Despite the memes, Knack 2 is a genuinely good game for children.

Knack 2 is a genuinely good game.

A friend of mine bought it for me due to my extreme reluctance to give it a shot despite his urging and I loved it. Knack 1 is objectively awful and uninspired, but 2 is an inventive, fun, and well-paced platformer. The story and character art are not good, but the game a is a lot of fun. Definitely one of the most underrated games of this generation and deserves to be a cult classic.

it'd be a good occasion to make another joke about British tastes but those poor fellas already have it tough enough with the Brexit deal actuality so not this time
Knack 2 bombed in the UK so we're alright :)

Yes. It's literally designed for children. The first game even acted as an introduction to the DualShock for complete newcomers. Edit: I mean this as a good thing.

The entire lineup is absolutely ridiculous. I didn't even love Mario Odyssey as much as most people here, but fuck if it isn't a better game than any of these, especially for kids. The real unforgivable omission is Labo, though, unless the time frame doesn't match.

Mario Odyssey (very likely) wasn't nominated because the awards require the party to pay an entry fee to join up and, as such, would have required Nintendo to actively go out of their way to enter their games into the awards. It won best Family Game in this year's regular gaming BAFTAs, and Mario + Rabbids was nominated for that category as well, so for it to not be nominated here on the basis of quality alone doesn't add up.

See above. It's not the year that excluded Mario Odyssey but (very likely) a lack of attention placed on the Children's BAFTAs by Nintendo.

I never thought I see a title like that.

Although, I do genuinely like the Knack series even if it can be repetitive. The Co-Op on 2 really made the game for me.

I bought it when it was on sale a few months back after I had too many drinks one night.

Sober me was pleasantly surprised with it a few days later. If there's ever a third, I'd pick it up.

Side note: I do appreciate that this game does try to integrate social aspects into a single-player campaign (sharing and trading with the secret chests for gadget pieces). That little feature is fairly useless but it somehow made me happy every time I saw it. I wish more games did it.

Knack 2 is honestly a good game that I really enjoyed--enough to get the Platinum. Loved the combat, platforming, and secret treasures--many of which are cleverly hidden.

It's like the gameplay of Knack but with the story of Transformers!

nintendo probably didn't submit it for consideration, i don't know how important/prestigious this award is.
this isn't the actual BAFTA game awards, that happened in april. odyssey won best family game and best game design, and was nominated for best game.
this is BAFTA children's awards, awards dedicated to children's media (game/film/books/etc). here's a list of past winners in the game category in children's BAFTA:
  • 2007: Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party
  • 2008: Lego Batman: The Videogame
  • 2009: LittleBigPlanet
  • 2010: Rabbids Go Home
  • 2011: Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game
  • 2012: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
  • 2013: Skylanders: Giants
  • 2014: Mario Kart 8
  • 2015: Splatoon
  • 2016: Lego Dimensions
  • 2017: Pokémon Go
this year's nominee list seems pretty bad tho, i guess most publishers aren't submitting their games anymore. stuff like crash and odyssey would have been there otherwise.

Don't games have to have a British crew in them for being elegible for a BAFTA?
doesn't seem like it, since mario kart and splatoon have won previously. again, this isn't the bafta game awards, this is the game category in bafta children awards, focusing on media for children.

Having fully played the game in co-op on hardest difficulty with my girlfriend, i got to sey this was very good, best co-op combat gameplay i've seen in a game. My 3th best co-op game on ps4 after overcooked 1 and EDF 4.1

I bought the PS4 knack launch bundle because it was the only one they had.

This is my fault.

I'm sorry.

This can only seal the deal for the announcement of Knack 3 at E3 next year. I look forward to Mark Cerny's triumphant return to the stage.

Just wanted to give Knack 2 some praise.

My girlfriend has a 5 year old, and I had Knack 1 through PS Plus.
He loved the first one, but the game was a bit of a nightmare to play with him...too challenging, and it had poorly implemented coop mechanics.

Then we got tried the demo for the the second game and the difference was night and day (went out and bought a copy of it that same day). So many little quality of life touches in regards to coop play with young ones.
In the first game, player 1 was the focus, forcing player 2 to follow or stay. Not so in the second.
Part two adds a button that allows either player to warp directly to the other player, making tricky platforming sections a breeze.
These are just a few of the improvements over part 1.

My only real complaint is the QTEs and how they require both players to accomplish them, having an option to auto complete them, à la the new Spider-man game would have been a nice addition.

The game is a blast to play with him, which really impressed me, as many of the other games for "young" players are either cheaply made games based on IPs kids know, or they are too challenging (the Lego games for example).

Knack 2 is a legit good game. I wish the Knack hate stops :(
Yup took the words right out of my mouth. Knack 1 was indeed very mediocre, but popping in Knack 2 felt like I was playing Spyro or Ratchet for the first time again. It's really something special. Still very simplistic in a lot of ways, but also very creative, especially with the size gimmick. It's a really solid game for sure.

I got Knack 2 for free with the PSN price error. I ended up buying the game for my main account, it's a good game, just a tad long for my taste, but my nephews loved it.

Mario + Rabbids is a better game though.

Knew exactly how this thread would go before I even clicked it.

Add me to the chorus that Knack 2 is a great 3D platformer/brawler, and one of the most improved sequels I've ever played. The stages are varied, quick and fun, the combat always evolving, the difficulty well-balanced, and the platforming always present and challenging. I'll even go as far as saying that the final act is one of my favorites of this gen, with one stage in particular being one of the most clever, Mario-esque gaming moments not in a Mario game.

It's not a 10 out of 10. It's not an Odyssey. But does everything have to be? Why is everything below a 10 shit? It's a budget 8.5 game, and the return of the rock solid AA-title, but folks gotta get in to a hatred circle-jerk instead of giving one of the most pleasantly surprising 3D platformers on consoles a shot.

And NO the demo did NOT do it justice.

But seriously, jokes aside,is the second game actually good?
Yes. Read above. Or most posts from people who have actually played the game here.

Knack 2 is actually legitimately a good game. I was surprised because I wasn't expecting that. It's genuinely fun and a really well made platformer. Solid 8. Knack...is not. So I'm down with this. I hope it wins just because that actually would be amazing. But I'm not really surprised at this thread nor the way this thread is going considering it's this place and what kind of topic we're in...attracts the usual group of individuals and creates nonsense for no reason.

I was not expecting nothing out of the game, i came out surprized by it and found it an actual good game. Maybe not a Bafta winner game, but still good if you like a family oriented action platformer. While the story was too childish for my tastes, i had some fun with the combat system especially in the boss battles.

They need this printed on the box when it reaches triple platinum sales and gets released as a classic title.
