It's fair to say that the pro should and cloud be putting up a much better fight than the numbers suggest. One needs to look no further than Horizon. I honestly think pro owners are rightfully upset.

well horizon is a first party game.. but i type this as I'm playing on a pro and the game is stunning. I feel like a lot of the "image quality" complains only rear their head when blowing up the image 1000% for a side by side comparison. Is the x version shaper? yes definitely. Is that sharpness noticeable in actual playing conditions? ymmv but for me, sitting about 1.5 metres from a 55inch tv, the answer is no.

The question isn't whether one is sharper than the other (X is), but rather would you notice if someone sat you down to play either version, and further more, would you notice enough to be completely dissatisfied with your purchase of perhaps the game of the generation?

The Ps4 Pro can achieve fantastic results in good hands.. clearly Rockstar wasn't the case.

Note that Spiderman runs at 1440p and checkboards to 4k. The image quality is perfect and the game runs fantastic.

The blame is on the developer.. not in the console itself.

First time I see a game where the number of vehicles is actually realistic. That's awesome, always wanted that in GTA, so you wouldn't constantly be driving all over the place, you'd sometimes end up in traffic jams, but they need to improve what you can do to still make it fun on foot.

I will be mightily impressed if it beats God of War .
Eh, I can't really put these things in a strict order. Horizon, God Of War, UC4 and Spider-Man are pretty much all on the same level for me, they each do different things better, I don't think you can really rank that.
The next game I expected to really be a step above everything else was The Last Of Us 2, but based on the first hour and a half I have played now, RDR2 might already be that step above.
We'll see how the rest of the game holds up.

Did you see the "X has 4K textures" thread?

I'm sorry for asking what has probably been asked many times before but does the PS4 Pro's bad checkerboard implementation also ruin the image quality on a 1080p display?

X looks really clear, what solution did Rockstar use that causes that weird effect on the PS version though? I have seen games on the Pro and base console with excellent IQ, is their engine implementation just not suitable to the hardware or was it a case of them working from PC and scaling downwards towards respective consoles and seeing what sticks?

They all look pretty good to be fair.

Just picked up my copy in the U.K. from Tesco's at midnight. FaceTimed a mate doing the same in another Tesco's 150 miles away.

What was interesting was in both stores, the crowd waiting, aside from being all blokes, was that they were overwhelmingly PS4 owners. All where I was and around a 25/1 split where my mate was. I recall going to the same store for the GTA V launch in 2013. Things were about even from what I remember looking at copies taken off the merch display. If this is indicative of wider ownership patterns, that is a huge disparity in PS4s favour.
The takeaway for me is that what I saw speaks for itself in how the generation has gone.
The XB1X version looks superb, and those of you who invested are in for a real treat.
The Pro is going to look fine when you get it on a screen. We're not talking ZX Spectrum levels of colour clash and crappy sound in version differences!
For the average customer the base PS4 is where the bulk of sales are coming from and baseline PS4 performance on RDR2 is dead on for an aging bit of hardware running such a technical behemoth .
Right now you can get a base PS4 with RDR2 for £249 on Amazon. That's a sweet spot and in my opinion, Sony have ridden the sweet spot all generation. Not best, not worst, just right.

Sony rinsing the RDR2 marketing they paid for in the push up to Christmas will ensure another tidy holiday period.

As a side thought, if things pan out like they did with GTA V, we'll be spending a lot more time in the RDR2 world on next gen machines anyway, so nobody panic! This is just the beginning.
I'm off to see how my install is progressing!

Me? this is my first post about it.. check God Of War if you want.. another perfect example that a good dev can do magic with any console. Clearly Rockstar is not the case.

Here you go.. look at devs doing magic on the Pro. This clearly looks better than RDR2.

Magic? who knows

I'm tempted to go but an X for this. The Pro looks blurry AF! It's completely playable but a bit frustrating.

Wow that really says something coming from you.

But I'm used to playing 4K games on PC so I noticed it immediately. I hope others aren't bothered much by it.

Oh that makes sense then. I experienced the same thing after playing enhanced games on the X and then going to something that isn't enhanced. The blurryness is super noticeable. Like last gen when I'd go from a 1080p game on PC to a sub 720p 360 game.

This is the thing, we aren't average customers ! I really am having a hard time stomaching just how closely the PS4 pro looks to a base PS4. Yes in the grand scheme of things this does not effect Sony and the majority of people are going to be playing on a base ps4 and not even caring or noticing that it looks like there's a coat of vaseline on their TV's, the same way some people are totally fine drinking cheap wine/larger and some people perfer IPA's, those people will notice the differing flavors and quality, many wouldn't care. Basically, I'm pissed at Sony and they really shouldn't be marketing the PS4pro as 4K at all.

They honestly deserve a huge amount of shit for this, but they won't get it sadly.

I thought Forza Horizon 4 had the best visuals of 2018, but after a couple of hours of playing this on Queen X, it's clear that RDR2 takes the title, probably the best looking game ever.

Didn't see anything in the OP but I have the game preloaded on my X and it's only 88.1 GB. Why isn't it showing the 4k texture size on top of that? Also the wait is unbearable... I wish it unlocked at 9pm central time.

You clearly have no idea what you talking about. Comparing two completely different games. Kudos.
Also this is not the thread, so please stop derailing the thread with these off-topic comparison.

Hows HDR on xbox one x?

It's apparently unspectacular. Haven't seen any specifics as to why though.

Both Pro and X supposedly have enhanced textures over the base consoles and all that stuff is already downloaded. When the X version unlocks the game size will increase somewhere between 108 and 116 GB iirc.

HDR looks pretty good on my 4K LG TV (PS4 Pro). Had to rise the HDR brightness to 330. Did compare it to SDR and definitely will stick with HDR mode. Blacks don't look washed out or crushed. But that probably really depends on your TV.

The PS4 Pro has a soft image I don't like that. Hopefully they patch it and remove the filter or checkerboard tech so we get a clean sharp image. If I like the game enough I'll get the XBX version too.

So I'm pretty sure it has a 1080p "performance" (still 30fps cap ofc) mode on PS4 Pro. Not blurry and very quiet fans. Don't notice any frame drops. Very pleased, after initially being worried by this thread earlier today!

Haven't tried forcing supersampling yet, though - but I doubt it would be running in Pro silent-mode, right?

Dark1x please consider testing and commenting on 1080p PS4 Pro mode in future videos. I realize it makes no sense for X1X, but PS4 games can still have different performance profiles it would seem.

Wow, I already own an Xbox One S and PS4, but seeing differences like this makes having an Xbox One X a little more tempting as months go by.

Extremely pleased with my decision to pre-order the game on my X months ago. I wasn't sure it'd turn out to be this good of a decision, but it's nice to see that my wager on the X over Pro worked out, as the PS4 exclusive content had me doubting myself for a minute lol.

As an owner of both consoles they both had a great 2018 and the Xbox 1X didn't end up being that far behind for me despite Sony having a sick year for exclusives.

PS4 Pro: Detroit, God of War, Spiderman and DQ11.

XBox 1X: RDR 1 and 2 in native 4K, Forza Horizon 4 and Horizon 1 BC 4k.

I'm a massive fan of Horizon and Red Dead so that skews it a little bit. Great year to own both for sure.

Couldn't agree more, I've had just far too many quality experiences on all three consoles, and I honestly can't imagine not having access to any of the three big game consoles right now, they're all just spitting fire recently. Awesome time to be a gamer, and as soon as Intel introduces some more competition to the GPU market I'll be pleased to upgrade my GPU for the first time in years, though I'll admit that recent PC component pricing trends have dampened how much I've been playing there. Still though, can't go wrong with any platform these days, compelling experiences everywhere, and that's just awesome to say.

Not really happy with how the Pro version looks in pics etc honestly. It has some of the weird dithering etc that reminds me this is still the same engine as GTAIV. Reminds me of how GTAIV looked on 360.

If setting the output to 1080P results in a "cleaner" image, I think that's what I will do. 1080P content looks quite good on my 4KTV.

Then again, it might be something that isn't so noticeable when playing yourself.

Rockstar is 3rd rate dev confirmed?

What i said is not even remotely close. The game looks phenomenal on pro as i see it right now. If i hadnt already bought an x if probably even be reconsidering right now.
Its just a poor choice of reconstruction technique.
If im not mistaken the actual resolution this game is running at is not that different from horizon, which looks absolutelty pristine after its own form of reconstruction.

Can you talk more about this? Does it have a selectable mode or did you set the PS4 output to 1080p?

Can anyone with a pro and LG 4K TV chime in here, does upping sharpness and 'super resolution' modes make the blurriness any better? my X1X can't come soon enough
