I just want 343 Industries to open a second Studio/Team and start bulding a new universe for us to enjoy.

I'm not talking about leaving Halo behind, because we are getting 3 more games minimum (including Infinite). I just love Halo, but at some point it has to end. I don't really think Halo should survive another 17 years.

I'd like 343 Industries to explore a new IP where they can go crazy and do what they want without anyone going mad.

Put Joe Staten as the head of that team and let them do what they love.

Is this not kinda the point in The Initiative? No reason this needs to be 343i.

How would you guys feel about Ninja Theory having a team dedicated to making Hellblade games set in different periods, with different protagonists and themes, as a means of essentially replacing what Ryse could have been had Crytek played ball?
That actually sounds amazing and would compliment Game Pass too. I'm just imagining Nordic, Egyptian, Indo-Asian settings with mythical backdrops.
You confusing them with Sumo Digital?

Splash Damage isn't working in Crackdown, it is Sumo Digital. And I wouldn't blame Sumo for Crackdown3 delays. MS announced it way too soon and the game changed developers alot.
Sorry guys, yes its Sumo! My main takeway from it is that they are too large for an acquisition to be worthwhile/beneficial.

MS just acquired Playground who have a team onboard forza and another team on something else (being built anyway)

Splash Damage have a Gears 5 team and Gears Tactics team, from this perspective they could have the other parts of the studio work on games in their speciality, ms don't have a f2p fps, they also quite adept at the stuff they do with third person gears. I don't think ms limiting themselves to fps = halo and TPS = Gears was ever a very logical plan anyway.

Investment companies are there to grow in value their acquisitions and sell, it would be a big acquisition for ms in terms of headcount and cost and unfortunately I don't think it's likely but they could still add quite a lot to ms so I don't think it's impossible.

Their parent company also hoped dirty bomb would be pretty big as well which it's not and they have a lot of contract work on with gears and wargaming stuff so I'm not exactly sure how well it's all going from that perspective

I think it's a shame 343i will probably never move on from Halo. I find it really frustrating because I see a studio so stacked with talent that it feels like it'd be a waste if they were never allowed to branch out and handle a second IP. Halo clearly isn't what it used to be. I'm excited for the online potential with Game Pass essentially eradicating barriers to entry, but from a SP perspective, it's a damn shame.

I don't think there's any reason why 343i shouldn't be able to have a second IP to alternate similar to how Naughty Dog is handling two extremely successful IP at the same time.

I feel the same way about Coalition. I'm excited about what they can bring to Gears, but I think it'd be incredibly exciting if they were allowed to have a 100 man team or so dedicated to reviving the Shangheist IP to alternate with Gears releases.

That actually sounds amazing and would compliment Game Pass too. I'm just imagining Nordic, Egyptian, Indo-Asian settings with mythical backdrops.

100%.

Hellblade was so compelling that it's almost a shame knowing Ninja Theory will likely head up a big budget IP next. Senua's story was important to me and left me thoroughly impressed. I think, considering how they made Senua's Sacrifice with such a small team, they could probably even make sequels (timed?) exclusives to Game Pass to drive up subscriptions. They really wouldn't have to grow much beyond a little more polish. The most important thing would be telling compelling stories. If they released a new Hellblade like every 2-3 years, I'd be satisfied with that. Give me a game set in Mayan times about the struggle around faith against a backdrop of violence and human sacrifice. I want a redemption tale of a disgraced samurai in 16th or 17th century Japan. There are so many different kind of stories I would trust the Hellblade Team to be capable of telling. They wouldn't all have to have religious backdrops or deal with mental illness, they could essentially re-invent the franchise each time with clean breaks in standalone stories.

If we never see a Hellblade again, it's all good, I have faith in Ninja Theory, but I'm just saying having a team of 20-30 developers working on this as an alternating IP with Ninja Theory's next project seems too good to pass up to me.

The Halo universe is so broad that I don't think it's necessary. You could do nearly any genre and a smaller, more focused sci-fi story would be far better than the "single AI dominating the universe" primary storyline that's going on now.

In other words, all for 343 branching out but it would be more marketable within the Halo universe.

I don't think that 343i ever need to leave Halo behind. The Master Chief Halo FPS, maybe, eventually, but Halo is such a rich universe at this point, we haven't even scratched the surface of interesting stories that could be told in it or engaging gameplay scenarios that could be explored. I wish for another Halo series or two, and not just as smaller scale side-projects, but something that could stand tall alongside what we now consider mainline Halo, or even overtake it in popularity the way that Forza Horizon overtook Motorsport. Whether it's a Halo Mass Effect-like RPG with a whole new cast or something entirely different, I think the potential is there. Microsoft often compare Halo to Mario in that sense, and sure enough, 2D Mario, different 3D Marios, Mario RPG, Mario kart racer, now even Mario strategy game - they're all big and important, and then there are smaller Mario projects like sports games, party games, puzzle games, various spin-offs... I want the same for Halo, I love that universe, and I don't want it to go away.

Where would 343i take Halo though?

I've always thought an RPG could work, but the problem here is that 343i has done so much digging in the past that, even if, say, they would create a Mass Effect like series that followed humanity's war with the Forerunners and the Flood, etc. - what would be the point of all that? We already what happened. I suppose they could try and tell a personal story set in those times that isn't necessarily about a failed attempt to save humanity, but would that work?

As of now it seems the only way forward is to go forward and set a new series in the franchise centuries later perhaps.

A brand new chapter in the Halo story taking place centuries later. But, what then, would they still feel obligated to bring back Halo installations somehow as the universal threat, would that just feel like a retread to some?

I suppose they could do a step "sideways" like Mass Effect: Andromeda, but then you run the risk of upsetting fans that believe Chief should be the only hero of his time and introducing a new protagonist of equal or close importance undermines that.

The biggest question remains what to do with Master Chief. Should 343i turn him into Doom Guy and just keep bringing him back, or should Halo move on beyond Chief?

I think Halo can live on without Chief, I just don't know if it should, or in what incarnation, and whether or not it could work without taking a significant break before breathing new life into the IP.

So many options. Don't follow the main story. Doesn't have to follow the most up to date time period.

-Back stories with under powered marines.
-Sci-fi horror against the flood.
-Could create a bounty hunter squad.
-Go back in time to when the Covenant first invaded.
-Go way, way back in time to before the Halo rings were built

Lots of story angles. Any genre.

I've always thought a dramatic shift to another genre is what the series needs, like 3rd person, I've always thought a Division-esque game in an open world would be pretty cool.

For now I just hope they fix the damn convoluted storyline. The lore has really taken a dip in the last 2 entries.

I think 4's story was great. 5 is where the mainline story took a hit, imo.

Maybe a little off topic but something I've been wondering for awhile. What happens to the studio revenue for digital sales for a studio that has closed down? Like, where is the revenue that would normally go to TellTale going now?

3rd person Halo probably wouldn't work. Bungie tried it with Halo 1 and they switched it back to first person because first person was more fun.

I think after Infinite 343 should definitely consider having two teams, one that goes off and makes a new IP, while the other team puts out a spin-off every 3-4 years, there's so much potential, I'd personally love to see them do a game based on Harvest, but a 3rd person Halo could also be really cool if done well, I'd love to see something similar to the fan mock up that's been circulating for a while:

I've always liked the idea of a spiritual successor to Crimson Skies set in either the Halo or Gears universe with new characters and a cool story that takes place in a different time/pace than the other games.

Spinoffs? lol they should first try to knock it out of the park with the main game first. A couple iterations later and still waiting. I feel Infinite is make or break. Both SP/MP need to be great.

See, I don't lnow if going back in time is the right move. I'm sure it can work, but right now I'm struggling to think of good examples of when a franchise has ever had great success going backwards.

I feel like going back would simply shrink the universe in none too meaningful ways. Of course, Halo lends itself Dead Space esque survival horror games that could work in any time period, but is that what you'd put a studio the scale of 343i on?

A studio of that size surely would be expected to carry on in a big way. Maybe multiple, Dead Space sized projects could be developed simultaneously in the Halo universe, 343i certainly has the numbers for it.

I agree with this.

Any change isn't going to be enough. If they do aim to reinvent the franchise, then do it in a radical way. A third person action game/RPG could work really well for Halo and it would be a clear and distinct break from the FPS genre it's been so widely known for.

Of course, I'd like them to eventually resume making FPS games, but I think changing genres for a considerable period of time would allow the IP to shed some baggage and almost start anew in a very significant way that could attract fans unencumbered with the obligation of having to go back and play through the previous games to understand new entries.

someone will buy the assets and will earn the revenue.

Telltale is still a small company I believe so they are still earning that money I guess.

In simple terms: in most instances when a company folds it goes into a process called liquidation in which all assets are sold to pay off as much of the remaining debt as possible. Any remaining revenue streams still coming are included in this and income goes directly to creditors in order of priority from secured creditors such as banks and other such asset based lenders down to shareholders. Customers are generally speaking unsecured creditors and fall somewhere in front of shareholders in most instances. In most instances customers never get anything because the money dries up long before that.

Yes, and also

- a stealthy action adventure game along the lines of Hunt the Truth, where you play as a journalist or a detective or just a normal person in the wrong place at the wrong time, where you uncover secret dealings of Oni or any of the many known Covenant races; doesn't have to be grand scale, destruction of universe heroic story
- something not centeted on the human race, but one or more of the many alien societies that exist in the Halo universe, perhaps even something like a comedic game about a pulpy Grunt antihero
- a Halo tycoon game where you play as a Monitor taking care of one of Halo installations
- a Halo (combat) racing game with ground and air vehicles
- a new ODST that builds upon the more unique aspects of the first game
- a survival game on a planet that's being invaded, from the perspective of a normal family
- a game where you play as insurrectionists defying the rule of UEG, maybe featuring Spartans or scientists who join their cause
- a strategy game sbout rebuilding a partially glassed planet while dealing with old and new threats

I mean, there are so many possible scenarios, and they don't even have to be set in a distant past or a distant future.

Keep saying Gears and Halo should focus also with a game more on the civilian side. Because the world is great and more then "just soldiers'

About a new Recore game...

I thought someone at MSGP said that if they would start with a lower budget game and ultimately make a bigger budget sequel. Im wondering who would eventually even work on a potential Recore sequel. I do see a Nier->Nier:Automata situation where the first game got a cult following and ultimately gains a bigger audience/appeal through the sequel.
Maybe Comcept?

If another studio makes a ReCore 2, I hope 343 can at least assist and throw that sucker onto the Slip Space engine. That's gotta be an expensive engine to make

Would we see other studios use Slip Space? Maybe third party devs kind of like how Kojima is using the Decima Engine?
Seems very unlikely. Tech debt with the engine is one of the reasons it takes so long to make Halo games, one of the reasons they are very publically communicating their investment into the engine with Slipspace. There's also the fact that the engine is designed for what Halo needs, it probably would need further tech investment to make things work for games with other types of systems (think of the initial struggles with Frostbite when EA studios outside of DICE starting using it).

There would be plenty of risks with no obvious upside for devs to switch from UE4.

I notice that he's saying they're "bringing X0 back", calling it an event and calling it a "show".

"The show is coming together."

I think many people expecting it to be another underwhelming Inside Xbox episode will be surprised. It may be branded as "Inside Xbox" but it won't be a typical Inside Xbox show.

Everything about the ways in which they've promoted X018 would suggest to me that this is a show that will be hugely significant.

I think Phil has wanted to do something similar to PSX ever since he tweeted this

And now he's been elevated to such a position where he can really make the kind of moves he needs to, I fully expect X018 and all events to be a majorly significant staple in promoting Xbox to the fans directly.

Recore showed a lot of potential, but that game needed a lot more polish and a much better UI.

Sorry. I tried to help. I actually went over to where it was being worked on to look at the UI at the request of a Director but at the time I was officially on Forza and we never got my schedule coordinated so I could help.

Not to mention I don't think leadership gets the importance of UI and UX. You all should tweet high level management and tell them to let me fix everything lol.

I was thinking same about that. This is now Xbox's brand for monthly show but they could use it for special events as well. I won't suprised if they will use Inside Xbox label with reveal new Xbox in May 2020.

You've got absolutely nothing to be sorry over. It's a shame they didn't give you the proper time and resources but you can only do so much as you're allowed to.

The game was still fun. I enjoyed it and I'd like a sequel. Hopefully the powers that be will take the importance of a good UI seriously going forward. It was distracting from how solid the game was fundamentally. I liked the verticality and platforming especially, the double jumping and dashing felt good, and the conceit of using different bots was fun. I think Recore had so many good ideas that a sequel with proper time and polish could be a huge improvement.

I'd be happy to tweet at the powers that be, but if they didn't fix it in the definitive edition, do you reckon they'll still listen now?

How many people worked on Halo 5? Also is there any explanation on why Halo 5 turned out...to be Halo 5?

I watch Late Night Gaming who's a Halo channel and read other theories including a supposed 343 ex employee who worked on Halo 5 and said they had to crap a lot of it because of the squad mechanics.

Any other insight on what happened with 343i and Halo 5 would be great.

Like seriously why did it take THIS long for MS to see the importance in gaming? The gaming industry makes a shit ton of $$$$$$.... And iirc much more than the movie and music industry. And MS is already assimilated in it. Why the HECK did they think TV was more important?

Perhaps they can start talking real shit about the development of Halo 5 close to or after Infinite releases. They obviously cut some shit and cobbled the story together. You don't have missions where you press a button to talk to two people because you think it's interesting design.
