boy, and healer girl. I think that also summed up the entirety of their characterization.
I could go on like how you need a guide to get all the djinn, but I think that covers most of the problems. When I say "joyless slog" I don't mean that it's completely miserable to play, just that it's very unengaging to the point where playing often feels like a chore.
IDK, I don't trust PapaGenos at all. I've watched some of his videos while watching Ultimate content on YT (you know, the recommendations bla bla) and he basically does a video about almost any new rumor about SSBU trying to convince the viewers that is true or at least being really optimistic about all of them.

I don't think speculation is ridiculous, but saying "speculation" is all that happened when this thing was found is quite the misrepresentation. There are still people talking like this is hard confirmation for Isaac, and those are the people I'm referring to.
I just find odd that's theres suddenly so much sources. If so many people knew about this "leak", how is that nobody leaked it before the actual render? Its just weird. And know there's sources from even Microsoft itself? a complete banner with so many new characters plus Incineroar just a month before the actual release? and ANYBODY of these amount of "insiders" and "sources" leaked ANYTHING AT ALL? Yeah, this gotta be a first. Either that or the leak is a fake and people are just riding on it to gain followers, including this PapaGenos that probably just got a bunch of new suscribers
I'm not gonna lie, it was one of my first JRPG but I replayed recently (after playing a lot of JRPG) and I still think the second one is great, first one is cool but don't capitalize enough on its strong points imo. The main draw of these games I think are the dungeons, especially for the second one which I think have the best dungeons in a JRPG you can find with great puzzles and musics. Also, GS2 structure is kinda special, it feels the game is divided on 3 parts and on each part you get to explore a huge part of the world while the game don't give you a lot of hints on where to go next. Basically, it's extremely recommended to wander everywhere in the world to find new items or psynergy in order to progress in the story and that's probably the best thing I can say about my recent playthrough, it's just amazing travelling the world. Honestly, nailing that well a feeling of adventure in a GBA is something impressing on it's own and I want more JRPG that feels the same.
But honestly I can't lie, I want Isaac especially for some GS reprensation, I would prefer Felix or Jenna design-wise but as long as I have my fighter with psynergy and the musics of this game, I will be already happy.
Some are definitely bogus, others are probably coming out of the woodwork because the leak wasn't getting deconfirmed on its own, as most do.
That'd be more worthy of praise if the field puzzles were particularly good. Like Pokemon field puzzles aren't very good either, but they're usually just skill gates to make sure you have the right thing to pass through. Golden Sun is about the same level but with skills you've had for the entire game. So to me it felt like, "oh, I need the growth spell, okay I used it. puzzle solved".

I mean he's not someone who really ever had inside information. He's just a normal dude looking at leaks and giving his thoughts on it in a video. Only difference is in the follow-up video where he was contacted by a source who corroborated the leaks. I don't really go to his or other YouTubers videos and go "I trust this" since 99% of them aren't presenting any exclusive info. Just their opinion like the posts here on ERA.
Like i said, this gotta be a first. Usually leaks are debunked within 1 or 2 days (people usually find something that's messed up), thats how it is. If a leak its actually real, well..it just don't get desconfirmed until it actually (don't) happen. I like to bring the Ryce leak about MVCI because its similar. He managed to bring up the info by itself weeks before the game was announced, with various details, and a lot of things, and while people did believe him, many other didn't (including communities like SRK or Eventhubs). He ended up being confirmed by other "people that knew things" but only after he put the original info. on NeoGAF back in the day. Ryce didn't compromise anybody, nobody got fired, nobody got harassed. Nothing. I remember when MVC3 Uncanny Edition was rumored, it was disconfirmed in like hours. When MVC4 was supposedly leaked, it was also disconfirmed within hours (the original shop maker say it was him), and the MVCI update to MVC4 has Vergeben at his only source, and even Ryce, the leaker of the original MVCI, say that he didn't knew anything about a update for MVCI

I think all 3 Golden Sun games are fantastic, never understood the hate Dark Dawn got. Only real flaw the games had was not auto redirecting melee attacks if an enemy died. With how the game was designed though you really should mostly be casting psynergy in combat anyways.
I think people don't want to leak it because they don't want to ruin the surprise of the characters.
It's the same with Star Fox GP from Retro. Lots of media outlets heard Retro was making that game earlier this year, but none of them came out and said it. Once someone broke the news (4chan?), then the media came out and said "yep our sources heard this too".
Insiders are quick to say when they heard something is real like with Star Fox GP, but may not want to break it first because they don't want to spoil it.
So bored of insiders lol. It's always the same "yeah I know everything but I can't tell you literally anything" shit. I don't understand the point anymore
The criticism against Golden Sun kind of reminds me of the general negativity behind K. Rool being in Smash. Seems kind of strange.
My main issue would be that Golden Sun is a bit too chatty with the dialogue. The battle system, collectable Djinn, interesting puzzles and stellar OST make it one of my favorite JRPG series ever. Which makes it a such a bummer that it's likely dead. A rep from that game being in Smash would be fantastic.
In general I've always hated that.

Also am I the only one who likes Primarina? They're my fav Starter pokemon along with the Chimchar line and the Chikorita line.
It's not the case for the 2nd GS for having played them back to back. There are more dungeons that actually want you to try to think a little bit.
But there are other JRPGs with puzzle such as Valkyrie Profile (great dungeon design btw), some Tales of (less good) and the Lufia series.
The Star Fox GP, IIRC, was confirmed first by an user on ERA/GAF wasn't it? then Eurogamer confirmed that the game was indeed real, but ended up not being announced, at least so far. Then theres cases of games like the Suicide Squad/ Damian Wayne game by WB Games that was supposedly cancelled and has only 1 original source.
But this Smash Bros. crap has so many people saying different things, plus the banner that hasn't been debunked & etc. Like i said, gotta by a first. And if people don't want to leak to not to ruin the surprise, then i'm a monster of a person, because i just cannot bring myself up to think that so many different people knew this and nobody say a thing at all :(

I don't think it was that they didn't "spoil" anything that media outlets didn't talk about Star Fox GP, after all it's news and they're journalists it's their job to report on it. I think it was that while they heard things it wasn't definite enough to where they felt comfortable reporting it. It was only after someone else mentioned it and it was being picked up and talked about that media outlets mentioned they heard similar things but with heavy disclaimers.
This is like exactly how I feel. My one criticism is they can talk a lot. All Camelot needs to do is less writing. I'm doing them a favor.
I think Dark Dawn had even more dialogue and kind of games the wind out of the sails.
