I honestly cannot remember the last Electronic Arts game that I cared about.

If you don't love Fifa, Madden, or Battlefield/front...there just isn't a lot to like. And I use to be a huge fan of the brand.

Its like they know they need to be known for more, but can't figure out how to get there.

Leaving, or fired? Sounds more like the latter. That's a sudden "departure" and there are few kind words there other than the generic thanks and best wishes.

This is big news. The title she was working is supposed to be a big deal so her departure is side eye worthy.

Hope she goes back to Ubisoft btw

She worked on Splinter Cell Blacklist iirc and it was amazing. I miss her being at Ubi.

Wasn't she working on a Star Wars project ?

What the hell are they doing with the Star Wars IP at EA ?

Say what you will about the battlefront games, atleast DICE managed to release them. Not a single other studio has managed to release their star wars games under EA.

How long has Motive been a thing?

I feel like it was one of EA's big bullet points coming into this generation. And now we are at the end and they still seem like they are 5 years away from shipping anything.

That hiring sure produced a lot of content. Good job, EA.

I have nothing against Raymond, she got way too much shit for things that weren't even her fault, but the fact EA made a big deal about hiring her and letting her build her own team and nothing has come of it in several years is just...woof.

I hope she finds a new role soon.

Well Amy Henning was making a new SP game until EA decided that SP games are not good anymore

That wasn't Raymond fault.

4 years

From Wikipedia it seems they only collaborated in Battlefront II and are working on that new Star Wars game.

Not an impressive resume considering the amount of talent that worked and is still working there.

Hoping for the best tho!

This is good or bad? Are she in charge of Sims mobile?

Eh, I'm pretty excited about Anthem.

Didn't even know she went to EA. I saw her in the Assassin's Creed Identity video and thought she was still at Ubisoft over big things, most likely at the very top not having to work on the games anymore.

Seems weird to be in this much trouble when the game isn't supposed to be out for years.
For more context, Motive (Montreal) wasn't only working on Jade Raymond's big new IP. They also made the single-player campaign for Battlefront 2 and had some other things in the works. They absorbed the remnants of BioWare Montreal last year and, from what I've heard, lost a lot of top staff throughout 2018, including a big exodus in March or April of this year. I don't know why but have heard various stories from both happy and unhappy employees there.

There's also now a Motive studio in Vancouver (formerly EA Vancouver I believe), which is working on a Star Wars open-world game, if that helps clear up some confusion. I'm sure there are shared staff across both studios.

Now I need to get off this website and focus on that other gargantuan story!

Sweet Christmas. Is EA management really this bad? They made such a big thing about hiring Jade that for her to leave at this stage is troubling. Especially given the apparent issues with every non-EA Sports game coming out of EA lately.

I'm never one to jump on the EA hate train, but this is incredibly worrisome.

Did she ship any game in the last decade?(serious question)

They did the campaign for Battlefront II.

I honestly cannot remember the last Electronic Arts game that I cared about.

Its like they know they need to be known for more, but can't figure out how to get there.

They don't actually release much anymore besides the sports arsenal and it's part of why they are operating at such high profit levels. I think that's why Capcom (a similar enough company overseas) is aiming to release 3 games a year from now on...

Isn't this similar to what happened with Amy Hennig? I feel for these prolific developers who spearhead a new initiative and then depart before the company has any mentionable output.

It's not that uncommon in big business? Maybe it's just unfamiliar to people here because typically in the game industry it hasn't gone that way, but we are in an age where pretty much all of the popular games are from giant corporations that continue to grow and one person just doesn't have the same impact that they used to...

EA sounds all kinds of terrible for game developers and artists. It's like where you go if you want to mass produce focus-tested derivative GaaS to gouge consumers. It's like a great chef working for McDonalds.

I refuse to buy any of their products.

What about A Way Out? or Unravel?

They sometimes do a lot of good for indie studios.

I was under the impression that Jade Raymond was an expert on getting brand new AAA teams from no one to fully functional machines. Like that's what she specialized in.

Like how Rod Ferguson is the guy they bring in when AAA/AAAA games are stuck in development hell and they need someone to hack and chop and refine and reorganize to get it out the door.

Huh. A looooot of people have left EA Motive this year.

Anything you can elaborate on? IIRC remember correctly from your Visceral feature they were going to reuse what was left of Hennigs project for a new SW game?

Edit: never mind, missed your earlier reply, looking forward to the Rockstar article!

Are you sure about that? Both producers fighting for money and resources. Jade probably said, "Hey EA, look over here, our staff work for a fraction of the price of those folks in California. Give me all that responsibility and power please." Project moves from Cali to Montreal, Hennig is out. 2 + 2 = ...

Jade is better off. EA is trash. I guarantee whatever she does next she will enjoy more.

From what I remember the game had a lot of problems but they were finally getting around them and the team was finally on track.
They weren't - they didn't have much to show for the work and senior staff had already seen where the wind was heading and left to new jobs - if staff end up starting to leave cus they can see where the development is heading, it's by definition , not on track.

I remember EA making a huge deal out of hiring her a couple or years ago or so, something must be up with that studio if she is leaving.

I didn't think EA Motive had a Star Wars project, I thought it was EA Vancover who took over the stuff from Amy Hennig's team? EA Motive were working on their new IP?
