Leak not dead yet

credit to u/rockerLS on reddit:

"
So, upon further investigation, I don't think this means anything.

There are two Eric Bricard LinkedIn accounts:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-bricard-25b718103/

https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-bricard-446384173/

The former is the one that links Marina PLV, the latter one links ACP PLV, where he's worked for 1 year and 8 months. They list the same education, so it's clearly the same person. So...this lines up with him leaving Marina PLV in November 2016 assuming he got the new job a couple months later.

We might have been wrong about which printing company this was from all along. The leak might be from ACP PLV and not Marina PLV.

I'm a little less confident in this leak than I was a day ago, but I don't think it's dead quite yet. "

I haven't been able to check in since the initial discovery. Anyone mind providing a quick summary?

I don't think a quick summary is possible to be honest. But I'll try.

-At some point last night (my time) it was discovered that the blank battlefield artwork has been seen publicly at E3 so it's possible he had seen that and just recreated it. But some things on the leaked artwork appear to be a bit different. Although it's blurry so it's hard to tell. Either way it means he didn't have to create the background from scratch like we thought he did.

-The company "Marina" something which was initially the one on his LinkedIn profile which connected him to Bamco confirmed that he does not work there and hasn't since 2016. But we actually knew this already yesterday, a Nintendo fan site from France reported it. He now currently works at another point of sale company in France doing similar things. We don't know who their clients are though.

-All throughout this leak insiders have been dismissing it as fake without really giving it much thought or providing much evidence. This suggests (to most of us) that they know (or think they know) this roster cannot be real because of inside info that they have. The most common theory is that they all know (or think they know) Incineroar is 100% going to be in the game and his absence from the leak tells them this is fake.

So we haven't lost the paper trail, we just redirected it while eliminating an argument that worked againt it.

My god.

It's kind of hit a dead end though. Even if hypothetically we've found the company making marketing displays for Smash, they're going to be bound by NDA and handling everything internally, real or fake.

At this point, both sides are grasping at straws to prove or rebuke anything.

if this is fake, the leaker is basically a Jojo protag

"Jojo! The company released a PR statement! It's fake! I win!"

"...!

...Hmph.

I knew they would make that PR statement. Now it proves that I don't actually have a connection to Namco Bandai! This takes away one of your main arguments against the leak, as Namco isn't involved at all!"

Banjo being in this would be a dream come true. AND what it'd mean between Nintendo and MS going forward. As Jawmuncher said before, this REALLY opens doors. Like we could see Banjo (and other Rare games) on Switch, as well as Rare's game on the N64 Classic.

Oh and a Banjo-Kazooie amiibo! :D

If it's real it looks like the artists weren't given access to the original empty bg pic and had do take their best stab at rebuilding the unseen parts, which isn't completely out there but it's suspicious.

Well hot dang! I guess this is trending more towards fake than I would have originally though. Thanks for taking the time to fill me in! I'm so that'll help some other folks too.

"Nothing has changed" except now it's a guy who works for a company with no obvious, even tenuous, connections to Namco, Nintendo, or Universal.

Given that the guy does work at a printing company, doesn't it seem like maybe he'd also have the skills to fake this?

The guy will be in trouble though. This will be all over and that company will get calls just like Marina did about this.

I'm a native speaker and I don't see where it does. It gives no clue to either internal or external.

Nintendo France doesn't even handle their communication themselves.

It was this bit, translated:
"For the stores, we are in the process of stalling our device of animations and demonstrations. But we will also be very present: our will is to go beyond the linear video game so that our games are present in central aisles in hypermarkets, at the entrance of specialty stores or by offering specific skins for online sales sites ."

To me that sounded very specific. Like, why would Nintendo of Europe, in Germany, be managing things for supermarkets in France?

That's been the case since the beginning, but now with possibly one thing against him is gone.

Ultimately it's still up in the air.

Oh I mistook you. Nintendo France is absolutely handling those things themselves but it's probably through a 3rd party in France.

Well the connection to Bamco was actually a mark against the leak previously, since Bamco would not be handling marketing for Smash, even though they're handling the development. So depending on your perspective the revelation that it's a different company might actually make it more likely to be real, not fake.

But I'm still on team fake ever since the blank battlefield art surfaced.

I mean, it's a printing company. They're given the artwork to print from their clients. Why should he 100% have those skills? Also why would he use his company and put his job in jeopardy for a fake leak of a game he probably only cares about in his free time? It doesn't make any sense. This guy received that image, printed, probably didn't think it was that big of a deal to spread it on the internet, and I'm pretty sure he didn't sleep at all tonight.

It's still possible that the person working for the company made a fake render and used their printers to print it out lol. That's why I'm not completely on one side or the other.

Remember how people were reporting yesterday that Marina didn't have any connections to Universal Pictures and Illumination, which was odd since there was promo stuff for The Grinch on the desk?

This now makes more sense. This guy is working at some other company.

Still in 100% team real, how can you think this guy made all these renders & the Grinch of all things, just for a funny leak, is it not at all possible he just stupidly leaked it on his snapchat?

We may never find out what happens. This company can internally fire this guy and we won't know. They're all under NDA. Don't expect the company to talk about leaks.

There were never any sensible connections with Nintendo or Universal at the other place, a tenuous one would just promote the bad conclusion jumping we saw with the Namco logo.

But I think you're right that all this takes is a print worker being a Nintendo nerd artist taking part in the popular Nintendo nerd artist hobby of making fake Smash pictures, which I don't think is as unlikely as some people think.

He faked the Grinch stuff too?
