You are right that it would be the first western-created IP though.
I think they could technically skirt around it by announcing a few days prior that "Rare has an announcement planned for X0". That'd probably get enough Nintendo fans watching, maybe, and even if it didn't, the announcement would still blow up on social media to the extent everyone would see it anyway
Honestly though, if the leak is legit, I wouldn't be surprised if they revealed Banjo after an announcement of Rare Replay on Switch. At least the pre-Xbox games. I don't think Microsoft would be adverse to doing that.
I'd like Sami to be in Smash Ultimate. Her and Andy are probably my most wanted for Smash. Banjo and Kazooie would be great too. They're all I can think of at the moment.
How about you? Who would you like to see in Smash?

Right. DKC is created by a western developer though, but yeah DK is Japanese made.
Really? I thought Dark Samus was Sakamoto's idea and all the characters in the first DKC game were designed by Miyamoto. If I remember correctly Miyamoto talked about it on DKCR Iwata Asks.
The 4chan leaker probably used excessively foul language to downplay the credibility of the leak. It comes across as some troll who knows nothing. It's a way to get the information out there but not have people (at the time) take it very seriously - therefore not drawing a lot of attention to themselves.
XC2 came out less than 10 months ago, there is no way there will be characters from the game in Ultimate's base roster.
Who wants to bet in death Mach Rider blows up into a bunch of pieces as shout out to their game?
I mean there's no ARMS either and that came out before Xeno. I think Smash was too far along to add in characters from unreleased games so hopefully they get added as DLC!

XC2 came out way too late. The roster would have been set in stone by mid-2016.

One can only hope.... but arent there only like 2 or so characters left according to that retailer info from a while ago? And like, december is around the corner, how are they gonna pace those reveals? I dunno, we'l wait and see, but if this is true then its a fanboys dream come true, which tbh Ultimate already is at this point so adding more would put me in a hype coma.
Diddy Kong and K. Rool were created and designed by Rare (Kevin Bayliss and Steve Mayles I believe). Dark Samus I'm not so sure about.
How much did they move characters around on that artwork for Simon, Richter, Dark Samus, Chrom, and K. Rool? I was just looking at everything they had to shift around to fit Chorus Men and it seems crazy. I'm not sure whether to believe this or not, but at the same time all those are kind of realistic.
I can't think of a moveset style that doesn't just make him another Cpt Falcon

Probably none. I got my Belmonts, Roy (Junior), Wolf and Y. Link to start with, so I'm largely good, as it is.
I'd be lying if I wasn't very curious to see how a Mach Rider moveset would play out, though.
