This would not mean that they would not be dlc, just that they would not be announced as soon as before launch

Characters in fighting games can be announced before the game is done. Mewtwo for example was announced before Smash 3DS was released because all they had was his model =P
I'll say this regarding 'insiders', given there's a lot of calling them out going on in this thread - look, a lot of information gets put out there, and if you're well plugged-in you often get contradictory information from equally reliable sources with good track records on certain things in the past. So, y'know, it's bloody hard. Some people are plainly more prone to stepping beyond their actual knowledge than others, obviously... and it's up to you guys to judge who is who there and figure out who you trust.
In the proper media, at least, properly trained people won't go to print on anything without two verifiable sources on that information - even if the sources have to remain anonymous in the final piece. Where this gets muddled is that there's a lot of people in games without traditional journalistic training who don't hold information/sources up to these traditional standards, and obviously once you get to the realm of bloggers and youtubers - who do amazing reporting in their own right - these ideas are largely entirely out of the window. Anyway, this is why, say - I write for a games publication as my full-time gig, but I've not printed anything about Smash because the information has always come from one place and has often had contradictory information also swimming around, either misguided or outright made-up. A good example is that I had somebody telling me Simon and Isabelle was in Smash before E3, and that the former was going to be revealed at E3. That information did the rounds among some game media in a big way, but nobody felt confident enough to report... and then it didn't happen at E3, and everybody wrote that source's information off as false. Then, a few months later... you get it. It gets very hard, even in the 'confidential leak' world, to sort the wheat from the chaff, especially with a game as highly anticipated like this where people feel encouraged and emboldened to fake more and more leaks.

idk, hope you are right but clearly some people are getting way too invested in something that is no gaurantee. Nintendo would have to have been misleading us biigg time and I'm not sure why an insider would chime in at all if he didnt have an inkling (hah) about things
Maybe I'd buy it if some of these characters where postulated to be dlc but for now I think it is unlikely but wow what a high quality fake if that is what it is

This is my interpretation as well.
Best scenario: This is real, but there is one more round of reveals beyond it - maybe a reveal right before launch.
I think this is a good summation of where we're at right now.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Isaac in Smash.
So it's hard for me to tell if this leak is true or just wanting to believe it's true. But it seems credible, and I'm excited, so that's something.

I would be a little disappointed that they would be occupied even beforehand, it would mean that they would be a far ways out if ever in that case. Again though, I dont think Nintendo really does that too often to be a worry, doesnt make sense at the moment to get dlc hype ready
I would also add that it kind of sucks that this was ruined for Sakurai, so some insiders may be trying to keep us on our toes.
There's no reason to call it a fake unless they 100% know it is, and given that it's rare for anyone with some info to have the whole picture, particularly with something like, I can't imagine anyone being able to fully call fake.
I mean Imran has been around for awhile, he's been right and wrong before, hell he got completely blown up back during that famous NX leak iirc. He's never acted in a way to suggest he has an agenda, he just provides what he feels comfortable with like others who leak info on here. The harrassment of folks who provide info, both on issues like these and sales threads, is just driving people away and making the level of discourse worse.
Nintendo had said they got ahead of themselves with how much they had announced by september and where from the very start saying there won't be as many new characters because literally everyone has returned
If you want to believe this rumor that is on you I'm a super skeptical person and even I could see why, but I wouldn't get too stoked about what some youtuber says

So the people thinking insiders are desperately trying to remain relevant are silly, all these people have actual jobs that matter, them giving us their insight on era isnt some thing they desperately need. I think they have info that contradicts these leaks and when they have to be non-committal its to cover not only their asses but the people that they get info from. If you are out there insulting them and calling them out then remember they are people and treat them accordingly with respect and the belief they are acting in good faith.
However, when it comes down to it theres so much here that would be so hard to fake and require such planning that the idea that it might just be real starts to feel likely. Hard to look at every piece of info we have and disregard this leak as wholly false, so I do believe it but we shall see.

Mewtwo was announced after Smash 3DS was released. And that was just a digital bonus, anyway. Sakurai has said he doesn't start working on DLC until the game is done
Whew, people are hungry for more Smash news aren't they? I'm not sure how legit any of this is having read pages of comments, but it's... amusing... at least.
Personally, I'm still hoping either Elma from XBX or Pyra from XB2 make it in, even if Smash started before XB2's release.

This is either a lame drive-by, a bad troll, or someone who didn't even read the OP. It's fair to believe it's fake, and it very well may be, but being bewildered as to why people think it's real is just straight up ridiculous
For what it's worth, I hope no one thinks I'm super invested in this leak coming true or something, since I'm in the OP a lot
I just like to put my detective hat on and see what stands out, putting together all that Grinch stuff was a fun rush. As of right now, more points to this leak being real than fake, but I'm not gonna stake my hype on it. I'd really suggest everyone else do the same.

I'm sure this was already pointed out but Isaac's position on the poster doesn't make any sense. He shifts everyone else on his plane to the left, whereas everyone else is being patched into holes(like how they did it the last two smash directs). It wouldn't make sense to alter the art that much to give him such importance.
Much of this is really smart, I think. I don't think any one given 'insider' knows the whole roster, but different people know different bits and pieces, but because they all contradict each other, they all think the others are wrong. Much of this leak is really convincing, in particular how it appears to have emerged, but people are hedging their bets. The attitude often taken to that is "well, say what you know or get fucked, coward!!" but honestly speaking out is imo even more frightening just because of how people react if you're wrong. It drives people away from revealing much of anything beyond hints. Well, that and worries about exposing their source.

Im not sure if the VG247 editor (i guess he was an editor?) has leaked something before. But suddenly theres numerous people saying, more or less, that this leak its probably a fake indeed, but without any sort of prove that at least as convincing as the leak itself. More noticeably, the crew of GameXplain, VG247 guy, the ERA user whos nickname i don't remember right now, Liam Robertson, now this tech guy whos tweets are in this thread, and etc. Kinda weird. All this people knew this was fake the whole time? Then why is the leak so freakin convincing?
This past month has been terrible for news, it's lowered my hype for the game. I'm used to thinking about smash every day due to daily updates but the Ultimate blog sucks due to barely any new info.
So I'm really glad for this lol

So "insiders" that been wrong or constantly always give 50/50 responses should be taken credible for what reason? Yall tripping. Their job is not "insider"
#TeamRealbutIncomplete, in that everyone here in in the game, but as insiders are pointing out, people they're expecting to be here are not (new Pokemon rep, new SE rep), those characters might have been pushed back to DLC
