Eh, it's fake. My cousin works at the office where they do line recording for the game and told me Nozawa Masako had come by to do some lines, and I don't see her character in the leak.

Really makes you wonder what the big juicy hook team insiders have, obviously they can't indulge us and I get that, but it's fascinating at this point that whatever it is holds back the mighty tide of team real's hodgepodge of messy but interesting evidence.

I can't help but think it's got to be something more than "some guy said Inciniroar is definitely in", like they're actually playing as Alola Joe RIGHT NOW, testing out the new tournament mode at an insider exclusive gathering.

Said it before but the integrity and credibility of these journalist, pseudo journalist, insiders, ect. is hanging in the balance. They're all adamantly trying to defend themselves, because when this leak comes to fruition, they need to remain believable . After this is all said and done, this leak could really ruin a whole bunch of them. That's why some are trying to stay as silent as possible. They don't want to get involved in the shit storm that'll take place afterwards.

Alright so I've seen a whole bunch of people saying something like "if this is fake the faker is an amazing genius" or "this guy is Einstein level" but I seriously don't understand that thinking. The most likely way this is fake is if the guy actually works for the company we think he does and decided to just mock up an image and share it with his friends on Snapchat.

I don't understand why exactly that's so crazy smart. He had access to many pieces of artwork which could help him design the blank battlefield. The one impressive thing here would be coming up with all new drawings or renders of some extremely obscure Nintendo characters, but that's nothing too crazy. It just takes some artistic skill.

Okay but can you all calm down for a second? You're all just pissing off people who have been told by presumably trusted sources conflicting information. They're still people who want to enjoy the discussion and it's still all just talking about whether characters are going to be in a videogame.
if you want to enjoy the discussion then have a discussion instead of posting bs platitudes and definitions

So, you're calling multiple people on this, some of which who post on this forum, straight up liars.
Cause that's what you're saying, they're deliberately lying to cover for Nintendo, which is basically saying they have no integrity

Not lying but misinformed. There were tons of leaks from "insiders" before the Switch unveiling and most of them turned out to be false.

Mostly just Smash threads. I don't think I've seen anything else this hostile towards them.
Ryce has taken a hardline fake status on the leak and even cited internal sources he can't share and ended up being fine because he didn't deliberatly come up and call people loons for believing it.

Reposting this gem,

"Yeah it's the craziest person in the world going out of their way to make incredibly boring cardboard cut-out models using promotional material from the upcoming Grinch movie because he's thinking 47 steps ahead and knows that both Bandai-Namco and Universal studios contract the same obscure French marketing company. To this end, he then got himself an office, printed out the name of an employee of said company, and haphazardly half blurred out the name because, once again, he's some kind of super genius beyond the mental capacities of mortal man and he knew that the internet's crack team of cybersleuths would find his red-herring name in seconds.

This absolute Einstein of social engineering also happens to moonlight as an expert artist and after presumably spending hours carefully cutting and pasting characters from the Smash poster, he then went out of his way to produce 7 more drawings of his own with obscure elements like vines for Isaac that hardly anyone would be able to make out, and then, for the fun of it, he saw to making a completely unique drawing of the blank version of Battlefield just because he could. He made sure that this fake roster of his perfectly mirrored one posted on 4chan last month by someone whose first language clearly isn't English because he knew that people would immediately make the connection to the French marketing company that he is pretending produced this image. The fact that 5 new characters lines up with the 5 missing stages from Corocoro was all part of his master plan. He also made sure this coincided with Nintendo renewing relevant trademarks.

The lengths you have to go to believe that this is all an incredibly elaborate leak would make this man one of the most intelligent people to ever walk the Earth. Apparently he knew where people would look at every turn, making him at the minimum more competent than the entire government of Saudi Arabia when it comes to fakery.

I suggest you think about which outcome is the most likely here"

Well 5 with trademarks for a new game, but features etc., so often
Damn that's way more than I'd thought it would be. You'd think people would learn eventually lol. Also I don't even want to imagine how bad it gets for "new features and gameplay changes" that turn out to be not true.

I mean, it is getting kinda toxic already. Imagine what will happen if this turns out to be false.
Oh yeah this thread Is already starting to go bad. But oh golly will the smash community be in a tiffy for weeks if this turns out to not be true.

The biggest problem with this is that Liam would even come out and all and specify, "I know this is fake because of some information contradicts it, but I won't share it because it'll risk my source's job." yet Liam has for years now done just that multiple times. If he has information that "disproves" the leak, what's preventing him from sharing it exactly just like he's leaked stuff before? He was more than willing to share other information, so what has changed now?

What's particularly interesting about this entire ordeal, is that there's more to it than Smash bros characters. The integrity and credibility of these journalist, pseudo journalist, insiders, ect. is hanging in the balance. After this is all said and done, this leak could really ruin a whole bunch of them. That's why some are trying to stay as silent as possible. The loud denials are a headscratcher for me. For all intents and purposes, much of gaming journalism is repackaging press releases and sometimes doing exclusives for parts of games the companies want to show off. Outside of, like, Gematsu years ago, none of the mainstream outlets going to events talk to their sources with the intention of actually publishing investigative Smash pieces. The process instead is that randoms post rumors on 4chan, the outlets record thinkpieces for views, occasionally with kernels of information disguised as predictions, and rare confirmations or denials devoid of any context or explanation.

In other words, I can understand not wanting to burn sources or get blacklisted by the companies you rely on for ad revenue. But I'm surprised any of the so-called insiders are surprised people aren't taking them seriously in denying a rumor with a ton of improbable detail, when the conscious approach they're taking is to never unpack how they know what they know and to only ever use their information to tease. "I know something that you don't!"

Most of the people claiming to be privy to information are just saying it's fake and not to get your hopes up. That's it. There's no condescension here. Nobody thinks they're better than anyone else. I think people who think that are just upset that the supposed insiders can't say anything more.

He makes a good point :P I'm just saying the GameXplain stance isn't that the fake is missing characters

Didn't one of you guys say you were going to jump into a puddle of water if this was real?

I liked the suggestion of dressing as Kiddy Kong and recreating his KO animation.

it costs $0 to say "i have inside sources telling me that this is fake, but i cannot reveal said sources without risking their and/or my job" without adding in "and you're fucking idiots for thinking this is real, lol" afterwards

What if the leak is half real? ie: The Chorus Kids are in and using the same artwork but Incineroar was shopped out and Banjo (among others) was shopped in.
Would explain why Banjo looks a bit awkward and the Chorus Kids and Ken's renders look more detailed and better.

Pretty much. There is some great original thought shown on Chorus Kids and Isaac, the rest of it isn't so special. But I'm on team real until proved fake

I'm surprised a lot of them are making posts on the board tbh. This whole thing has got everyone in a tizzy.
