That 99 MC while it sounds impressive isn't really the best way to measure the game to. The 97 has more reviews and therefor more representative of the game.

MC dividing the game but platform when they're basically the same is stupid. They should do it like Opencritic.

Jesus at all the ridiculous chatter about highest rated game of all time. I swear to god lol. People are so naive.

Game looks great, but these lists are stupid as anything ever created. The people that worship them are weird.

Greg Miller not enjoying it is a bit of a downer for me. Usually agree with him on pretty much everything. He loves Odyssey.

So Greg Miller didn't like it. Said the world is incredible but hates Arthur, the gang and being the bad guy and probably won't go back to complete it. I'm happy that he doesn't have to write a review and give a score because it'd be something he'd get shit for the rest of his career.

More and more I find my tastes getting vastly different from Greg's.

I began listening to Beyond like a decade ago because he and Colin would talk about games I liked, and we were on the same page.

But now I see this, and his constant gushing for stuff like The Division or Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and how he likes games that are essentially collect-a-thons because he can "check stuff off a list" and it's really gotten me to move more toward Easy Allies lately.

Can anyone comment on regular PS4?, I own a PS4 slim.

This is from the Digital Foundry thread.

* PS4/XB One have better overall performance than RDR1 had in 360/ps3 hardware. There are drops even to the low-mid 20s at some points though.
* Visual parity in terms of rendering for all versions. (same assets/foliage etc)
* PS4 1080p

Seriously what the fuck with Slant magazine? They always have to put low scores because the fucking clicks?
Why would you expect every single person in the world to enjoy this as a 9+ game? Of course some people won't like it (even though the Slant writer did like it). It will probably be an 8 at best for me since I expect the gameplay to be poor.

Diverse opinions are good.

I noted that in my review, there's some occasions where it does feel like there's a bit too much back and forth riding for no reason.

Pretty good. You can drift.

Pay attention though, because nothing makes you feel worse than face planting you and your horse into a tree because your mind was wandering.
Anything about side quests or most reviews didn't manage to dig into them yet?

Tomorrow is going to be a great say for gaming.
2017-2018 has been two amazing years for gaming: Persona 5, Zelda, Mario Odyssey, God of War and now RDR2.

I'm salivating and not for the 96-97 or whatever. Most of the reviews are highlighting this game as the best one in terms of technical achievement and realism. Can't wait to jump in.

The Xbox One version managed to become the best game ever, it's finally happened, something defeated Ocarina of Time :o
There is no reason to think it won't crush everything at GOTY awards.

This must be the best year for gaming ever.

I will remember this console generation for decades.

Greg Miller not enjoying it is a bit of a downer for me. Usually agree with him on pretty much everything. He loves Odyssey.

Probably too slow paced for him, or maybe too much micromanagement? This is a more survival/realistic game than most open worlds. It's the exact opposite of games like InFamous or AssCreed.

Just preordered it, the reviews were exactly what I was hoping for. I believe the ones that ended up crunching? get a bonus if the game sells well so this is good news for them.

It's what these lists do to fanboys and kids. They make them think the game needs to be perfect, and every single person needs to agree that it is perfect. And the game that is the closest to that ideal is the bestest.

Recommend the Eurogamer review for those looking for the more critical takes. Reads a bit unintentionally nitpicky and unclear at times but the gist of what he considers to be the game's lesser aspects (and its best) and why comes through. Always a valuable perspective with a game as hyped as this one.

Also contains a juicy BOTW/Witcher 3 comparison at the end if you guys need some oil for Era's GOTG debate fires.

It's ridiculous watching fans on messageboards trash a reviewer if they don't give glowing praise and hyperbole to game the fans haven't even played.

This is a Rockstar open world game. It's going to have all the problems that entails.

Critics always go wild for Rockstar games, but the trailers showcase all of the clunkiness and terrible dialogue that are a staple of these games now.

With it a above 95 and the X performance being good I think I'll have to get the Xbox version.

Slant Magazine:
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 7
Marvel's Spider-Man - 7
Assassin's Creed Odyssey - 7
Detroit Become Human - 5
Far Cry 5 - 5
Wolfenstein II - 3

That's just some of the games from this year too that are far off the average.

Interesting. Maybe Arthur isn't as malleable as I thought he'd be.
