I feel like this is one of those cases where it doesn't matter what is present, it just won't be good enough.

Can't have them be the same
Can't have them be different

Why would they even be the same anyway? I think it's great that the female character gets unique emotes, they look cool.

Because they both look good and it adds variety?

Neither of these poses make one look more "badass" than the other

They are both silly / played for fun

They are meant to be stereotypes of people on instagram/social media used for comedic purposes. They aren't meant to be serious statements on how these characters would actually take selfies lol

I'm not looking for controversy here, just thinking about why they went through the effort of making the emotes twice.
I'd toure going to bother having different genders in the first place, you may as well put in the effort to do it right.

It would have felt cheap and lazy if it was just a texture swap. Having unique animations for male and female characters is a positive in my book.

I don't think this is a 'thing' to make a 'thing' out of...

scan 1,000,000 instagram selfies, there's a DISTINCT pattern.

DAMN THE DEVELOPERS FOR NOT BEING LAZY.

(damn me for making back to back post I could have put into one clean post lol)

Just look at the the other emotes, none of them are supposed to be serious. I use a male character and would much rather be able to use the female version because it's funnier.

I mean, I'm all for inclusion, equal rights and social acceptance, but I honestly fail to see an issue with the fact that a male and a female character have a different way to animate a similar gesture. I can kinda see the opposite problem as well: if they've made females use the default selfie animation, I could see people complaining that they included females but they move the same as males anyway so why bother? All in all, I don't see anything wrong with this at all.

It's not like they have a lack of funds so they can't have good attention to detail.

2015: why won't Ubisoft create separate animations for female models?

2018: why are you creating separate animations for female models?

Videos won't load for me. But I'm guessing my opinion would be ideally they would let you use the female pose for the man and the male pose for the woman. I don't like the segregation for blank slate avatars.

To be fair there's ways to do stuff.

Take for example all those MMOs where female characters run and pose all cutesy and shit.

This one is just whatever though. Being able to choose emote would be cool.

Seems like there both exaggerations for comedic effect, like the guy is trying hes hardest to look stoic, while the girl is trying her hardest to look cute. Both playing on gender norms or selfie culture?.

Are people intentionally missing the point here?

Also, are you aware that some women are butch and some men are feminine, and that's why this question was brought up? They could have each these emotes available for each gender, at the player's disposal. But they chose not to because stereotypes.

Uh...are you seriously mad about different selfie animations that were obviously mocapped by different actors?

Male and female bodies move differently when running and such so presumably they did separate mocap for every single animation, and this some of them turned out different?
This sounds like a reasonable explanation. Probably different actors doing the mocap? I doubt they just translated all the male animations to the female rig or vice-versa. I think differences in hip ratio and proportions make that look odd when it is done usually.

I'm not mad. I don't think anyone here is mad. People just find it questionable.

Also, what does the different actors have to do with this? Could they not ask the actors to animate in both ways? Hell, they probably could apply the same animation to both genders if their rigs are similar (which they probably are). There's very little technical limitation here to justify this, specially when games like Uncharted 4 have the same emotes for all characters. This is intentional.

I'm just baffled that you're this worked up over a selfie emote.

Nothing screams feminism like making your female character have the exact same animations as the male one

how about shaming a woman for being feminine, that'll get them

I mean, its not like they emote different things. They both do the same motions, just with slight differences.

The default of having both gender options do the exact same animation is the low-budget, low-scope version.
This is only questionable to anyone because they're accustomed to games that don't put as much thought and care into their emotes.

Oh more reason for people to be upset over nothing.

I like them being different. The female one is more feminine, that is all.

lol Ok, so you're just going to talk about me. Right.
There's really not much to talk about here, though. Having somewhat different emotes for different animation sets is a common thing. I suppose they could (and with updates, still can) give characters more variations on the same emote actions, but I'm not seeing anything particularly problematic in this instance.

Ok, wait, but no one is talking about scope or budget here. The criticism is talking about gender roles and stereotypes. The scope of having two different selfie animations, one to each gender, and two different animations but both available for both genders is exactly the same. You still have two animations. They're just available to both characters.

So the nightclubs you go to are the norm?

No. I'm just saying that they're both poses that I've seen people do, especially in nightclubs. They're very realistic.

If it upsets you that you can't choose then tweet Treyarch or make a post on r/BlackOps4. They seem to be very receptive to feedback and I can't imagine it's a complex change.

I'll keep an eye out for the inevitable mod edit in the OP that instructs everyone on the required amount of outrage and that any dismissal of these gendered selfie animations will be moderated accordingly.

I remember back on GAF someone made a thread complaining about female animations being the same as males for some game

We have finally come full circle. We can all go home now

Eeehhhhhh, both of em look alright. I can get behind the argument that both should be available for both genders. I'd love for my dude-bro soldier to suddenly turn into an instagram model on the battlefield.
