This newcomer list is so beautiful. Fleshing out missing holes from previous consoles with Banjo, Isaac, and Chorus Kids. Geno and Mach Rider to an extent too, though we have enough NES characters. :P
Why is that fake? If anything that points to it being real. We had speculated for a while that the miis would be grouped together in the final poster
so #TeamFake . Not feeling it and I like the newcomers, if it ends up being fake I'll find consolation in bamboozling y'all
This is a weird one, because it's actually mostly really unambitious. If I were to make a fake character list, it would have Mach rider, chorus kids, isaac, etc because those are characters that sakurai has pushed for in the past then cut (mach rider has been in a supposed major leak for every game since brawl), and some are clones so obvious they were getting in anyway (Ken and shadow)
But banjo and geno are so "dreams come true" level that it casts doubt. Geno I could believe due to the alternate costume but...banjo? A microsoft character, and a nod to Rare after they changed the goldeneye/perfect dark items? That would be nuts. But sakurai is nuts so...it could work. I doubt this, but holy hell thats a damn good roster.

Ish. It's one of those beta series that have been lying largely dormant since the mid 2000s like F-Zero, Advance Wars or Golden Sun. It's not big, but it's done decently well, enough for the GameCube game to get released in NA and the DS game in all regions. Though I assume the sales for those weren't strong enough to justify an additional entry in the series.
I imagine that if Ray had made it into Smash, interest in a revival of the games would resurge, though. It's a pretty good series.
Probably, and also involve his bike. It's hard to say because the actual game and the toy as well are mainly based around the bike. He's kind of like Captain Falcon in a lot of ways, even though he's got a bit more involvement in the NES game.

So basically there's no reason to trust them.
Unless someone wants to poke their head out and outright say a specific part of the leak is wrong, it's all meaningless (missing characters does not make this leak wrong).

It's possible Sakurai didn't want to pull a Greninja again and decided that Pokemon Trainer returning was enough. With no way to gauge popularity until the new games were out anyways, doing a Pokemon as DLC ensured they'd be able to get a fan favorite instead of guessing and also let fan favorites get in.
I just got here, has there been a discussion about whether:
A. This is it. The 'box leak' shows they didn't put out marketing with unrevealed characters.
B. Like the Mewtwo reveal, it's possible they'll reveal DLC in the final direct. Is it possible the first DLC character is a part of this image?
C. It makes a ton of sense to show Shadow and Ken at once.

It's funny that people see Banjo as this big impossibility when to me, he's barely a stretch just with how chummy MS and Nintendo have been lately.

No doubt, but it would make sense considering Eggman would require an entirely different moveset.
I would have seen him as a D.Va (from Overwatch) type character who fights in a mech that can be destroyed but is still playable albeit vulnerable outside of the mech.
I'm not too tapped into the Smash Bros prediction scene, but haven't people been thinking about Mach Rider for a while now?
Such as what? You don't have to say "Well X character that I know about and am not supposed to talk about isn't there", but at least something like "I know some characters are missing."

They're not missing, they're just different because those characters were moved around.
It isn't my info to give out. The people I've spoken with have done so knowing I wouldn't leak information, but I can tell you those I've spoken to have all unequivocally said that this "leak" isn't legit.
