i dont expect various dialogues with NPC, in my understanding...NPCs will just behave and say different things regarding the reputation.

What are you guys talking about?? That NPC interaction looks incredible, far far better than any open world I've ever seen. Name one open world with a better random NPC interaction, I'm talking about ''background'' level of NPCs.

I mean that is about as much interaction as you have with random NPCs in Bethesda games, so still more than most open world games. In terms of complex interactions with every NPC...we are probably a couple of generations away from that...That is not what I expected at all.

Sorry but did you ever play GTA San Andreas? NPC's would come up to you and make comments on your appearance, you could answer back and then NPC's would still give another answer, also in if I remember in RDR it was pretty good developed

That level of interaction isn't really better than games like watch dogs 2 and just a bit better than the GTA V interaction. Incredible? I mean different strokes I guess tho.

supposedly that's only part of the interaction, the rest being people remembering your antics, liking you or disliking you for what you've done to people related to them etc.

But it was always known, the very first preview i read (based on the press event held in march) specifically mentioned you have Bethesda level of interactivity with NPCs and scenery, a similar degree of freedom in how to tackle situations, a similar AI driven game world.
Which is no small feat. People like to talk trash about Bethesda all the time but few realise nobody does sandbox quite the way they do.
This is a first for..well, anyone who's not Bethesda and apparently goes beyond that.
(i know about WD2, i'm talking the whole approach to sandbox here)

And yeah, the most jarring thing about that clip was definitely the delay.
I wonder if faster loading times of the midgen consoles can help there.

As mentioned in my other post: GTA San Andreas was best with with NPC interaction

thats fucking disappointing tbh

lol, you expected some kind of deep branching dialogue with hundreds of NPC's? There has to be a limit to this stuff. fact is most people won't be talking to the NPC's or even replying with the one liners, they are straight to the story meat and that's that.

I'm not one of those people, and love exploring and shooting the shit with as many people as possible in my games, but there's only so much a team like Rockstar can do. You could give a random NPC hundreds of lines of dialogue, but this is a game, with a narrative, there has to be structure and background and meaning to the character for the player to be invested and even want to talk to them. it's too much work and even so it just wouldn't be good for the game.

People have insane expectations for this game.

Just remember, this took over 6 years with notorious working conditions and hundreds if not thousands of employees all on it. My understanding is this wasn't just Rockstar SD, it was every studio.

no. i expected what was advertised and boasted about for the past 8 months. not a glorified GTAV ped button
1000's of lines of dialogue was advertised, much more than that of GTAV is what the lead writer said right?.. still seems like it's going to happen. just you're not going to be able to discuss the meaning of life with a random NPC. Substantial characters I'm guessing with have a lot more to say because travelling takes a lot longer on a horse.

Does the game still use the "go to these characters in sometimes freely chosen order and do their missions" formula? Not criticizing it, just wondering since they were talking about how they wanted to blend missions and side content in more and make it more immersive etc.

i say "what was advertised over the past 8 months" and you cherry pick the 1000 lines thing from a few weeks back. im talking how conversations flow and having it feel natural. What we saw in the leaked vids was the complete opposite of that

Yeah I played San Andreas, although that was an age ago. Don't remember much interaction though, if any at all.

Will get my copy either in 5 hours or tomorrow morning. Those leaks don't make the waiting time better. So stoked!

You own a horse? Nice. What's your take on the horse animation thus far?

You must not have liked the gameplay clip where Arthur had to put down the horse... that was surprisingly brutal.

The horse animations look fine though I would assume it must extraordinarily hard to animate horses since they do a lot of dumb stuff and look stupid while doing so. I am really interested in how the bonding will work. Obviously, too much realism is not sustainable for a video game but I landed more than once on my behind (and once in a creek) because my boy did not feel like jumping over something when I first got him. He's a good horse though. I wonder how this will work in the game.

No shaving animations, preorder cancelled.

It was already cancelled when it was found out that there is no rope tying hunted game to the horse where the ropes magically appear

In all seriousness though, if R* didnt do their damnest to hype every aspect of the game up, this wouldnt even be an issue so the disappointment is palpable and justified.

I've only poked my head in here every now and then but you've been a consistent buzzkill from the off.
If you're disappointed in every single aspect of this game, why are you in this thread so much?

Doesn't (almost) everyone?

Haha almost. Some guys pull it off really well. Arthur just looks fucking wrong with one lol.

It's one of the features of the game I'm most curious about. Everything else has been leaked except for this which kinda sucks lol.

If you're disappointed in every single aspect of this game, why are you in this thread so much?

I read the previews, preordered the game and watching the videos find myself dissapointed that the NPC aspect is worse than San Andreas and Watchdogs. I understand you dont care about those things but judging from the thread it seems that its a frequently cited disappointment.

Watch Dogs 2 is criminally underrated and arguably did tons more ped and world reactivity stuff than GTA V

Yeah. You could taunt people, and also apologize, and it had gameplay implications. There were also a ton of other options, and made pretty intuitive with the radial menu.

For instance you could taunt a guard into opening a locked door to confront you, apologize before he attacked you, then stealth takedown him just as he opens the door to return and sneak through.

Worse than San Andreas? Are you even thinking about what you type, or just letting the bullshit flow?

Well ResetEra is the only place so far that's ''disappointed'' with the lack of some minor animations, which is kinda funny considering their favorite games are the Souls games.

My favorite games are the Souls game as well, and somehow I don't have this ''nitpicking GAF syndrome''

That description points to the ideal difference this RDR2 is attempting, that NPCs have personalities and react based on your past actions and other factors

What you described sounds as binary as "guards go back on patrol like nothing ever happened" in a stealth game

I really liked Watch Dogs 2 and felt its NPcs and world were more lively than GTA V but its world also felt simultaneously dynamic and shallow

I thought you've banned for at least 24h. I'm tired of reading these low quality baits. Dude, don't like the game? Then leave this thread. Nobody is taking you serious anyway.

I can't tell what's real anymore. Is the second paragraph sarcasm?
