Oh nooooo I was hoping to hop on to find info on the validity of this leak but it looks like tis thread may have changed into something else.
They shouldn't, but they will. They themselves set their own expectations with this rumor alone. When it doesn't get met, people lash out. It's happened many times in the past. Hell, look at what happened with the recent Waluigi nonsense.
Oh absolutely, this level of hostility is not productive, healthy or decent, especially over a video game.
Insiders doing what they are doing is just fanning the flames however, and that isn't productive either
Are you saying hes wrong because hes comparing the attitudes to a Trump rally? Because he isnt wrong. The amount of standards is so damn high for an insider and yet on the flipside, we will go hey this guy is a broken clock, maybe he is legit.

If you hadn't noticed by now the Smash fandom is quite dumb
That will breed a ton of faux insiders that will spam threads with misinformation. That isn't a smart thing to do.
I would also like to see what this 'harassment' is. Calling someone out on bullshit isn't harassment natively.

Ugh sorry to hear this man. People can be awful. Been through that before on a smaller scale and it's incredibly frustrating.

They're not dropping the final Smash Direct during the Let's Go week, and they're probably not dropping it after because then you're only 1-2 weeks out from the release of the game.

On a personal note, I don't really like insider/leak "culture". Something like this is actually kind of fun, with all the puzzles and investigation, but most of the time when articles are posted about rumors and leaks, (e.g. Star Fox Racing) it either ruins the hype of the announcement, or ends in disappointment when it's not true. There's basically no upside.
I get that this is the way things are, and I try my best to avoid spoilers as much as I can, but it's pretty difficult when you hang out on a video game forum every day.

Requesting proof for a claim isn't bad. If the same person is doing it viciously, maliciously, and repeatedly, that is bad and must never be encouraged in any shape or form.
Yeah, I don't condone the harassment but if you're an """insider""" why bother posting something that is basically meaningless?

But it's almost like it would've been better and more professional to, you know, not dive into a message board in the first place as a member of the media. Huh.
It is already out there, they are going to get harassed no matter what unfortunately. The rumored leak is already all over 4chan, Reddit, Gamefaqs, YouTube, and so on. I don't think closing the topic would change much.
but it looks like the ones who are claiming fake are reputable insiders though. The leaked image came from someone who had a Grinch printout
There were plenty of cringey posts in this thread being hostile to insiders like, "lol at insiders trying to remain relevant" or "don't come in here and say you know better without backing it up". I get it, it's frustrating to not know what others might know but that's no reason to be hostile and nasty towards people.
Instead try for a moment to think from the perspective of these insiders. Nobody is holding onto information just to feel better than us, they're doing it to protect their sources and to not draw scrutiny if their information turns out to be wrong. Also in this thread we've seen plenty of people posting about times insiders have been wrong. Well, if they share their info now and are wrong about this that's just another thing to add to the pile for people to tease them with in the future. Nobody wants that.

Just look at this thread. The fact that people can even entertain the (100% likely) possibility that people will harass nintendo and sakurai over this if it turns out to be fake makes it completely justifiable and appropriate.
I've gone into this earlier in the thread, but a major difference is that journalists typically will follow a double source or even triple source rule, which means you need at least two verifiable (though they can remain anonymous to the public, but verifiable to the reporter), disconnected sources that are saying the same thing without any cross-contamination. This is proper reporting protocol. I hear plenty about games, plenty of it correct in the long run, but I don't print it because I can't get the two sources together.
Obviously people on blogs or youtube influencers or whatever aren't necessarily beholden to these rules. In fact, nobody is, but the bigger and more 'professional' an outlet is the more likely they have rules around stuff like this in place.
