The former "it's tough to be a bug" Theater building is being repurposed for the new Spider-Man attraction where guests are given a web-shooter of their own to use. The ride appears to be mostly screen-based (likely 3D in nature), so think Toy Story Midway Mania, but with guests shooting webs instead of darts, balls, and rings. The entrance to the building will be rerouted to the opposite side of so it can be accessed from the hub of this new land. The central hub is a large Avengers symbol in the ground that is surrounded by all of the land's offerings. Think of this as The Avengers' California Campus.

The Spider-Man queue is attached to the former "tissue box" restrooms of A Bug's Land, which will be remodeled and kept for the new area.

Nearby, Doctor Strange has his own show experience where guests will meet the Avenger in a round courtyard. We expect this to be similar to an offering currently on the Disney Cruise Line.

If you're hungry, there are some dining options nearby. There is a counter service restaurant and microbrewery in the plans. Who do you theme a microbrewery to? Well, Ant-Man of course. This explains the giant canned beverage that appears on the poster. This can will be located on the second level of the building.

As for shopping opportunities, a large shop sits near the second phase Avengers ride, with a smaller shop located across from the Spider-Man attraction.

You'll be happy to know that Phase 1 and 2 do not touch the Red Car Trolley attraction that runs from Mission Breakout down to Buena Vista Street, so that will be sticking around.

All of this information has been confirmed by internal documents at this point, so none of the above is much of a rumor. Certainly, thematic elements could change, but the overall plan mapped out above is what you will see rolling out in phases at Disney California Adventure starting in 2020.

So, who's ready to suit up?

At least Guardians of the Galaxy won't look so out of place now.

So is this regarding the large building that just had exhibits and "talk with Crush" feature?

Comparing Spiderman to Toy Story Mania has to be one of the least exciting descriptions for a superhero ride ever. Hopefully these details are either inaccurate or extremely incomplete, because a glorified shooting gallery doesn't sound especially exciting--and it has a high pedigree to live up to with its east coast cousin.

There's also a certain irony to demolishing Bugs Land to replace it with Ant Man.

Now WB and Universal Studios need to come up with a DC Land and include a Big Belly Burger for everyone to finally enjoy.

I know this is for the California park but how does Disney's acquisition of Marvel affect Universal in Orlando? Have they got permanent IP rights or at some point are they gonna need to retheme superhero island?

It doesn't really affect it at all. Universal has the rights to their current attractions and those characters in perpetuity east of the Mississippi. Disney would have to buy them back if they want to make any Marvel attractions of their own in WDW, besides some characters that are apparently excluded, such as GotG which is getting a ride in Epcot

That makes sense, thanks.

Please do not effing touch Animation Academy. It's one of the last air conditioned safe havens for waiting out the afternoon line crowds.

Can't wait for the day when Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opens in Disneyland and Avengers Land completes in California Adventure! We'll finally get to see Satan and Hell itself with astounding price hikes and an estimated bajillion people per day per park!

Both in parks where neither really has any business being!

What times we live in.

To be fair, Bugs Land never really screamed "California" either, but it also wasn't central to the park's identity like Marvel land will soon be

Kind of potentially feel meh about the Spider-Man attraction. It does indeed have a tough act to follow in the Spider-Man ride at Islands of Adventure.

I was honestly hoping for the Iron Man ride that Hong Kong got.

That's it? That's....kind of lame.

Still, A Bug's Land was always shit. Fuck that place.

Very true. That's the building I was thinking of and it's just a place to go relax and take a load off.

Surprised people are so big on the Universal Studios Spider-Man ride. I went on it recently for the first time and despite having a few clever moments and many of Spidey's villains (which I doubt Disney really even bothers to acknowledge), it was pretty underwhelming for me. The King Kong ride was awesome by comparison.

I mean....it's literally 20 years old now. If you think about it with that in mind I think it is pretty damn impressive,
though I do think it got a resolution bump like 7-8 years ago.

Okay, that makes sense given the animated series stuff in the queue for the ride, but wasn't comparing the visuals to Kong, I just meant the experience had me underwhelmed. I don't know how old the Jurassic Park ride was but that was a pretty cool experience, even the Simpsons ride was clever and fun, while other new stuff like the Fast and Furious ride or the Transformer ride are both obviously newer but had me really underwhelmed by the execution.

I've never been on the Kong ride, but I just remember being really wowed by the Spider-Man ride when I was much younger.
I think the combination of motion/practical effects and VR was fairly revolutionary for its time, but maybe I am giving it too much credit.

Universal already has the superior Marvel land before Disney can even try.

The Universal marvel land has a couple of good rides (Hulk and Spider- Man), but I've always thought the themeing looked cheap. Maybe it's just the cartoon style, but it seems much more "Six Flags" than the rest of the park.

OTOH, if this is really all Disney has planned, then Universal has them beat handily.

This was always one of my favorite things at Universal Florida for years because it was almost like an inside joke that nobody knew what it meant.

Superhero Island is pretty dated at this point, but at least it can use some of Marvel's best characters together.

Phase 1 sounds pretty weak, a Spiderman shooting gallery is not the direction I expected this to go at all. Phase 2 will probably be pretty solid, but who wants to wait that long? DCA continues to be the weakest link of the Disney Parks

Was looking forward to news on something about the Namco arcade/Mega Drive game of old, then realised I wasn't on the gaming side. :(

I was always under the assumption that the Marvel world at Universal was to be replaced by the Super Nintendo World? From what I'm seeing that doesn't seem to be the case in this thread.

I always found it a bit odd that Marvel is owned by Disney, but it's main park competitor had the Marvel zone in their park. Obviously this is because it was done before the Disney acquisition, but it's still kinda surreal seeing it now.

DCA is still a half day park - but I enjoy how relaxed it is.

The idea of a Captain America coaster out in Avengers area will be fun, but I hope it's legit not just the Tron coaster that's going into Florida with a shield on the front of it.

I'm really surprised anyone would pick Kong Skull Island over Spider-Man. I found Kong to be incredibly underwhelming as it's just a truck that drives from one screen to the next with no real movement other simulated shifting and water effects with the 3D.

Spider-Man has really awesome spinning and shifting motions that feel more like a dark ride than a simulator.

There's all sorts of fun references to many different characters. My favorite was the Blaze and Ketch Mechanics sign in the alley leading to Dr Doom's Fearfall.

Marvel Superhero Island is a bit dated but that's due to being more about the 4 color comic books of the Kirby era than anything else. They updated Hulk really nicely and while I don't like the new story I really like the new queue and light effects the coaster has.

Oh, California? Call me when it's at the vastly superior Disney World in Orlando

Never gonna happen unless Disney pays Universal an absurd amount of money for them to abandon the license. Since the MCU started Universal has made a bunch of Avengers merch to capitalize on Disney's mistake.

This sounds like kind of a mediocre attraction thus far. They should probably wait until they have access to the X-Men characters.

Pretty sure disney owns all of marvel merchandising rights.
