This comparison pretty much guarantees Microsoft will never let Sony out-power them again.
With the way these consoles are releasing now that will be hard for them to do... I don't see Sony/MS releasing next gen consoles so close to one another like they did with PS4/One. Sony will release the PS5 2019/2020 I don't see MS doing the same when the X is still fairly new

Wish the df video would have been in 4K, so I coulda got a better idea of how the pro version really looks.

Seems like rockstar should have just made the game 1440p on pro from the video.

Maybe, but this comment is a bit aggressive. I just think this is more rockstar doing magic then microsoft putting a hand in this. But hey Microsoft does have the more powerful console at the moment.

The reason MS wanted the more powerful machine is specifically for situations like these. Most people won't splinter off but portions of the enthusiast crowd will, and that is why MS have been trying to court back. The only reason base PS4 was able to outpower Xbox One was because MS intentionally aimed low with base XB1. Sony themselves intentionally aimed conservatively, MS just far more so

Baffling that this video isn't in 4k. I'm sure that would help reassure Pro owners... Not that it would compare more favorably to X, but that it is definitely a step up from Base PS4.

I wish I could see what the PS4 Pro looks like on a higher resolution than a 1080p video. I'm worried about the CB rendering being fuzzy. I can live with it, if it's not insane.

I just got home and was excited to watch the comparison video at 4K on my TV and realized DF only went 1080p. I feel like that was a strange decision!

Edit: I think what surprises me is that the PS4 and PS4 Pro look almost identical to me. I would've expected a bigger difference.

One thing I felt was lacking from the tech analysis was that you guys didn't mention SSR in water puddles, which is a pretty significant thing on it's own I think. One of the rare open world games that are doing this. Immediately coming from the Odyssey analysis, where you guys did mention the lack of SSR, I thought it would be something that you guys would focus on mid-way through the video. And RDR2 has SSR almost every specular surface. From water puddles to wood, leather and other materials at oblique angles to the horses' skin, and that's during sunny weather. SSR is used everywhere during and immediately after rain.

I'm not saying that, RDR 2 is on base consoles and nobody talk about them on this thread.

Yeah, and you know why...lol.

That's because us peasants on the underpowered base consoles are just happy with our lot. Leave it to the people who need to justify spending money on a Pro/X to argue pixel counts.

I like your style.

This thread is funny, and amazing, and other things.

But yeah, the folks with base consoles have things to talk about too.

The majority of pro games are closer to native 2k then 4k.
I dont think theres a single native 4k current gen game thats on the high end of graphics.

4K in terms how it looks.... Spider-Man, Horizon, GoW.... looks like 4K which is all that matters. Then again, resolution is the least important in terms of image quality beyond a certain point.

Now you're thinking - sure, he says that because he's a PS4 fan. Nope, I really like Xbox. I plan on getting it soon for Halo, GoW, bluray player, great controller, Game Pass.... but PS4 Pro does good enough 4K for me. And resolution really doesn't matter much beyond 1440p. Unless, you know, you want it to matter ;)

52 pages boiled down to "Most powerful console = best quality/performance"

Freeze frame and zoom in on stills all you like, still gorgeous in motion on the pro too. Hnnng.

The zooming is a good way to see what you'll notice on a 50+ screen anyway, it is not without merit and I would argue its more evident on 60+ inches that what you're seeing. Chances are you're looking at these comparisons on a phone or smaller screen laptop by comparison to a large HDTV, which most Pro/X1X have, zooming is a great way to see the differences.

On my TV, the main character is larger than most laptop screens, so yeah, keep zooming in please.
