Finished the season last night. The last season touched on this but this one really ramped up on actually introducing a lot of themes/critiques of modern youth culture. It did so while still maintaining a lot of humor/jokes too, and of course the plot still wrapped up super nicely at the end.

Agreed with a few others that season 3 could be an even more radical departure. I mean, the title is "American Vandal" so it would probably have to be a prank in some way again, but a college campus would make a lot of sense.

The scene in ep. 6 with

the confrontation with Demarcus and Lou

is really great. Great acting too.

Just finished the season, what a great show this turned out to be. Think I even enjoyed the 2nd season just a bit more than the 1st. Love that the show has such a silly premise but it does actually feel like a true crime story.

Bring on a 3rd season!

I consider S1 a 10/10, and after wrapping this one up last weekend, this falls into a solid 9/10. Loved it the entire way through. I thought it was a less funny, but certainly a bit more gripping. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. DeMarcus and Kevin and the super religious kids were my favorite new characters - so good.

First season was good but second was great. Started slower for sure but damn, those last few eps were the best for sure.

Just finished it. I liked season 1 but this one is on another level. Top5 Netflix original shows and probably one of the best pieces of satire in recent memory. Heavy and touching stuff at the end, the actors were all great, specially DeMarcus (he should honestly be nominated for something). Can't wait to see what they tackle next.

How well the acting is in S2 took me by surprise. Yes, the jokes were great but it was also heavy, really sinister plot at the end.

Best part for me was DeMarcus explaining how he acts at his hood vs St. Bernadine tho lmao.

I agree. I think the only thing that made s1 a little better to me is that I found s1's crime (dick drawings) a little funnier than s2's (poop). But holy smokes this was definitely worth the weekend binge. Great acting from the guys who played DeMarcus and Kevin, the leads were still spot-on, and just like s1 behind the silliness is an actually engrossing mystery. The reveal that it was all
a catfishing scheme
in the end took me pleasantly by surprise.

After the whole Christa Carlyle/Van Delorey wrap-up from s1 I thought it was funny that they kind of set up
Tanner Bassett (TB)
as a red herring. I knew it couldn't be that easy.

And just like the first season it ends with a heartfelt message and pertinent commentary on how things are nowadays with social media and everything. Everyone should watch both seasons.

This is a great show, but there's a tiny little thing about the finale that rubbed me the wrong way

Peter straight up caused "The Dump" by alerting Grayson before going to the police, just so the doc could have a dramatic moment. Unlike the callout he received in season 1, there's really no mention of it here.

I interpreted Lou and Demarcus's yelling at them when Peter went to see them as them being pissed about the dump

Would anybody know that before they could see it in the show?

Just finished this. On balance I think this is better than season 1. It's a lot less funny, but I thought the overall narrative was a lot stronger and it had almost immaculate plotting.

I think that there's a really strong through-line leading into season 3 in
really deconstructing the carnage Pete and Sam cause with their investigations. I was very disappointed they didn't go into how "The Dump" could probably have been entirely avoided if Pete and Sam had been responsible and gone to law enforcement, but it gives them more material to work with next season, I guess.
.

Probably the best show I've seen this year (I'm trying really hard to think of anything else I've watched that aired this year other than WW and Legion season 2, and I enjoyed this a lot more), and easily the best programming on Netflix, period.

Binged season 1 and this season over the past two days. A lot to process

I feel for Dylan in season 1, he brings a lot of humanity to the role that very easily could have just been "stoner loser".

I like Pete and Sam, Pete definitely got the better role, it truly doesn't feel even in who gets to do what and how in both seasons. Hopefully that gets rectified in season 3

Favorite character from season 2 is DeMarcus, kid steals every scene he is in.

On the opposite side of the coin is Kevin, who reminded me too much of people I knew EXACTLY like him in catholic high school.

Finished it last night. Loved it. The first few episodes were really lacking Peter and Sam though. It focuses a lot on the police officer and those interviews which was ok but once peter and Sam started to do their thing it was 100 times better

I really hope S3

It took me a bit of time to get around watching this because I was sure that after the first season was surprisingly enjoyable given the premise that the follow up season would miss that magic and at best be decent.

I'm quite happy to be wrong. That was great.

Finally got around to watching this and it was great.

One idea for season 3 would be

An antagonist who deliberately engineers pranks/crimes to attract the Vandal crew's attention. It forces them to reckon with the consequences of being so overtly public with their investigations. A criminal who has watched the first two documentaries can figure out ways to elude them; for example, by exploiting Peter's willingness to jump to conclusions and confront the wrong suspect.

Just binged Season 2. Goddamn what a great series! I never would have thought that a show about dick drawing and pants shitting could have such a strong message. I nearly teared up at the end of this season.

Didn't notice there was a thread for it. I remember when this was announced I didn't think they would be able to catch lightning in a bottle twice but they did it. They were able to deliver some more critiques on the criminal justice system and society in general all while circling an absurd premise. Fuck it, I'm in for whatever season 3 is.

Just finished season 2. Good stuff.

It wasn't very funny at all though. I remember season 1 being both funny and compelling and then you get invested in the characters but it is still also funny. This season is more of a drama. I mean, the Brownout would actually be kind of traumatising, so I wasn't even laughing at the silliness of the crimes it was more 'wow, gross'. There is some humour in the writing, like with DeMarcus insulting and complimenting people at the same time, but my reaction was more 'i can see how that is funny' rather than me actually just laughing.

Kevin is an important character in pointing to what makes this show good. You do not see people like him on TV or movies - who are weird, but weird in a realistic way. This is the kind of weird that you actually meet in life, not blown out of proportion or simplified down to caricature. He's a pretentious, lonely, affected tea-drinking weirdo who is both a bit of a dick and kind of endearing at the same time.

So, in the absence of much comedy, the early stretch of the season wasn't doing it for me as much, but by the time the story gets rolling and you know all of the characters, it gets good and ends at its best.
