This is the community thread for the mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Union χ [ CROSS ], where the pulls don't matter and we're always jealous of KHUX JP.

Where can I get it?
The game can be downloaded on both iOS App Store and Android's Google Play Platforms, which you can find through their respective icons:

Overview:
Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is a mobile game developed by Square Enix, based on the universe of the same name. The game is entirely canon.
Players are granted the opportunity to create their own character, customizable with outfits from both SE's properties, as well as Disney's. Progression is determined by story missions that unfold throughout various worlds in the KH universe, as you, a keyblade wielder, join one of the Foreteller's Unions to help fight against the darkness. You are accompanied by Chirithy, a dream eater that serves as your guide.

How does the game work?
The game is actually considerably deep for a mobage at first glance, but becomes easier in practice.

Basic Game Overview:
5Vt8Skm.png

  • Your character: It's you! Here, you can see your various stats, which are a general overview of your accomplishments at any given time. Among these, you'll see your HP, STR/DEF, Level (based on "LUX", a form of experience), your nova level (based on your guilt, more on this later), your weekly solo/party rankings, as well as your currently equipped keyblade/deck and your character's outfit.

  • Your Keyblade: Keyblades are the main weapon within the game, usually tied to your story progression, in both regular and proud mode. Each keyblade is aligned to the PSM trinity - divided into single, dual, and omni- (all) attributes. More info on these further below.

  • Your pet: Pets are a new mechanic added in the ver. 2.3.1 update. It allows the player to bring their pet (or "Spirit") along with them to battle, adding an extra medal slot to their deck. Pets are leveled by placing medals onto them (though this does not consider them "occupied" or "consumed"), and their level determines what tricks (abilities) they can use and what multiplier their slot will provide. Refer to the KHUX wiki's page about this topic for specifics regarding abilities, multipliers, etc.

  • Your deck: The "deck" is referred to as the placed medals on your keyblade, which can be anywhere from 0 (no medals placed) to 5 (all medals placed). Your deck is limited to the keyblade cost you have currently unlocked. You can obtain up to a maximum of 223 cost by leveling your character and/or purchasing avatar boards.

Stats, Currencies, IAP:
KHUX isn't without its fair share of IAP. The currencies listed below are used for very distinct purposes:
frOqLKM.png
Jewels: Use Jewels to get random Medals, increase your Medal storage capacity, fully replenish your AP gauge, max out your special attack gauge, etc. You can purchase Jewels at the shop or earn them as quest rewards and login bonuses.

dll95zP.png
Munny: Currency required to fuse Medals. Defeat enemies or sell your unwanted Medals and materials to get more munny.

h4gRaiF.png
Lux: earned from fighting raid bosses and completing quests; otherwise known as your EXP. Leveling up means you unlock more costumes/stats, so this is vital to your progression.

dAPyD0r.png
AP: Otherwise known as your "energy". Doing quests consumes AP, and running out of AP means you can't do anything until it recharges. You can spend jewels to refill AP (not recommended), and your AP refills whenever you level up.
A note on AP: Compared to the original release, KHUX has made it far easier to obtain EXP, and thus maintain AP. Furthermore, there are frequent "0 AP Campaigns", where the cost for everything is lowered to zero, therefore infinite AP. It's not often you need to keep an eye out for AP, versus "back then".

Navigating the Game:

cr7vcCR.png
  • Story: As the name states, allows you to select story quests, which let you experience the riveting collectathon your character's growth in the story filled with many familiar faces. This section also allows you to participate in Proud Mode, which is a harder version of the story with higher level rewards and keyblades!
  • Special: Usually reserved for quests that reward you with evolve medals, munny, adamantite, materials and other items typically used to enhance your keyblades/medals.
  • Events: This section is typically reserved for events that are either daily/weekly challenges, High Score Events, Raid Events, and proud quests.
  • Union Cross: Union Cross is the special multiplayer component for KHUX, that allows you to party up with up to 5 of either members of your party, or other members of the union you're allied to.
  • Coliseum: Unlocked after some progression, the coliseum is a gauntlet of battles that you'll be doing to achieve enough ranking to obtain new skills, typically the first time they're ever released.

Battle System:
The battle system relies on a rock-paper-scissors trinity system, in this case divided into Power, Speed and Magic attributes (or PSM for short).
zIuWCNP.png
Furthermore, you can do a standard attack in one of two ways:
2F26Nji.png
7zpYlJq.png

Nova:
04_05_icon01.png
Aside from this, you have special attacks (explained further below) and Nova. Tapping the button in the top right corner unleashes a Nova attack that deals damage to all enemies. This powerful attack can only be used once per quest, generally. Therefore, it's recommended you save it for a battle you know you'll need it for.
You acquire Nova after unlocking a medal's special attack bonus.

Medals:
Medals are the primary component to your weapons, placed in your deck.
YCggOw4.png

Medal utility is usually uncovered by their special attack. A special attack is unleashed by holding a medal during battle, and swiping it towards the center of the screen. These special attacks may fulfill different roles -- roles such as healing, buffing your damage, weakening the enemy, or simply doing large amounts of damage. Special attacks come with a cost, however, which is determined by the required gauges. Each keyblade has a maximum amount of gauges, and traits/skills will allow you to more efficiently utilize your special attacks.

Medal evolution:

Common medals, typically, start at 1-star rarity, and all medals end at 6-star rarity (highest rarity possible). In order to evolve a medal, you must max out the current medal's level, as well as have the necessary evolution materials for the particular medal. With each increase in rarity, the base stats and special attack multiplier will proportionally increase.

h5qPXwG.png

Special Attack Bonus (or Guilt):

Each medal is assigned a Special Attack Bonus tier (denoted by a symbol in the right-hand corner of the Sp. Atk. details window, and a number in the lower left corner of a medal). This bonus grants an additional +10%~+180% damage (as of writing) to your medal's special attack multiplier.
2I2qhjQ.png

The ranges for these bonuses are:

  • Tier 1: 10%~25%
  • Tier 2: 20%~50%
  • Tier 3: 40%~100%
  • Tier 4: 60%~130%
  • Tier 5: 80%~150%
  • Tier 6: 100%~180%
  • Tier 7: 120%~200%
In order to unlock the special attack bonus of a medal, you must fill all 5 dots (orbs), plus an additional medal (ergo, 6 copies of the medal, plus the initial one, for a total of 7).
It is important to note that you can only fill an orb/dot by using a copy of the same medal, of the same rarity (e.g. Pence A 5★ with another Pence A 5★ will net you the first one with a single dot).

Unlocking the special attack bonus, additionally, grants you +1 level to Nova. Maxing out a given medal (e.g. +25% on tier 1), will give you an additional +5 to your nova, for a maximum of +6.
Note: some medals, like the World of Final Fantasy, Copy Key Art series, and Tsum-Tsum are particular in that they give double Nova amounts (e.g. +2 for guilting, +10 for maxing, for a total of +12). These are typically pointed out in their release notice.
For the most efficient guilting process, refer to the FAQ.

Keyblades:

Ah yes, the one unmistakably Kingdom Hearts-esque part of the game. As mentioned previously, you start off with a single keyblade (Starlight), and then go on to unlock more as you progress through the story. Exceptions to this rule are the Proud Mode keyblades, which are unlocked by doing, well, the proud mode story, and the exception to the story rule, Moogle of Glory. This is done by completing a special quest, which I'll explain a bit later.
Note: U = Upright, R = Reverse; P = Power, S = Speed, M = Magic.

Starlight (Tri-color / Unlocked at start) : Starlight is the keyblade you begin with, a jack-of-all-trades setup with balanced multipliers throughout its upgrades. Being a tri-color, the deck loadout is comprised of MU / SU / PR / SU / MU. Although not considered one of the "best" keyblades, starlight is definitely a decent contender for your usual setups, granted that it features relatively high multipliers (2.4x+ at +35) and has a good color distribution. This will eventually be interchangeable with Stroke of Midnight, and almost assuredly replaced by Fairy Stars.

Treasure Trove
(Power / Unlocked at Main Story Quest 14) : This is your first keyblade unlock and subsequently the first of the focus-trios. It focuses on power, and has a deck loadout of U / R / U / U / R. You'll be forced to use this throughout the story as you progress, and it's recommended you at least get it to +20~+25. However, the keyblade itself offers weak multipliers, and will be easily replaced by dual-color and proud mode keyblades almost as soon as you obtain them.

Lady Luck
(Speed / Unlocked at Main Story Quest 24) : LL is your second unlock, and the Speed variant of the focus-trio. The deck loadout is distributed as U / R / U / U / R. Similar to TT, you'll be forced to use this to progress through the story, and it'll be your main speed keyblade for the first hundred or so missions. However, the keyblade itself offers weak multipliers, and will easily be replaced by dual-color and proud-mode keyblades almost as soon as you obtain them.

Three Wishes
(Magic / Unlocked at Main Story Quest 34) : TW is your third unlock, and the Magic variant of the focus-trio. The deck loadout is distributed as U / U / R / U / R. Similar to the previous two, you'll be forced to use this to progress through the story, and it'll be your main speed keyblade for the first hundred or so missions. However, the keyblade itself offers weak multipliers, and will easily be replaced by dual-color and proud-mode keyblades as soon as you obtain them.

Olympia (Dual [Power/Speed] / Unlocked at Main Story Quest 130) : Olympia is your first dual-color keyblade, comprised of Power and Speed. The deck loadout is SR / PR / SU / PU / SU. With this keyblade, you're also getting much higher damage output thanks to the higher multipliers, providing better damage opportunities with your medals. This keyblade, while decent, has a weird multiplier distribution (similar to a bell curve, since it drops on the last slot) and has limited viability when looking for the highest possible damage compared to other keyblades.

Divine Rose
(Dual [Magic/Speed] / Unlocked at Main Story Quest 433) : Divine Rose is your second dual-color keyblade, comprised of Magic and Speed. The deck loadout is MU / SR / MU / MU / SR. This keyblade is one of your priorities for damage, due to its significantly high multipliers - 3.0x at +35. For the most part, you'll be utilizing this keyblade for your High Score Challenge setups. More on this at the FAQ.

Moogle O' Glory (Dual [Power/Magic] / Unlocked via Special Quest) : Moogle O' Glory is your third dual-color keyblade, comprised of Power and Magic. MoG is a special keyblade, obtained specifically via a quest under your "special" menu. It's composed of powerful enemies and can only be upgraded by materials that are obtained in follow-up quests that have similarly high damage requirements (note: this might not be as difficult as it sounds with the current meta compared to original release). The deck loadout is PR / MU / PR / MR / PU. Similar to Olympia, the multiplier distribution is that of a curve and is primarily in the third and fourth slot, so it's not traditionally a go-to keyblade. Still, it's useful if you go through the process of upgrading it. Up to you.

Sleeping Lion
(Speed / Unlocked via Proud Story Quest 3) : The first in the proud mode series, Sleeping Lion is an upgraded version of Lady Luck, focused on Upright speed, rather than a balanced loadout. Speaking of which, the distribution is SU / SU / SR / SU / SU. Depending on your obtained medals, this may be a more favorable option, despite the more common HSC go-to medals being reverse speed (FB Xion, Xaldin B, etc), there's enough versatility to make this your main speed blade. It's worth noting that the multipliers are much higher than the traditional story keyblades, therefore you'll be looking at multiple 2.0x+ slots starting at SL+25 combined with higher SP gauge than the traditional color-focused keyblades.

Counterpoint (Magic / Unlocked via Proud Story Quest 103) : The second in the proud mode series, Counterpoint is an upgraded version of Three Wishes, focused on Upright Magic, rather than a balanced loadout. The distribution is MU / MR / MU / MU / MU. With the diversity in magic medals, counterpoint makes for a solid keyblade, combined with its high SP gauge count and high multipliers.

Stroke of Midnight
(Tri-color / Unlocked at Main Story Quest 595) : SoM comes in between proud releases, becoming the second tri-color keyblade. The loadout is balanced, featuring PU / MU / SR / MU / PR. The setup is favorable for early buffing and ending with copy medals, granted that the last slot works well with ones like HD Xion. Similar to the proud keyblades, the SP gauge count is high and you'll see a decent amount of 2.0x+ multipliers at SoM+25. A decent option, and can serve niche use compared to its successor, Fairy Stars.

Fenrir
(Power / Unlocked via Proud Story Quest 203) : The last of the upright trio, Fenrir is focused on power, bringing a much needed keyblade compared to the limited availability for power medals (e.g. Treasure Trove). The loadout is distributed as PU / PU / PU / PR / PU. With the medal availability that currently exists, this keyblade is indispensable for power-focused events. As with the others, it features a higher SP gauge count and high multipliers.

Darkgnaw
(Power / Unlocked via Proud Story Quest 328) : This is a contentious point, moving forward. Darkgnaw is the first of color-focused reverse keyblades. Not only that, they feature incredibly low SP gauge availability (~9 gauges at +25, 11 gauges at +35). To offset this, the keyblade has incredibly high multipliers (most of the slots have a 2.0x+ since before +20!!), with a staggering 3.0x multiplier on the last slot. The loadout is PR / PU / PR / PR / PR. Though difficult to build around, this keyblade (and the other colored counterparts) are extremely versatile, provided you have the skills to make it work.

Missing Ache
(Speed / Unlocked via Proud Story Quest 378) : Continuing the reverse trio, Missing Ache is a speed-focused reverse keyblade. It features low SP gauge availability and incredibly high multipliers. The loadout is SR / SU / SR / SR / SR. Given the high count of reverse speed medals, this keyblade could potentially be a strong option for builds requiring speed-focus, so long as you can work around the SP gauge issue.

Fairy Stars
(Tri-color / Unlocked via Main Story Quest 683) : This one throws us back to main story completion. As of writing, this is the de-facto tri-color keyblade, featuring high sp gauge, high multipliers, and a solid distribution capable of making diverse setups with the combination of copy medals. The distribution is PU / MR / MU / PR / SU. Meta will ebb and flow, but currently, this keyblade functions as an excellent multi-situation tool.

Diamond Dust (Magic / Unlocked via Proud Story Quest 428) : To finish up the reverse trio, we have Diamond Dust. Focused on reverse magic, this keyblade provides an opportunity to use all those organization medals, probably. The distribution is MR / MU / MR / MR / MR.

To upgrade a keyblade, you need materials which are generally specific to each one. Past a certain point, you will also need a special material called Adamantite. These are obtained via special quests that rotate on a weekly schedule (e.g. there's a different adamantite quest every day of the week, but they're all assigned to a specific day). These upgrades will take your keyblade from +21~+25.

That said, proud mode keyblades are an exception. The upright series are upgraded with Electrum Ore, while the Reverse series are upgraded with Dark Matter, all the way to +25.

After reaching the +25 goal on your keyblades, you have the option to push the limits of your keyblade and use gems. These gems are aligned to the PSM nature of your keyblade (power gem, speed gem, so on), giving you the ability to reach +35 (or higher, now). For proud modes, this also holds true, except that you must also utilize Sun Gems or Moon Gems for Upright and Reverse, respectively, on top of the required PSM gems.

FAQ:

  • Is this game essential to the story?
Arguably; the story is entirely canon and serves as [insert spoilers]. At least play the main story.
  • How is this game different from [insert mainline game?]
Well, besides everything in the above lines, Kairi's actually useful [ba dum tiss]
  • How should I guilt this medal?
Generally speaking, the most efficient way of guilting anything is using this handy-dandy guide.
  • Help! Should I use my Fantasia Mickey B on [x]?
That's subjective, my dude. Brooms and Mickey & Brooms are generally scarce because of the function they're designed to do. You should therefore utilize them solely on medals you feel will bring you a huge benefit to your current setups (medals with high guilt tier/premiums), or for medals that otherwise are incredibly hard to obtain (EX medals).
  • How's the gacha system in this game?
Fairly good compared to most out there. The banners feature a new medal, usually, every week (on rare occasions, two weeks), and the standard is that every pull from a banner guarantees at least one medal of tier 4 or higher guilt, "pre-strengthened" (read: already filled with) 1~3 dots/orbs. Most banners, with the exception of limited medals (EX) feature a "mercy" system -- this guarantees you obtain a specific featured medal after 'x' pulls. As of writing, the standard for the mercy pull is the fifth pull. Additionally, you may opt to go for the "falling price" banners, which may or may not feature a specific medal, but the cost per pull drops with each pull (usually goes from 3000 jewels to 1900 jewels). For those looking to catch up, or get the most "bang-for-buck", this is the way to go.
  • Are they generous with the currency for F2P?
Back in my day, we had to go uphill both ways to get enough jewels to pull ONCE!!! Yeah dude totally. The log-in bonuses are now matched to what those in Japan receive, and daily jewel missions are rotated every other week, which means that on average, you can net around 10,000 jewels a month (spitballin') with marginal activity. Additional to this, the Union Cross award coins that can be used to obtain medals, avatar parts, and jewels, which compound to your daily gain. Make sure to participate in these!
  • How Pay-to-Win is this game though?
Not at all! [nervously mouths the word 'help' with a nameless SQEX rep holding a gun to his head]
Thanks to the increased jewel gain and the immense power creep, story content is fairly easy to deal with, and shared medals are a huge help. For content such as High Score Challenges (HSC), you're generally in a bit of a bind. As long as you're smart about your pulls, though, they may not be impossible to accomplish.
  • I'm barely doing any damage though!
Listen man, sometimes I barely do damage, okay? okay. No, but really -- one of two things is happening. One, you haven't upgraded your keyblades! Keyblades provide huge boosts to the deck. The higher your keyblade's level, the higher the deck's multipliers. Two, you might not be buffing enough/correctly. Medal performance is heavily affected by your buffs, the enemy's debuffs, your medal's traits, and the enemy's level. You want to set your buffers first and end with your higher damage medals!
  • Can I use more than one Second Chance (SC) skill? And will they give me more lives?
So, technically-- yes, you can have two Second Chance procs on a fight, ever fight, provided your pet is high enough rank to give you "HP Recovery I" (their version of Second Chance) and any one of your medals has a Second Chance skill. Having multiple second chances on your medals won't really do much for you.
  • Do different Defense Boost skills stack?
So, yes and no? While you can have multiple medals with defense boost (say, DB2 and DB3), only one of them can activate per hit, and it won't always be the highest tier. So, say you're getting hit by an enemy that does five hits with the previous scenario: Defense boost 3 could proc all 5 times, or it could proc 3 times and two times DB2, or maybe neither of them proc on any given hit! It's all percentages, at the end of the day. If you wanted to know whether or not having a DB3 and a DB2 would mean their effects would add up, or increase multiplicatively, then the answer is no.
  • I see a bunch of people talking about a "Guilt Campaign". What the hecc is it?
Guilt campaigns are special, rare, limited-time events, where your guilt minimum is raised so you at least have a better guaranteed amount of guilt on a roll. To specify, I'll be referencing Ava's post:

Special Attack Bonus Tier | Normal Range | Campaign Range
oIdHNBIMD
Tier 7 | +120~200% | +160~200%
oVccN1BW1
Tier 6 | +100~180% | +140~180%
oDVhN7Fpit
Tier 5 | +80~150% | +100~150%
oeZUNVRmB
Tier 4 | +60~130% | +90~130%
oHQsNEP21
Tier 4 | +40~100% | +70~100%
oHQ6N4KbF
Tier 2 | +20~50% | +30~50%
oeZ1NePw6
Tier 1 | +10~25% | +15~25%

In short, instead of rolling a +40% on a T3, your minimum roll is a +70%. As a result, these campaigns are highly sought out by the community, as they alleviate a fair amount of RNG (but you can still get unlucky, I guess).

Did I miss anything? Do you have any questions you'd like to see on the main post?
Send me a message or tell anyone to reach out to me and I'll gladly edit the post!

Didn't post in the thread on the old forum, but I had been lurking a bit recently. I just started playing Union X in early September, and I've gotten pretty addicted to it. Currently up to Quest 620 and having a lot of fun with the game, especially since some story stuff has started happening more recently for me. Now I just need to get some better Power medals, because that team is really lagging.

I am still not done with the current story quests. And I barely play at the moment.

Welp, not that it matters, I don't pull good medals anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I LIVE! Also, use this image in the OT to help people.
I'm a little iffy on using this because, while it's useful for guilting purposes, the trait system goes against this ideology - unless I make a disclaimer regarding traits before then. Either way, I still got a lot to write up.

It works fine for 1-trait medals (most of them), because you'd only need to change which one is the base medal. I agree it poses problems for multi-trait medals though.

IIRC, most multi-trait medals don't come at low ranks anyways, so it's not as big of an issue with them.

Not a fan of these damage contests. Not only do you need guilted tier 5 and above medals, but you need either ground or aerial defense traits.

And the fact that the rewards are Fantasia Mickey B medals is just a slap in the face since the people getting them are people that don't need them.

Oh well.

They are definitely not for everyone. I barely managed to do 1.7m, but I don't see myself reaching 2m, much less 2.5m. That sort of damage is only achievable by people with like, SephEX's or XionEX's.

Guilted ones, even.

I've merged the two threads together and deleted a couple of posts that ended up between the two OPs. Next time, please work out before hand who will be claiming a particular OT before hand. Thanks!

I was under impression there wasn't going to be an OT made besides mine and was caught equally off-guard. Sorry for the hassle (and also, thanks for the quick fix!)

I was able to hit 2.2 million using a slew of guilted medals on counterpoint but with no EX to call my own that's probably the best I can hope for. Right now I'm hovering around rank 500. Don't know if I can hold on to top 1000 but one Fantasia Mickey B should be in the bag.

The defense down traits and general defense debuff aren't too important here. The enemies are only level 100 so there's not much in the way of defense to decrease. Maxing out general strength and PSM buffs/debuffs are really the key here.

This must be their solution to the coliseum screw up.

In all seriousness though I doubt they'd skip ahead that quickly, they never release new medals on a Monday, and an unmerciable Kairi EX doesn't really fit the description of "something good" in my eyes. My guess is they'll announce something people have been asking for like making the daily jewel quest permenant or voiced medals.

They might decide to dole out the Foreteller EXs slower than JP did, hence Ava being pushed up a bit in the lineup?

Alternately they may be about to open the floodgates and rush a bunch of medals out over the next few weeks so they can offer Kairi as part of this year's Black Friday deal.

Yup. I think I've done around 40-50 pulls across all banners where an EX was available and have yet to get even one.
