Alot of people are just seeing the blurry image and the fact it's implying 7 characters and no Pokemon and not looking into the bigger story.
Some people are just not invested in the Smash speculation scene so I can see why some people who aren't into that are just saying fake are just looking at the surface and saying fake. Also helps that alot of people in game's press also say fake
If it resembled some kind of sprout from GS, it'd be the overworld sprite for the ability. It doesn't really look anything like the icon for the spell.
But two leaf little green sprouts are so common, it could literally be anything. From a Puzzle Bobble green sphere to Leech Seed from Pokemon.

I mean, I'm on Team Fake, but I'll be incredibly happy if it's real. I just don't think it's real because I have faith our insiders have good reason for saying it's fake.
I also find it interesting that Mach Rider uses the arcade design rather than the grittier Melee trophy design. It seems like the kind of thing Sakurai would do to really sell the retro feel.

I really doubt people will be salty about suddenly getting seven new characters. Hell, I think it's fake but I'd be ecstatic to get Isaac and Chrous Kids.

Yeah, didn't even touch on that because it seemed obvious to me. The more I look at this, the more obvious it becomes it's real. I just cannot see a random troll leaker going so deep and creating something so good looking. This is legit professional level of detail seeking.
Despite me playing devil's advocate here I don't really care either way other than trying to find the objective truth here (which isn't goign to happen until confirmed so...). My hopes and dreams were already crushed when they confirmed Bomberman was an assist trophy. I'm still looking forward to the game but I personally have no desire to see characters like Geno or Chorus Kids playable, so I have no biases either way. If it was up to me I would've put Travis Touchdown, Kazuma Kiryu, Ameratsu, and other random shit in this game that nobody ever asks for, lol.

Honestly after the company mix-up for the supposed leaker and seeing pics of the equipment and proof of the software used there I've been thinking it's fake more than ever.
I think with the right tools, the right Nintendo knowledge, and artistic skill this can be done. If it DOES turn out real then I'll be happy but at the same time I'm expecting fake, which is ok too! The roster is already looking pretty good.

Yeah, this is what I said before. I think most people, prior to seeing that design, would expect the grittier grey design. However going for the more retro red and blue design seems exactly like something Sakurai would do. Plus then you've got the extra details for Isaac and the Conductor with the Chorus Kids. If this is fake, then whoever made it put a ton of thought into each design, much more than the average leak has for even just a single character.
Extremely witty dialogue, tight platforming controls, creative level design, fun challenges, and a lot of variety kept the games fresh through the whole run.
