No no no seriously guys.. ignore when we said last time that destiny 2 is the game we wanted to make, this (destiny 3) is really really the game we wanted to make.. ugh.. too little too late. I gave up on the IP being interesting for me, I wanted an ever growing world and them to deliver that experience they promised before they released destiny and it has not even delivered 5% of that promise.

It was not universally trashed. Everyone who I knew playing it in real life loved it and continued to love it.

Game feel is the absolute most important thing for me, and Destiny 2 nailed that from the start. Sure, you can say that there were problems with progression and itemization, and that seems true, but that stuff never bothered me. I didn't want to sit doing nothing but playing Destiny all week.

My friends and I put in probably 70 hours when the game launched, had an amazing time, then moved on. This forum has a hate boner for Destiny 2, but many people loved it from the start.

Oh I know, but thinking about Europa makes me want to delve into that side of the lore more. I want it realised in the fantastic art direction they have. As it stands, Europa will do for now.

Can they just stick to one game over so many years? I rather play one game and have shit get carried over for years. So sick of having this timeline for a game and then everything i obtain in D2 is useful as fuck for week 3.

People listing how bad D2 got things wrong are missing the big picture. Forsaken wasnt a fix for D2, it was D2. What we got Y1 was the minimum viable product that they could ship in that timeframe after developing hell and multiple reboots. It was early acess. And I dont mean it in mean lazy devs way, but the true meaning of the word: The game was not finished. The expansions were cut content that was unfinished.

This is not true. You are wrong and do not understand the game in detail at all.

Most of the changes made to the game in Forsaken were not issues of cut content, but issues of design. If you look at D2 and look at all the changes that were reverted, you see two very clear, different design ethos at play. D2's design philosophy is meant for casuals; you get a Better Devils, cool, you got one. Now to move on to the next gun. You don't have to worry about what's a good roll or a bad roll.

The other day, I foolishly broke down my rapid hit/Rampage Duke Hand Cannon. D2's old system would have prevented me from that, babyproofing me from making such a stupid mistaken and feeling awful about it. But! D2 also gave me a rampage/outlaw Go Figure, so all is forgiven.

Most of the Forsaken changes make the game a bit more competitive. A bit less forgiving. Light level being a factor in Iron banner? That's for hardcore players. Random rolls? Hardcore players. on and on I could go.

Anyone who says "this was cut prior to release so it could be sold back to you as DLC" is almost definitely wrong. Except for Asura's Wrath, because that was an issue where they couldn't fit it on a dual-layer DVD so they cut it for size restrictions, then added it back later as DLC to sell. That happened.

I totally skipped Destiny 2, and haven't thought twice about getting back into it accept for now with black Friday around the corner. I really don't have the time for the grind, but is it any good now? My friends say it's alright, but quite a few of my friends bailed on D2

Damnit Bungie *rummages for credit card to buy Destiny 3*

As sad and pissed off I was about Destiny 2 after it's launch, they got me and I'm not going anywhere. Will be interested to see the single emblem and maybe shader they'll offer to D1 and D2 vets to show off in D3 while we re-grind for all our gear :(

I was under the impression that Destiny was intended to be a full blown GAAS game that ideally lasts for a decade or so, but uh I guess they're just going to release an entirely new game every few years.

Cool. I've been there since day 1 and I'll be there at day 1. Still playing Forsaken and really loving it.

It's a great game and they've built an incredible universe with some incredible lore.

its better to release full* games for $60 and be constantly in the press for video game sites about every little thing you do because its the cheapest marketing you can buy every few years when sales barely begin to dip so those charts have their arrows go straight back up. Activision are masters at this.

* = full can mean literally anything when it comes to Destiny.

I feel like people also misinterpret GAAS as a "game that last forever" when it's more about recurring engagement with the game and usually monetization accompanying that.

you will still have your shitty vanilla D2 systems if not for the 'whiners'. (Just as vanilla D1 with its nonsensical purple engram can be decrypt into blue items system until the whining corrected it among others)

Yes, the ResetEra destiny haters who mostly don't play the game beyond the story convinced Bungie to change the game's weak points. How could I forget. LOL

This is and isn't a surprise. More RPG elements is what the community has been clamoring for. Plus, if they made D3 exactly like D1 & D2 gamers at large would acuse them of making the same game for a third time.

I hope it has more RPG elements. The skill trees in Destiny are incredibly boring. I'd love to see some actual depth and more weird fantasy stuff.

The way their contract with Activision was made does them no favors with every game bring a hard reset and nothing to carry forward even if it's cosmetic only items as well as leaving sometimes great content behind because the developers didn't have the foresight to have that content scale in the future. Destiny could've been a model for all GaaS, instead it turned it into a meme. At least wtih Sony caving on crossplatform play we know that crossplatform progress and play for D3 should be a given.

I refuse to be excited for this, despite how cool it all sounds. When does this launch, ie, do they have time to scrap all the cool ideas and start over, releasing a game barely a shadow of what the original idea was again like they did with 1 and 2?
