Smash's fan base regularly goes through it's own kübler ross model. Right now we're in the "anger" phase.

Smash community is insane, it has been proven to be back then in the Smash 4 rumors.
But at the same time, Sakurai also said that he may have gone a bit too crazy in the August Direct with the reveals & would slow things down going forward. Considering that we're close to the end, having 5 newcomers & 2 echoes in one Direct would be overkill to the point where that statement would be considered an outright lie. That plus the statement that we shouldn't expect too many new characters, whereas this rumor wouldn't be far off from Smash Wii U/3DS's base roster set of newbies.

The "burden of proof" is on both sides, but that burden is dead anyway as not one single insider will say why they believe it's fake. If you want evidence for why it might be real, you can read the OP like everyone else instead of just drive-by shitposting in here, man.

There's a reason so many people want to believe in this "leak", on top of the evidence. It's just a lot more appealing and interesting than "oh Ken and Incineroar are in, maaaybe a Square Enix rep and Minecraft Friggin' Steve too".

I've seen fakes and leaks treated like this so often. I know how it goes.
People see something. They hype themselves up. They come to all sorts of conclusions proving it's real or proving it's fake. Turns out they're wrong and it's fake or they're wrong and it's real. They then bitch about what we actually get because the hyped themselves up in their heads that this is going to be the way it's going to go.

I mean we have people calling workplaces and got a company to deny a person's involvement with a site because of how afraid this rumor would damage the company's reputation, I'd say this entire thing has been proof positive of how uncaring gaming communities are for something as dumb as a possible leak.
In a month, when the game releases, if this is fake, we'll either forget this whole thing happened or look back and laugh at how it was obviously fake.

You're asking us to prove it being real, how can we when we don't have the game? No one has ever been able to 100% prove a leak real.
We can only prove it fake - which we have tons of times in the smash thread to dozens of leaks over the course of Ultimate's hype cycle.
This is the only one that's lasted this long besides the Ken leak. No one has provided any evidence that completely damns it in the whole day and a half it's been out - that's way abnormal for a Smash leak.
I mean, all the evidence lines up to a very convincing real leak - that's the most we can do. We aren't Sakurai.
Like I said, several staffers, including Zhuge, have been in here to vouch for some of the people who have spoken out against this. Zhuge even voted #TeamFake on the poll.
There's nothing else they can do. People don't care. They just want someone to slip and post a real leak.
Maybe I'm missing some crucial experience because the idea of getting disappointed by a rumour that turned out fake is silly to me, especially in a game already bursting at the seams with content.
Resolving it like that is the only way this doesn't end in a disaster for someone.
