Lo Mein is my favorite, but my stomach doesn't like it much. So now I get Sauteed Veggies with Chicken.

Xianggan rousi - shredded pork and bean curd, wood ear or bamboo shoots. It refrigerates well and is tasty if you wanna go healthy and ditch the rice and instead do lettuce wraps with it as the filling

Sweet and sour chicken with shrimp fried rice and a side of scallops is the go to

Every now and then I'll switch up and get sesame, bourbon or honey chicken maybe shrimp lo mein to replace the rice

I got a great place nearby that delivers

I get "Spicy Sichuan Boiling Fish" and then something like Broccoli Chicken.

And then, if they have a discounts or coupons, I'll get braised beef with noodles or pork belly.

Sometimes a mushroom or lamb dry pot, if I'm really feeling like something spicy.

But usually I'll also get hot and sour soup along with the order.

Chicken & Broccoli w/ Pork Fried Rice
Shrimp Egg Rolls

Pro tip: Get the spicy mustard packets and the hot sauce packets from the Chinese restaurant. Mix them together (2 mustard to 1 hot sauce) and dip egg rolls in it.

I tell you want I don't get. Those pork eggrolls with the bits of bubblegum inside that is supposed to be pork.

Pork is not hot pink, fool.

Man, I eat Chinese whenever I want and I've still don't know what General Tso is.

For western Chinese food, I really like either Singapore Fried Rice, Malaysian Curry or Salt and Pepper Beef.

I live in Taiwan, and get the best duplings in the entire word as often as possible DIN TAI FUNG BITCH

pork-soup-dumpling.jpg

Nice. I like Din Tai Fung's xiaolongbao, but find their everything else kind of lacking and expensive :(.

As for the OP's question, I live in Taiwan as well, so I'm going to go with:

Rouzaofan (braised pork sauce rice):

Three Cup Chicken:

Gua bao (pork belly open bun):

But really there are a lot more and I eat Chinese like five nights a week so it's all a blur.

I'm allergic to most seafood, so I don't trust that there won't be crossing contamination in Chinese food. So I avoid it completely. Am I being paranoid?

There are a few of us on resetera, but yeah I'm an expat. Most other foreigners I know either love rouzaofan, or simply haven't tried it yet. Sweet, salty, shallot-y, fatty, there's nothing not to like. Damn I'm hungry now.

I feel like, if you live near a rouzaofan place, a breakfast shop, and a (good) bian dang lunchbox place, you're pretty much set for good, cheap food forever. Maybe a hot pot and a sushi place, too, just to round things out.

Singapore noodles (sometimes goes as Singapore mai/mei fun or lo mein fun) with hot chili oil is my new go-to.
singapore-mei-fun-th1-1.jpg

Whaaaa, where can I get this???

Awesome thread as I just had Chinese food tonight. Chow mein, orange chicken, and teriyaki chicken (used to to beef and broccoli but changed it up after a while). Not Panda, but an actual Chinese place that's setup akin to Panda. Tastes way better and I don't feel like shit after.

Nice to know there are a bunch of expats here :) I've been here 5 years now, still love the place. and agreed, i'm weird though, I don't like fat, or bones, so I'm really picky about where I get my lunchboxes from.

Gonna join in the "I live in China/Taiwan" crowd. There are a million great dishes here but lately my staple has been kao rou fan. BBQ pork or chicken and veg over rice with a boatload of spice. It's dirt cheap, fast, tasty as hell and delivered straight to my door for my lazy ass to enjoy after work. Other staples are curry chicken rice from the HK chain restaurant or some good ass Lanzhou la mian beef noodles. That Chinese Muslim food has incredible flavor. For Sichuan food I like fu qi fei pian. Not for everyone though if you're not into organ meat.

Let's be real though. As an American in China I do miss the hell out of some panda express. It's not real Chinese food and I don't give a fuck. Beijing beef & orange chicken with some chow mein is god-tier among trashy fast food.

That's tough; any meat that's not sushi here is bone city. I admit I don't always feel like dealing with them and will use chicken breasts to make what my Taiwanese roommate calls "white people sanbeiji" sometimes, though.

And I feel like it's normal to be really picky about breakfast and lunchbox shops here. It's just as easy to find a bad, greasy place as it is to find a good, digestible place, unfortunately.

yup! I have to say I've never understood the love of leg meat here and total disregard of breast meat. chicken burgers for example in KFC burgers are just gloopy and totally awful in comparison to UK kfc burgers. (sorry for talking about KFC in this thread!)

I rarely get Chinese because takeout is pricy but I love getting sweet and sour chicken lunch combo that includes pork fried rice, a bunch of chicken and rice for only $5. Also I adore the local chow mein you can only get in my area, pork strip chow mein is delicious.

I like to order sweet-sour pork and any kind of fried noodles I'm in the mood for that day.

Not really sure what I'm getting though, to be honest.

It may depend on where you live but it goes by a couple of the names I've mentioned.
If it's not on the menu, you may just have to be persuasive. I'm pretty sure it's more of a traditional meal - but, someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm Korean living in LA so I order Korean version of Chinese food, either Jja jiang myun (hand pulled noodles with black bean and pork sauce) or Cham pong (spicy seafood noodle soup) with Tang Soo Yook (Sweet and sour Pork).

It depends on the type of Chinese food it is. General Tso's if it's a more Americanized type of place
