There are 3 broad flavors of competitive Tetris, roughly summarized:Also why is it always that version of tetris? Does anyone know?
They're playing head-to-head for score.
So if you had your way, having an opinion on esports = warnable, but insulting other users directly is perfectly OK.Yo mods, can whining about the word "esports" be a warnable offence now? It's essentially just thread whining/shitposting.
The commentators mentioned RNG a lot, though. And I'm 99% sure that CTWC employs some kind of homebrew trickery to ensure that both players receive identical piece sequences and remove RNG from the equation.
I feel confused as heck watching that. What's the "twist" that makes what they were doing hard? The older player just seemed to give up? I mean it can't be the speed at which they play, because you can go on youtube and find hundreds if not thousands of videos where people play tetris at a completely different speed, this looks like slowmotion compared to that
There's RNG that determines the piece sequence itself, but manual intervention to prevent the two players from getting different sequences.

By what logic?I should have clarified. "sport"? It's two people playing separately against the computer. By that logic, my mom is an athlete because she plays Peggle. At least with Overwatch or Gears or LoL or whatever, it's a squad, communicating, and it's more complex than this. I just think in general the whole "esports" thing is dumb, more so in this case when it's someone playing solo on their own.
"sport" = an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature
The OP literally doesn't use the word sport. You're bringing a separate argument in this thread for no reason. Are competitions in non-athletic persuits not allowed? Should we cancel chess tournaments now? You're using nonsense logic and being a needless hater.I should have clarified. "sport"? It's two people playing separately against the computer. He knows about Tetris a lot, and the tournaments are getting bigger and bigger every year. Why is James Chen there?
Not that I'm complaining, he is a great caster, I love how calm is his voice most of the time, except for the times that the hype really makes it necesary to start shouting, also, he seems like a stand up guy with lots of knowledges without being an ass
You accused me of shitposting. Funny how you didn't mention that in this latest post. I doubt that counts as "respectful and polite".Remind me where I directly insulted you? Unless you're insinuating that you jumping into a thread about esports to complain about the existence of esports, the literal definition of threadwhining, is apparently a "direct insult"
Why not? The game is flawless so this is way more of an esport then any other game in my book. Its purely skill basedI cannot take something like this seriously as "esport". Come on.

The OP literally said, "every esport player should aspire to". I had no idea people here were so sensitive about this. I haven't mentioned it since. The OP literally doesn't use the word sport. I think this was brought up in this video:
Gameplay differences aside, the latency of GB/Nes Tetris is probably lower than most later versions.
Esports clearly aren't sports, and you provided a definition of the word sport. It's less about being sensitive and more about calling out needless haters. The OP literally said, "every esport player should aspire to". I had no idea people here were so sensitive about this. I've heard from people who have claimed to attend that they play on a modified version of the game with an option to select one of 1000 or so distinct piece sequences. The two players in a match are instructed to select the same sequence. Is this a setting in the game or somewhere else?
https://thectwc.com/rules/
- Once the starting level is chosen, the ref will roll dice to determine the piece sequence.
- The players will set their games to the rolled sequence and the agreed upon level and push start simultaneously at the prompt of the referee. Referees will settle any disputes.
I had to look this up as well. Apparently, instead of holding down on the dpad to speed up your piece placement, you very rapidly tap down. I'm not sure but I think it makes more course corrections possible when the game speeds up.Awesome video. Feel like the main interviewer was going to tear up at one point. Really gracious and humble stuff.
By the way, what is hyper tapping?
Faster Tetris games scale how fast you can move the pieces left and right as the game gets faster, NES Tetris does not (I could be wrong), so once the game hits a certain speed the pieces drop faster than you can move them to the side. This is why the commentators mentioned frequently about Joseph's advantage in using "hyper tapping" that the otherwise more experienced Jonas hadn't learned to do because it allows you to move pieces faster than the speed of holding down the directional buttons which was an immense advantage in high speed levels (and I believe Joseph is historically one of the first to actually reach Level 32 because of this?)I feel confused as heck watching that. What's the "twist" that makes what they were doing hard? The older player just seemed to give up? In the NES tetris soon as a piece touches the ground it lockes in place as well. The modern versions give you a little time to slide/spin afterwards.I assume the NES Tetris is more awkward to control. Seems like horizontal movement is really slow.
