Imagine if the company in question was Ubisoft instead of Rockstar.Funny, threads get plenty of replies when Jim goes after companies or games, but when he deviates from his supposedly "tired schtick" to cover different things like the treatment of employees in the industry, there seems to be nobody left to give a shit.
I mean, in my defense, I had to go searching for the topic. I'm shocked the usual Jim-blind-hate-brigade didn't descend upon the topic, but I guess even they agree supporting unions and humane working hours is the good and correct thing to do. Which is of course a positive, the more people who agree with that the better.Funny, threads get plenty of replies when Jim goes after companies or games, but when he deviates from his supposedly "tired schtick" to cover different things like the treatment of employees in the industry, there seems to be nobody left to give a shit.

A couple of rockstars employees said on Twitter that they weren't force to work crunch time yeah? While this may be true, what they didn't say is that they most likely got pressure to crunch.
I remember watching an extra credits video years ago that talked about working conditions in the industry and they said that game studios often look down on employees that leaves when they're shift is over and don't put in extra time. Some game studios almost make it a culture that if you leave at 6 o'clock, you're a "traitor" and you're holding everyone back. Combine that with tight deadlines and you got yourself a very toxic mindset.
So while crunch may be "optional", the pressure to do crunch is very real.
I mean, I just read the Schreier article earlier today and I can guarantee that it was far more informative and insightful, and with none of the self-aggrandizing theatrics Jim routinely employs.Funny, threads get plenty of replies when Jim goes after companies or games, but when he deviates from his supposedly "tired schtick" to cover different things like the treatment of employees in the industry, there seems to be nobody left to give a shit.

Might have something to do with the week of threads filled with discussion on this very topic that preceded this video?Funny, threads get plenty of replies when Jim goes after companies or games, but when he deviates from his supposedly "tired schtick" to cover different things like the treatment of employees in the industry, there seems to be nobody left to give a shit.
How about a summary so that everybody doesn't need to watch his act for 15 minutes?

Just watched it, good points, let's hope more devs start getting push back for crunch. I wish games stopped shooting for the stars with too much graphics or world sizes when they can't afford it (Rockstar can, and their main money maker is all about world building so they should have just hired even more people, or scaled back on the world a tiny bit).
How about you spend 5 minutes let alone 15 minutes to watch the video rather than hours arguing in JS topics when you feign that you don't even have 15 minutes to spare?
I love people on Era going into a topic with a video and then claiming they don't have time to watch it.

Show some effort: It's wonderful that you want to start a discussion, but being the Original Poster carries some responsibility to start things off on the right foot. If you're going to create a thread, try to include more content and care than one or two short sentences. Consider whether the thread will generate good discussion, and scrutinize any sources you decide to cite. Try not to create new threads based on tweets, jokes, conspiracy theories, poor sources or yes/no questions. Consistently low quality threads may lead to your thread making privileges being revoked. Thread making privileges will be restored after 6 months, subject to a review by staff.
