Alright, let's do a comprehensive post about this. Let's call it "why might this background have been faked?"
The rocks in the right side of the center rectangle are completly different, they are taller and in diferent locations.
These are 2 completly different arts. but why? why would the faker edit this art to look like that instead of just reusing the existing one

I think that might be the second to last nail in the coffin for this though (the final nail being them literally announcing something that contradicts this).
It depends on the context. It's a game of telephone we're playing here... personally if I was the guy and I was guilty I would simply choose not to answer any unknown callers for a while
Had a high possibility it would be identity theft and I suspected this for awhile. If this is accurate, whoever this impersonator is, he's going to get charged for fraud and identity theft. He's going to jail. Apart from also committing fraud to multiple companies using their likeness and fabricating legal material, so he's in trouble in all the ways. This stuff isn't a joke.

You can't "scribble out your name" on Snapchat, it appears on the upper left hand corner of the screen itself. If this was a Snapchat video it would have been there plain for anyone to see.
Whoever took the screenshot of this video is the one who tried to scrub out the name.
The character mural itself isn't much to go on (even if we've already discussed the shadows at length), which is why we reverted to talking about the background itself. Up until we got the background directly from E3, there wasn't a lot to digest about it that part of the leak. Most people just believed it because we thought it didn't exist without a background. That was until people did find one, and discovered that there are a healthy degree of discrepancies; one particularly egregious one that could only have been made if you didn't know the character-less background existed.I ask because the mural in the Character Banner for the leak seems more consistent with the mural used for the actual banners.
One of the big discrepancies used against the leak initially is that the empty Battlefield mural doesn't have the castle near Zelda's hand but you can kind of see it in the Leak's Character Banner.
The fact that the castle structure might be visible in this leak doesn't do much for the leak itself because the entire foundation of the argument is that most bits covered by characters were essentially painted over, and the castle structure is one of the bits that's never been obscured.
I'm curious what Liam's source is. If the artist did indeed deny it, then is the whole snapchat angle fake too? Is there someone else at some French pr firm that somehow attached his name to this so that their identity wouldn't be revealed? Is the Grinch stuff somehow fake too? That alone really doesn't tell us anything because it only makes at least half a dozen aspects of this leak more suspicious

No it just proves the person who leaked this is trying to put the heat on someone else. Or perhaps the leaker is trying to save his tail by denying it was him, lol.
It happens. I almost got caught up in a fake job offer scam because a fraudulent guy impersonated a real recruiter and company on LinkedIn when communicating with me.
That was a poor conclusion on his part of real information. He knew of the Shovel Knight amiibo and assumed it was for Smash.
