For those who have experience with both, when you pre-load a game on xbox does it have to do a decryption process similar to steam? In the past it's been quicker for me to just download the game once it released than for steam to decrypt the game. I know it's not an one to one comparison, just trying to get a general idea.
No, you do not need to decrypt or install anything after downloading.

I loved RDR 1 and it's the only Rockstar game I've ever completed. That being said, everything you are saying here is the reason I couldn't finish GTA4 and 5 and your review is exactly why I haven't pre-loaded this game yet. I've been waiting to get a true assessment from real players and not blow hards like most of the media outlets who seem to exist just to suck the Housers dicks and give R* a 10 every game. Fuck that.

The Polygon review was the only review I've seen that is not glowing. Props to them.

I won't give them a click but what's their issue? Politics or actual game related?

No he's talking about the whole thing. The patch downloaded in like 15-20 min during the data disk install for me.

Yep, took about 15 minutes on my PS4Pro to download the patch while the data disc were installing.

I would assume for many people, depending on your internet connection, the patch should be downloaded before the disc installs are even done..

So preload unlocks at 11, then it goes straight into the game, or does it install (xbox 1)?

Is there a way to pull the day 1 patch early before the preload opens?

Haven't been able to keep up with news due to work today but I'm close to finish the download for the digital version (92GB), is that it or do I have to download something else after? If so how big is it?

ND's animations are good but they still feel canned sometimes. R*'s animations feel more physics based and interact more with the environment.

I wouldn't take my post as fact, it's just how it feels to me.

Canned? No idea what that means.

My point is it's a game and it's supposed to be fun. Realism and good physics can be fun, but should never go at the cost of smooth controls. One of the main reasons I ditch R* games after a few hours in. They feel like working instead of playing. ND understand this better than any other developer.

The control scheme is also baffling. What are they, Japanese? Circle for reloading? L3 for crouch? Who came up with this crap? Can we at least remap the buttons outside of the PS settings? Probably not.

It controls like your typical R* open world game :). So clunky in ways but serviceable and it could be better, but unfortunately that's not the case here.

It's a shame it's not better, it has a heavy feeling, and feels like it can't respond fast enough to your button press.

I played more than 3 hrs and I'm having a rest now.

I'm trying to get me head around the new systems they have introduced, like heat, hunger, cores and such. They all sound a bit confusing and all the button presses you have to do. They should have taken a more simpler approach to navigating around menus and interacting with the game world.

Can't wait to immerse myself into this world. I am definitely into a realistic simulator. Been craving for something like that and RDR2 seems to fit that bill.

My point is that the guy's in the minority, and you were holding him up as if to say that his experience is somehow exemplary.

At any rate, saying that they "control like pure dogshit" is nothing but blatant hyperbole. At the very least, their control scheme is serviceable. It obviously favors animation over player input from time to time, and if that's just a no go from you, then fine.

Besides, it controls far better than GTAV did, from my experience. It's still in the same vein, but it's a better version of it.

They don't have "unresponsive controls". RDR for example was lauded for its horse controls back in the day. Again, they favor animation over player input a lot more than other games do, but that's a choice they've made, and given the reception and astounding success of literally every one of their games, they clearly doing something right here.

Bottom line is, you're never going top zip around breaking animation mid cycle in a Rockstar game, so you might as well get used to it. I did, and it hasn't bothered me since RDR.

I remember a mission in GTAV that almost made me chuck my controller out of the window. It was a motorcycle chase mission where I had to kill X random guy but I had to catch him first. I must've tried that one stupid mission maybe 10 times because I'd always miss a turn due to unresponsive controls and I'd literally go flying off the side of the road and then have to back track to try and catch up to him, crashing and killing pedestrians and setting off police wanted levels constantly until I ultimately failed the mission. It's just not fun and the only reason it's "challenging" is not because the mission design was challenging or well designed, it was because the controls sucked so bad that it made it damn near impossible to complete it.

This one example wasn't my first rodeo with R*'s shitty controls so to read his impressions that you move like a "tank" and aiming was a pain in the ass makes me think as BEAUTIFUL and detailed as RDR2 is that it's got those same recurring issues that's in every R* game and that's what has held me back from really enjoying games like GTA4 and 5 to it's fullest.

To expand on my first statement - I consider RDR1 one of my favorite games ever made. But I'm going to wait and see more impressions from actual players here and see if it's worth diving in on this one.

Is it just me or is the hdr support kind of bad? It's washed out looking even though the color is better balanced in general. The red on the menu is pretty pale compare to the RDR red.

Thay sounds extremely stupid. Why would you not play the sequel to your favorite game ever? I guess you're poor?

Best Buy wouldn't let me pick up my copy despite me ordering at noon when they were running an ad promoting 'buy it now pick it up at 9pm', wonderful

If you have decent internet for the love of god do it. This 90-120 minute install on the disc is brutal

Haha, that's what I've started reading on Reddit and stuff. That's quite the wait.

I know a couple people would probably be a bit mad if I didn't buy it physically though. I loan them my games to play when I'm not playing 'em. I'll just continue debating lol

You can change the control scheme in the game settings.
