Yeah because watching a stream always shows the best graphical fidelity. The difference is massive.

Exactly, it's funny how people based their opinion on livestreams.

EVERY VERSION OF RDR2 LOOKS THE SAME ON LIVESTREAM, PERIOD.

This video just sold a shit load of X1X's. That footage from the X was stunning.

Is there anywhere I can rent an X1X? Don't wanna play on Pro but I don't wanna sell my Pro yet.

I think he means Sony did so many cost saving measures that it cripple the pro in many areas of design.
The level of exaggeration of some people is something else...it's not like every time it happens such thing on Pro. They should rejoyce to their console whatever or buy the other one if for them Pro is so terrible. But I mean it happened very often that Pro stack up quite well compared the X.

Did you honestly expect it to render at 1080p on a base X1? The base X1 has been struggling to run newer games at 900p let alone 1080p. Anyways, can't wait to play (even though I won't be able to fully jump in till after November 8th cause of work) even for an hour each day. 1X slaying it!

I guess I was just being hopeful because most of the people I play online with are on Xbox. I guess my options are play with friends, choose the higher resolution or solve both issues by buying a 1X.

Sony went scared trying to hold Pro back in fear of backlash from the broke people.

Xbox went big, I respect that. Might grab one but this would be only game id play on it .

Everything is is already on my PC, and blows X away. The fucking last minute decisions.

Okay, I think I'm going to read this entire thread just so I don't miss any posts like the above.

I'm not looking videos or anything like that...happy just reading and blimey, THAT is super impressive what R* have done with the 1X version! As I have a Pro and a 32" 1080p i "hope" the downsampled image is good enough. It doesn't bother me really the various ways devs hit their screen rez, i enjoy all the same. I can't play this until Sunday so media blackout time. Hopefully i come across no spoilers!

static and dull Horizon Zero Dawn?

lol. This is why i cannot take some comments seriously
Yeah lol.

I agree. Even dumping on other devs in general is just ridiculous and immature. WIth that in mind, i do think Rockstar should take some notes on reconstruction from Guerrilla, who manged to get a full 2160 checkerboard implementation going. I know its different cause of different games, scales and such, but just a refinement of their technique through studying other devs implementations would be great
Yeah.

Looking at the comparison pics at DF's site, I actually believe X is using 4k assets. Even objects close to the screen show way more detail that "blurring" wouldn't cover. Just looking at the other consoles it looks like the textures are lower res than X's. Should be good to get technical details from R* engineer about this

Reading through this thread and having kept up with it since this morning, I genuinely don't know what folks were expecting.

Why, what's wrong with it?

Terrible reconstruction method plus a weird 1920*2160 resolution makes for an unusual blurry image quality, resulting in the lost of detail on textures.

In other words, it's barely looking any better than base PS4 despite technically much sharper and cleaner. Like a new photo with a layer of dust on it, making it look barely any better than decade old photos.

You never know, maybe you can snag a good deal for a 1X, best buy is giving a $100 incentive towards a purchase of a 1X if you're getting rdr2 from there :D

For anyone that doesn't understand this means Sony cut ends on PRO hardware to make the PRO a bit more affordable for what its offering.

Its not console warring by any means.

No one actually thinks the Pro version looks bad, right? Obviously, it's not on par with the X in terms of res, but I remember seeing a number of posts in that first gameplay video thread saying how good it looks and some even doubtful it was Pro footage. The X really contextualizes things, as to be expected, but there's a lot of hyperbole in here.

Until you see the comparison between base PS4 and PS4 Pro. The base PS4 actually looks sharper than Pro in some areas, due to the flawed image quality on the Pro.

How is one of the most impressive open-world games of the gen native 4k on the X? Damn, that is insane. Rockstar putting in work.

No excuse for how poor the Pro version looks though. Also Rockstar NOT putting in the work.

I think it's because in the still shots it looks not that much better than the standard PS4. The Pro, in IQ at least, looks closer to the standard PS4 than the Xbox One X and that's not usually the case.

Most people here going on about which console is best likely have their TV settings wrong so things will look crappy anyway, always amazes me how many people on here have brightness too high or colour settings too saturated.

Those titles are Play Anywhere so your saves are automatically sync'ed with your Xbox if you login with the same account there. The sync work in both directions. You play a bot on your console and next time on your PC: A sync is performed.

Wow, amazing showing for Xbox One. Crazy to see a game of this magnitude running at native 4k.

The game is simply stunning. One of, if not the, best looking open world games ever.

Just phoned my GameStop and had them switch my reserve over to Xbox One.

Not sure what in the heck is going on with the Pro version. But I'd rather enjoy the game in it's best iteration on my X.

Until you see the comparison between base PS4 and PS4 Pro. There's barely any difference.
Pro is rendering twice the pixels of the base PS4, it's going to be much sharper, cleaner and better looking than the base PS4. dont look at compressed youtube videos at 1080p to try and spot the differences between pro and base ps4 games. the difference is stark when you see it on your 4k tv.

You sure? I've seen a few videos where he has come down hard on inferior versions of games. At least, in what I've seen of his output, he seems consistent here.

Yeah. Like I said, the video has more of a cross-gen feel to it where the previous gen gets an inferior version (example, say, Shadow of Mordor lacking part of the Nemesis system). And we already know that the pro versions have higher resolution, clarity, shadow definition, and maybe other enhancements than the base consoles have, we expect this to be the case.

But it seems that with this game the tide in attitude has turned from "pro/x are enhanced" to "base are inferior", which is an important distinction given that the gameplay across versions is supposed to be the same. Now, if we've actually reached that point - if the game lacks gameplay features or just cannot run well enough on a base console to make gameplay progress - that would be good to know.

And if it's more of a Watch Dogs on Wii U vs. PS4/XB1 situation (where you CAN play it but the game really thrives on the higher resolution due to the gameplay focus on tech and such), that would be important to know too. Because there are times where the game looks decent on Wii U, but you wish you had the higher resolution when trying to zoom in or pinpoint things and such.

To me the video made it sound like that the base console performance got in the way more because they have access a more pleasing image on pro consoles, rather than interference in gameplay. So that's where I was coming from there.

I hope so. They should be aware of this complaint by now and I wish they would prioritize this reconstruction fix. Horizon and God of War looks so good on a 4K TV, I'd love to get something similar on RDR 2.
Each time I realize how big of a difference in quality there is between first-party and third-party Pro support, I get more and more convinced Sony doesn't give a shit about their "supercharged" console. Why? Because if they cared at all, they would spend more on technical advice and support for third parties to fully embrace the best reconstruction methods aimed at the Pro.

They are forced to support their own product of course, and that's why you see gorgeous exclusives. But everything else? They simply don't care.

Bad implementation reconstruction tech makes it look blurry.

Blurry in comparison to the X, yes. Also blurry in comparison to some other good CB implementations we've seen in games like Horizon and God of War which are neigh imperceptible from native 4K.

But it's still the 2nd best way to play the game at the moment.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Going by the video, texture resolution etc is the same, any discrepancy you're seeing is *because* of the reconstruction.

Both Pro and X have higher resolution textures over base PS4/Xbox One however.

I don't think this is true at all. Sony has always maintained the Pro as a half-step measure. They didn't go all in on the mid-gen console like Microsoft did with their focused "we are making the strongest console ever" approach.

Plus the Pro released a year earlier and cost $100 less. It's not like they were released at the same time with the same price point.
the xbox one x has the 4k texture pack.

but isn't it true that the image are generally softer on the Pro version? we still don't know if Pro version actually looks better than base PS4 yet.

''Technically'' it should, but let's not forget the image quality is flawed.

I'm seriously considering selling my Pro for the X, but there're too many upcoming exclusive PS4 titles.

Plus I really don't need two consoles next to my TV..

God I'm super bummed out about the state of RDR2 on Pro.
I wouldn't sell it. I only have a base PS4 for now and will be getting a Pro later and an X afterwards, so I'm going to wait and hope they patch the Pro version because that IQ shouldn't look that bad on it, so hopefully by the time I get a Pro this game will have been patched on it and the IQ will be much closer to what one would expect, if not then X version it is. Fucking hell the X is such an amazing console I want to get one just to experience BC and enhanced games on it, MS went big and I'm definitely looking forward to what they'll be bringing to the table with Scarlet.

It's not as crisp as the One X but it isn't fucked, lol.

I see. Should be an easy fix if they go native 1440p? At least it performs better than the base models.

What does DF say about the Pro version?
