Confirmation that it's a remake rather than a remaster has me super pumped! I never played MediEvil back in the day but it always seemed like something I'd enjoy.

About to dig into the podcast now ^_^

Someone wasted a question with the tired "how to get into games industry" question.

Meanwhile real important matters like when we getting a PS characters kart racer remained unclear. SMH.

Being an in-company interview, the questions are clearly filtered already - Shawn knows what the questions are he wants to openly give a response to and came in with prepared answers.

At least Sony have to be aware at this point that fans want them to fund a JRPG. Whether they acquire a studio in the process of doing that isn't necessarily important.

An original game from Bluepoint ? Oh shit :O

Not surprising considering Bluepoint confirmed that they are working on both a remake more ambitious than SOTC and their own original IP earlier this year in an interview with Eurogamer. This is why many believe the remake will be a cross gen game and they will likely partner with Sony on creating a new IP.

Well Astro Bot dropped back to an 89 on MC thanks to an 80 from PlayStation Magazine UK. Might not get back to a 9 now.

Whether they acquire new Japan studio or completely build from the ground up for new JRPGs, I'm looking forward to it.

Why people want Sony to buy studios? Most of the games are coming to PS anyway.
I'm okay with creating new ones or expanding existing studios.
JRPG/RPG partnerships can come from 3rd party. Like BB or Spider-Man

in terms of JRPGs, yes we get a lot of them trough 3rd Party Studios. However most JRPGs are Low Budget ones with last gen graphics and tech - Square Enix, like Layden said, is the big exception here.

I just wanna see a JRPG with Sonys Handwriting when it comes to wrting, the tech and the audience in mind.

Forming a JRPG Studio by Sony would be very promising, but i can totally understand if they don't do it tough

It's not bad ofc. And it's a smart think to do actually
I just don't like the idea of buying a multiplatform dev and turning them into the exclusive one
Sony has a history of buying studios who have made successful exclusives that have helped define and evolve their brand of gaming and can be considered a real partner. They also build their own studios. That is respectful and it's why an Insomniac, Ready At Dawn or Bluepoint Games acquisition would make 100% sense and not even be questioned.

Microsoft just buying studios that they've never really had any kind of partnership or prior rapport with and now those games are never going to come out on anything other than their platform, is just... nasty way of doing business in my view, and a really inorganic way to go about it.

Dunno. Most of the devs they bought made exclusive games for them. Only NT and Compulsion never made an exclusive before. So I think that most of the MS expansion is fine

More games, especially great JRPGs are definitely welcome.

World Wide Studio could add one more to exclusively develop JRPG for a start.

I mean...

Sure there are great 3rd party games.

Excluding emulators, currently you could have one way to play an Octopath Traveler or Xenoblade.

If the new studio could add to the par developing those new games quality wise, and exclusively, then at least it adds the value of the console.

Their JRPG IPs currently on mobile.

And they didn't have localization yet... /: (

Things are sometimes easily distorted or era. To the point where anyone in this thread who thinks Sony need to buy more studios isn't looking at the bigger picture. Personally I'd prefer the studios they already own to expand to two in house dev tems as opposed to buying anyone who is willing to sell. Insomniac, Ready at Dawn, Bluepoint make sense to me. Those other studios, not so much. SOny are not in a position where announcing that they actually have game studios to make games for your platform, become an E3 announcement.

Sony doesn't need to buy Insomniac Games, their two best selling- as well as critically acclaimed franchises (Ratchet & Clank and Spider-Man) are both Playstation exclusive franchises.

Going forward, now more than ever, Insomniac Games will act, function and be treated like a Sony 1st party studio. I'm also confident, that Sony will fund whatever AAA project they decide to do next.

Unlike Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, Medievil will be exclusive right? So Sony didn't give up its IP? If so why don't they start a reboot or make sequels then?

Looking forward to watch the trailer on halloween. I hope the graphics will be better than Crash Bandicoot and Spyro which alreayd look great.

A full remake would be a pretty big project. I think they will test the IPs appeal first before they sink loads of resources into it.
