One of the strange things about the leak it's how blurry the photo is. I mean the intent is basically "fuck Nintendo (in french)", so why is the photo so blurry?

ESRB leak this is not.
To be fair looking at the potential context why it's blurry gives it a decent out.

The question if it's fake is did they really try to stage a situation to give it an out for being blurry?

Has this been posted about the new item?

I'm really curious how the insiders reacted to the ESBR leak. The only thing I found today was the Gamexplain discussion.

If that's actually a Golden Sun item that seems like the biggest boon the Grinch leak could have.

Sakurai said to not expect many newcomers. He didn't say that there wouldn't be many newcomers.

Also, slowing down the pace of reveals is a really vague statement, because there has been no pattern to the reveals thus far. 1 new characters revealed when the game was revealed then 3 months later we got a newcomer and an echo, then 2 months later we got 2 newcomers and 3 echos, then a month later we got 1 newcomer. Does he mean there will be more time until the next reveal or there will be fewer characters to reveal?
So we're just saying not to take anything he says as truth at all?

Like, I get the man would want to surprise us since he seems to find the whole reveal cycle fun and engaging, but going from "don't expect much" to "he's just lying I'm sure there's a ton" is warped logic.

No. It's like one random person telling you you're going to be served a steak because somebody snap chatted him a blurry picture of what appears to be a steak on your plate, and then another person who happens to actually be both your bus boy and your waiter telling you that you're going to be served some cow shit and that they know for a fact the chef is plating in right now.

You may really want to believe you're getting the steak, and might have just enough info to convince yourself. But the sensible logic dictates you're getting a plate of cow shit.
You know I was joking, right? You seem weirdly invested in being as aggressive about this leak as possible.

The post from Reddit:

So some interesting things have came up. On a Discord server I'm in, a few of us have been discussing things about this leak. One topic was the 'Zelda spire' which doesn't seem to be present in the E3 background, but is in the E3 character mural. The same spire is shown on the empty leaked mural, and ArtsyOmni has stated it's not there, supposedly. However, using crappy MS Paint skills, it's clear that the spire IS there, but the actual spire is hidden behind Zelda. [The building next to it with the triangular roof is visible on the mural] (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/445084426133569538/505164013261553674/Zelda2.PNG)

Even more interestingly, a user on the same Discord server has shown a picture of what's supposedly the new item accidentally shown off, and [apparently it 100% is a Golden Sun item] (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DqYpAF6WoAEWeMw.jpg), with the [original for comparison] (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/445084426133569538/505164106387554314/unknown.png)

So I want to do something different. Let's start by saying I'm completely #teamreal, so I already believe this leak is legit.
I want to "prove" it not on a technical level, nor on a logical level, but I want to give my own personal impressions on why do I believe this is real on an artistic and thematic level. I'ms starting off by saying that I'm goint to give for granted, just for fun, that this is real and try to understand why the final banner is done like it is, trying to enter Sakurai's own mind. Yeah, whooooo. This is all entirely subjective and there is absolutely not a single fact behind it, it's driven by heart.

smashleakbanner.png

Here are the reasons why I think this is legit:

1) The picture is voluntarily extremely crowded, they want to pass the feel of a roster which is overwhelming and big. The first thing I'm noticing is that there is very little blank space between all the characters. As of right now, the banner shows some weird blank spaces in certain areas. The one I noticed the most is the area around Dark Samus. Look for example how many characters are around Bowser: I count nine characters that touch him, completely engulfing him. Dark Samus? Two: Sjulk and Pac-Man. Since its reveal it seemed odd that in the banner we would be able to see only the face of Bowser basically, but the entire render of Dark Samus was perfectly visible. In the leaked banner, everything is moved up to fill that space: Ness is closer, Jigglypuff is removed from the Pokémon Trainer (why is she there in the first place?), and of course there is Geno.
The same can obviously be said from the area under Mewtwo: now it's officially inhabited by only the Mii Gunner, which is weirdly enough dislocated from its two partners, but in the banner leak the king Banjo takes its place, moving the Gunner along with the rest. That Mii Gunner position screams placeholder.

2) Chorus Kids are paired with Pokémon Trainer, and not only. Let's not even consider the fact that the artwork implies the leaker actually knows about the franchise because of the tie thing, the real interesting fact is the inclusion of the director alongside the trio of the kids (generally depicted by themselves by other "leakers"). The fact that it's so close to Pokémon Trainer makes me think the Director is going to act similar: as a background character giving... directions to the kids which are going to be the actual playable characters. Their position is very interesting because it poses both the Trainer and the Director side by side, like they're going to simultaneously unleash their own army against someone (Wario). It's a very Sakurai and Nintendo thing to do.

3) Isaac's grass move. Again, a very specific reference that only someone with a general knowledge of Golden Sun would use (not me, for example), and also, thematically interesting in the banner. Who are two of the closest characters to Isaac? Snake and Olimar, both characters thematically tied to grass, seen often lurking inside it. Weak I know, but might as well.

4) You can see Falco and Luigi have been moved close together, and they both strike a similar pose like they are launching themselves in the air (they're over Bowser's head in the leak). Instantly reminded me of this:

super_smash_bros_003.0.jpg

Before, I never made the connection, but now the reference seems pretty clear.

5) Mach Rider on his bike. I 100% guarantee you a simple leaker would've depicted him holding a gun or something. The fact he's actually riding his bike in this banner makes me run wild with my imagination, and makes me think his moveset will actually be about him riding his bike the whole time. We are still missing a true WTF / joke character, and Mach Rider fits the bill. Something about him/her being so cool, yet so ridiculous, is Sakurai 101.

These are just a few thoughts, and nice touches that makes me believe this is true, and that a more generic leaker wouldn't have come up with. Or maybe I'm just too bored.

Well, every fake leak does the blurry thing to try for credibility.
It's not the fact that it's blurry that's the out. It's why the video is blurry why people are willing to overlook it.

If this dude was using a phone to Snapchat which will also lower the quality of the video on it's own and the video never had that big of a focus on the banner itself it makes sense why it is blurry beyond hiding the proper details of the artwork.

I don't know. Catch me up.
The guy had TWO LinkedIn profiles. Both with the same information, but two different companies. The older profile listed the company that made that statement. The newer profile has a different company that says he's worked there for a year and 8 months, which lines up with when the first company said he last worked for them, so what the company from that older profile says is pretty much irrelevant. What matters is what the company in the more current profile says.

Isaac was my ballot vote, I loved Golden Sun and I'm sure he would make for a very fun fighter with Psynergy, Djinns, Summons and the like.
I was very disappointed that he didn't even make it as AT for Smash 4 and If the "leak" is fake I will be a bit sad, not too much though since K.Rool and Simon/Richter are in which are other awesome newcomers.

Incineroar would be nice being my favourite Alola Starter and loving his design and inspiration, watching lots of Tiger Mask during my childhood probably helped cementing my judgment.
With the whole "heel" wrestler thing going on for him I'm sure he would make for a very nice fighter with interesting and fun moves.

Other fighters I wanted to see in were Bomberman ( which is now an AT) and something new for Zelda.
I may be a boring person wishing for Classic Pig Ganon but I also think that Skull Kid and Impa (Sheik Echo) could be great picks aswell.

This is the main reason I'm #TeamFake even though I love the contents of this leak and it's otherwise convincing.

I don't think these insiders (among them very reasonable ERA members) would continue to say it's fake unless the leaks they're privy are more compelling than the leaks we have here.

Since only they have access to both leaks (this Grinch leak, and whatever they have that's secret), only they can really decide between the two.

I don't think they'd double down on their old leak if they saw this new leak as more convincing. So there must be something notable about what they've been told vs. what we've seen.
This almost makes me want to help you lift something. But I still won't.

Imran may know some stuff, but again like I stated before GAMEXPLAIN ISN'T AN INSIDE SOURCE. Neither is Serebii. Attaching that label to them is just going to cause them to get harassed about stuff they have no idea about.

To give credit to Serebii, Pokemon is a close second behind Smash in producing an absolute flood of fake leaks before every new game. He has to parse all the bullshit from the real news all the time so I can't blame him for being skeptical.

Of course, him being skeptical is not at all proof of anything being fake, people should just be aware of what his job is when they criticize him for being reticent to getting on board with any rumors.

Upon closer inspection yeah the bubble in the Golden Sun pic is photoshoped, lol. But the symbol is the same symbol used.

However it doesn't outright confirm Isaac just that there's a Golden Sun item in Smash.

Is there any other franchise in the entirety of Smash that has an orb with a sprout in it as a major key... like anything? Icon, creature, magic, anything?

This is a massive game if it's not Golden Sun then what is it?

OH
Need a source for that. The plant made me think Golden Sun, but I never saw that symbol in a bubble or with a number before (never played Dark Dawn, though).

Does it have to be from an existing franchise? Couldn't it just be an original item?

I'm on fake's side but there's one thing that pulls me other side: Chorus kids. Chorus Kids have their conductor! There was rumors about them being in Smash 4 but all mockups and fanarts excluded the conductor. Just all three boys. Not only the conductor is there, it has his red tie, which was not completely visible in Rhythm Heaven games. This thing might be fake but the creator is definitely someone who never misses details.

I've seen people suggest it could grow into a Mario vine.

I'm leaning towards it being from Golden Sun though.

It's not even an item. It's a spell icon for Growth

I can't see them making a Psynergy spell, a spell tied to characters and not from an item, an in game item for Smash
